Those overalls we're later used as the minions uniform.
Connery did look well in it, and Bernie Casey was a fantastic Leiter, but ( Only my opinion) but it
Looks very cheap, with no sense of tension in any sequence. I remember from Interviews at the

And I'm happy to see this thread is stirring up some conversation every month about the latest episode
I have a feeling most Bond fans would! To me, they're very close and are easily the two weakest Connery Bond films. As I expressed in Episode 7, i'm just not much of a fan of DAF, I think the Blofeld clones and him being in drag is just ridiculous. Also the lazy special effects when the satelite fire, the elephant with the slot machine and, well you get the idea (I mentioned most of this in the video anyway..) NSNA wasn't much better, but at least a bit more on the serious side than Diamonds. And I liked Connery's performance better in it too!
Also, I did get a comment from a fan defending Klaus Maria Brandauer's Largo, in saying that he's better than the original one.
He brought up some fair points which did make me reconsider him a little bit. To me, this version of Largo is okay but a bit off, he doesn't do much really menacing stuff untill the very end of the film. As I expressed in the review "The most menacing he has done so far is play video games." Though admittedly there was the "I will cut your throat" line, which may have been worth a mention in my review too!
How do you guys feel about his Largo? And which Largo do you prefer?

Celi's Largo is far better than Brandauer's. Brandauer just seems like a child and has no class. His immaturity doesn't allow me to take him seriously, and Bond should have just called his daddy and had him sent to his room! Celi has much more screen presence and is someone I'd take more seriously.
Brandauer is a brilliant actor, infact the cast of NSNA is amazing, but like Brandauer they're
Wasted. I too prefer the original Largo, he looks like an Italian Playboy and IMHO very close
To Fleming's description.
Largo in NSNA seems a weak villain, a spoilt brat even, more in the vein of Dominic Greene.
I never in any scene felt any threat or menace from him.
Sorry if I'm full of woe but I really find NSNA a really weak film, apart from the viewing in
The cinema, I've never watched it all the way through again ( except to listen to the Bluray
Commentaries ) .

I've been enjoying your Recapping 007 videos very much, Dutchfinger.
As for Never Say Never Again, I've never liked the film. I struggle to rewatch it, and in fact I've only made it through the entire film twice. There are scenes that aren't too bad, but taken as a whole it is just dull, and very poor considering the resources that were at their disposal in terms of director, actors, story etc.

Pretty much fully agree with you on this! But I guess I did manage to watch NSNA all the way through a bit more often. But I can't deny I always get really bored when the movie gets to the North Africa part...

Yes you're right. It's almost ironic it turned out the way it did when Connery and McClory were so determined to bring it back to a more realistic approach in the spirit of From Russia with Love, yet they come up with Bond throwing his piss on a henchman and shadowing a girl by hiding behind a tree which was in plain sight for her and stuff like that...

Have you ever heard of the Emancipation Proclamation?"
I enjoyed the bit where All Time High was superimposed over some of the Octopussy pre-title action. Just goes to show what a dumb idea the intro of NSNA is - ie mixing PTS and main titles.

Indeed! Also, I just came across a video I remember seeing years ago. It's an extremely well edited video in which the PTS of NSNA is edited to an official Bond film! (Gunbarrel and title sequence with "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" included. )
This one was long overdue! It have been insanely busy times in my private life. I've got a new internship, a new sidejob, my bachelor course, got my own place and had to put lots of work into that (painting, floorwork, furnishing etc). It have been hectic times!
I received a ton of messages from fans awaiting the next episode, so I scrapped together my freetime and now it's finally up and running!

I did not know Barbara Bach was actually approached for this! I did always find it to be so appropriate for her though, shame she didn't want to do it! I was aware of that jump cut too, didn't bother to point it out in the review though, but good point it's pretty awkward!
I always did love Moore's comment there, he makes his Bond so self aware of the absurdity of situations sometimes )

As a sidenote, for a while now each Recapping episode now has it's respective Poll question that fans can cast their votes on. You can find them by simply going to an episode and clicking on the "i" in the top right corner of the video. In the case of this latest episode you can vote on whether or not you think Moore was to old to do this film. (So far, the majority of fans voted that he was to old)
(P.S And good to hear you enjoyed again Barbel! - hope the Dalton ones coming up will please you too! -{ )
I am a big fan of Sir Roger, and can understand that because Octopussy beat NSNA at the
Box office, I believe this was Roger's reward from Cubby for beating Connery's effort, so that
Moore would hold the record for the longest serving 007 with seven consecutive movies.
Although he was a little older, if they had have used a few more "age appropriate" actresses
It wouldn't have been so much of an issue.

There's a very valid point in that! I had never considered that AVTAK was a reward for beating NSNA!
Great stuff Dutchfinger! I used to rank A View to a Kill in the bottom 2 in the series, however over the last few years I've come to like it quite a bit despite its faults, and whilst I still have it in the bottom 5 or 6, it's definitely not the worst and there is plenty to enjoy. Sadly, AVTAK will likely always be my dead-last Bond...one of them has to be there , and I shudder to think what will have to be excreted by Eon for me to move it up Just my opinion.

I too am looking forward to the Dalton era; I actually like the two films but Dalton is my least favourite Bond - especially in LTK.

Thanks! I figured I give it some attention as it seems it's quite a 'trending topic' these days. I don't believe in the stuff myself either, but it's astonishing to see how people are backing this up and how deep it all goes! The comments I've been getting on it also show how much people are convinced that Dolly did have braces in their memories.

I'm incredibly happy and grateful that my videos are getting more and more popular these days. This week it reached a special highlight, as I received a gift from a YouTube viewer. This viewer happened to be an author of Children's books by the name of "Peter Millett". He's the author of a the series "Johnny Danger", a James Bond spoof meant for kids and inspired by the Roger Moore era Bond films. He contacted me personally because he enjoys watching my Recapping episodes and he insisted on sending me a free copy of one of his books. I was extremely honoured and initially felt I couldn't accept such an offer. But he insisted, and thus he sent me his book, signed and well all the way from New Zealand:
Just a little update!
I have started a new support system on my channel, via Patreon. With that, nothing really changes for all the regular viewers, as I thought it would be unfair to give them less than they normally got. But I am now giving people some premium expierences and rewards. (Like early access to the latest episodes, comic book pages, skype calls etc.)
The whole situation and concept is explained here for those who care to see it. Oh, and this video also includes a behind the scenes montage to showcase how a Recapping episode is made, as lots of people seemed intrested in that!
Just watched your recap of TLD. Great work once again. Totally agree with you that the soundtrack is excellent.
LTK for mine is the better of the two Dalton Bond films and I'm looking forward to your next recap. I was never a Dalton fan but objectively the films were OK. A couple of moments in LTK I'm sure you will pick up on where Bond is uncool and unBond like

Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed! I'm looking forward to LTK myself, you may know that it's my favorite Bond movie, so i'm hoping to do that episode justice! I have added the TLD to the OP for everyone to enjoy!
TLD review was a great watch, found myself agreeing with much of what you said. I get the feeling that the Afghanistan addition to the film was to try and increase the relevancy at that point (late 80s middle easy f-ups) - but you're right, it loses energy and in some respects the Opium addition to the plot almost tips it into confusing, unnecessary territory.
Thanks for posting LTK just in time for Christmas - a nice little present for myself and those who enjoy your take on the 007 films.
Once again an excellent summation of another Bond film. This is one of the films that I've grown to like and appreciate having watched it a few times. I'm still not a Dalton fan but objectively I enjoy the film and the plot. I think you are right in the sense that this film is more darker than the cartoonish Moore films and is more attuned to the Fleming novels which I like.
I also like the fact the Hildebrand Rarity (one of my favourite Fleming short stories) was integrated in to the film.
Thanks again for your recaps and your unique sense of humour - always entertaining.
I wish you all the very best for Christmas and a happy and safe 2017. {[]
