I have a much larger problem with the shooting of the chopper than the fact that it is a difficult (impossible) thing to do with a PPK from that distance.
The chopper is flying above the Thames River, Bond is shooting at it from a boat.... TAKE A LEFT (or a right), whatever you do, stop flying above the only place you can be shot from.
And this is not something small I noticed after 750 repeated viewings, this stood out to me during opening night. Now of course Blofeld is a highly intelligent super criminal mastermind so I guess this has nothing to do with lazy screenwriting but was totally intended by him..... but still.

I'm not sure Blofeld or his pilot were aware that they were being chased? As far as I could tell, they assumed Bond had died in the demotion of the building.
But according to Blofeld he has already killed Tracy, why the need for a second woman killed?
Keep in mind that the Daniel Craig Bond movies are a reboot of the series. This new Blofeld never killed a Tracy. Everything from CR onwards was the start of a new universe.
So is this Blofeld the same as the ones that appeared in earlier films, or was that character his brother/son etc?
If he is the same character they can't kill him until after DAF surely.

Some would say Bond kills him in FYEO.
These reboots are confusing.
The reboot is simple really. Everything prior to the Craig movies (in terms of storyline) is erased. The only thing really excisting in both universe's was a female M played by Dame Judi Dench. So no, this is a different Blofeld. A different Bond.
Of course the franchise constantly nods at it's past (hence why we even have a Blofeld again.) But it's just a new start from CR onwards
to talk about the ending again...I don't think Bond is 'in love' again, I just see this as a classier version of the 'Bond goes off with the girl at the end', just better than 'attempting re-entry' on a space shuttle.
Not sure Swann even needs to have a mention in the next film, Bond can't settle into another life and the two don't have to stay together. Blofeld can properly escape for 25 and Craig can come back for one last ripping yarn! I think to draw a veil over the Swann relationship would be easy.

The whole point is that Bond chooses the girl over his job, that's him - finished !

Exactly. I think I've read this somewhere else but still wasn't a 100% sure myself. Did the movie actually do the 'James Bond will return teaser' at the credits? I've still only seen it once.

Or maybe not...there's nothing explicit.

Oh no...it's all there...it's subtext...she tells Bond she can't live his life anymore...so you have M at one end of the bridge and Madeleine at the other - Bond has to chose between his job or the girl...he picks the girl...it's rather obvious -{

Also there's the briefly exchange with Q who is surprised to see him. And Bond confirms he's gone, and just there for one more thing...the DB5

Bond literally threw his gun away!
Also at the very end, there's the brief exchange with Q who is surprised to see Bond. And Bond confirms he's gone, and just there for one more thing...the DB5
Yep. It's certainly all there that he's given up. Including throwing his gun away on Westminster Bridge.
It was only on my second viewing that it struck me more in the final scene with Q that he had actually left! On first viewing (and I'm sure it can be taken both ways), I felt he had just gone for a break after the mission.
They've left it open. Hopefully DC will return for Bond 25 which could start with him being on holiday with Miss Swann and either being called back into service for some reason (to recapture Blofeld) or as per OHMSS, Blofeld catches up with them following his escape from Her Majesty's Pleasure (albeit in a different Bond universe from OHMSS now).
However, after seeing DC's Bond drive off into the (proverbial sunset) with his girl, I'm not sure I could stand another film with him in revenge mode and completely angst ridden..
I'm sure whatever they do and whichever direction they take, it'll be great and I really hope DC does one more.
When Bond was putting his gun to Blofeld's head at the end, I was reminded of M's quote from when he was talking with C earlier in the film, something to the affect of "My agents have the license to kill, or to not kill."

I also was thinking of Judi Dench's M lecturing Bond not to kill everyone. She was so annoying about that in QOS.

I expect that Craig will be back, but without Swann, and unattached to a woman. In the novels, Bond was always with a woman at the end...but single again when the next adventure commenced. In the FRWL novel, which follows after DAF, we learn that Bond considered marrying Tiffany Case, but it simply didn't work out. This happens quite often in real life as well, of course...so there's no reason that Bond and Madeline might not have their time together, and then simply drift apart. This can be handled in #25 with two lines of dialogue; there's no need for Bond to be married to his female lead in SPECTRE---either literally or figuratively.
I'd much rather have Bond return to MI6 to deal with Blofeld out of a sense of duty, instead of revenge. That well has run dry for the foreseeable future, IMO.

I hope he is back for one more... the ending leaves it open..I wonder if Swann is in the next one or he is just called out of retirement.. The ending was nice to see him walk off with Swann & change his life for the short period... Cool to see Swann really fall for JB towards the end of the movie

Yeah I'm positive that's what the filmmakers were after precisely. You can even see M's sense of approval at his choice.
I think it also shows Bond is not an assassin. He's an intelligence officer and only
kills when needed or under orders ( which he will disobey ay times). Also in Movie
hero code. He can't kill an injured man. ( That's not cricket )

I think you're right with so many of these, Loeff. Also, the ending is essentially the ending of the last Batman film -- and now they can just contrive a plot for Bond to return to the secret service.
Surely any film where the hero heads off with the leading lady is a happy
ending not just batman. Is the end of TND an homage to Titanic.
Yes, but the Craig films have all paralleled the Batman ones, to the degree that Roger Ebert called Casino Royale "Bond Begins." And he's right. But the idea of being out from under the role that defines him -- Bruce Wayne as Batman; James Bond as 007 -- is the same ending reworked slightly. I'd be saying the same thing about the Batman movie in reverse if Bond had done it first. Is the cable car and clinic in Spectre not an homage to OHMSS because the car is black and the clinic is not round?

That's when it stopped being a major building, and became a captain building instead...? ;%
