I'm sleeping over by Japanese people tonight

So i'm studying to become a teacher at primary schools. Today we have an exchange project with a Japanese school in Amsterdam. All the children and teachers will sleep over in a different Japanese family. My friend (who is also studying to become a teacher) is sleeping with the family Fukushima (no joke

) )

This is my expectation for tonight:

Make sure that you take off your shoes before you enter the appartment.

And there is a seperate pair of slippers for the toilet only. Don't get caught walking thru the room with them still on because you forgot to change them to regular house slippers after the toilet.

And let us know if it had a heated toilet seat

And try to eat everything that they offer you - no matter what.

Thanks for these tips Higgens', they were pretty spot on. I don't think the toilet seat was heated, but the whole house was very warm. (The kept the heating on very high during the night, which is defenitely a huge difference.)

I"ve got to say, these two days have really been impressive. Both in seeing differences in Japanese educational system and the Dutch one, but also the major cultural differences. There's just so much I need to take in (I just came back) and process.

I honestly have to say we "westerns" can learn a lot from the Japanese, defenitely among the most hospitable, kindhearted, disciplined well mannered people in the world! -{

I've been to Japan quite often in my youth and learnt it the hard way

I will never forget the snail- mussels that I had to eat. After getting one of those bitter bastards down, I had the honor that the host offered me another one

I've only had snails once and rather enjoyed them. Love mussels too. Are sail-mussels a popular delicacy then Higgins? Will definitely give them a go next year!

As far as I know, they are a delicacy in Japan and quite expensive.
Problem is that they taste bitter and are relatively chewy.
No problems with normal seafood or mussels here, but those where definitely a challenge B-)

I had a relatevely normal Japanese breakfast today. Rice, Japanese soup with seaweed. And lots of green (carrots, brocolli etc.)
