    I'm from Northern Ireland too, and as TP and sniperUK have said I would consider myself British. There is a Unionist-supporting majority in Northern Ireland still to this day (by the consent of the NI population) and let us not forget that. -{

    I thought no-one from N. Ireland was British. It's the United Kingdom of Great Britain AND Northern Ireland...

    Great Britain is only one of the British Isles. Others include the Isle of Man and Jersey, though there are many, many more tiny islands. Some consider Ireland to be one of the British Isles and some do not. I did not originally include Northern Ireland because it is controversial whether or not people there are British and I don't want to offend anyone here from Northern Ireland who isn't British.

    Saying that you are offending me, I am Northern Irish born and bred, I am a BRITISH citizen not Irish , our currency is Stirling not Euro, the national flag is the Union flag, the red diagonal cross on it is the Cross of St Patrick, I have a British Passport and Driving licence, I am part of the BRITISH armed forces, I was part of a BRITISH police force for 26 years, my medals have the Queens head on all five, I have no connections at all to the RoI apart from friendships .

    Apologies, as I'm sure you will accept that no offence was intended. Please clarify which part was incorrect so we don't make the same mistake again. We certainly don't want to start the Troubles here again!

    I've found that the Good Friday Agreement guarantees the "recognition of the birthright of all the people of Northern Ireland to identify themselves and be accepted as Irish or British, or both, as they may so choose."

    We should also not confuse some things unnecessarily: Australian money has the Queen's head on them, and our flag includes the Union Jack, yet it does not make us British.

    My understanding is that Northern Ireland has its own, separate police service, but not defence.

    We are entering a very complex area of identities - ethnic, national, political etc., so let's accept that what we discuss is about exchanging information rather than trying to offend.

    May I ask what you consider to be your ethnic identity? There is no British ethnicity, as far as I know...

    So it is OK to offend those who do consider themselves British ?

    I said above: Any more of this should be by PMs, please.

    I'm now saying: No more of this unless by PM. I hope that is clear.
