If you buy them online they are an extra 60% off today, not sure if it is today only or not, but they are about $30 USD.

Guys! Get the Banana Republic option for the Winch2. I just went to a BR store and bought them. Will post a pic when I get home, but the color looks like a great match (more grey in person) and they do have the button tab at the waist. Really happy I got them.

Oh, that's even better! I got them in-store at 70% off, so they came to $24.00. Here's a quick and dirty pic I took in the local BR

    BR-Traveller-Cords-scaled.jpg

The fit is pretty TTS (I'm a 32 waist and took a 32). They call them a slim fit, but for me there's still a comfortable amount of room in the top block and thighs. Nice taper below the knee. And the details match up pretty well.

    BR-Traveller-Cords-front-scaled.jpg

Online the color (to me on my monitors) looked like a light taupe a touch of a grey tone. But IRL (again to me) they look more grey with a slight brown undertone. Very nice color. And the fabric is super soft as well!

If you can grab a pair for $30, I'd strongly recommend getting them!

FYI, the jacket I used for the store flatlay was this one:

    https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=665475002&pcid=999&vid=1&#pdp-page-content

    cn19887139.jpg

It's like a shorter, bomber style button front chore coat. The fabric is a little more techy/shiny than the linen Connolly. But it could work as an alternative for the Matera jacket. Especially if you only wanted one jacket for the Cuba look and the Matera look.

    Cheers!

Looks like another great option that's sadly unavailable for us Brits! It'd be nice for a storefront to have parity, as we do have Banana Republic in the UK but evidently with a different selection of items.

Sorry to hear that. I try to include links to UK sites whenever possible. But since I moved to the U.S. some retailers won't let me access their UK sites. For example, Charles Tyrwhitt only lets me see the U.S. site even when I manually change the URL. I didn't really have that problem before. Mango and M&S are challenging for different reasons: product that is in stock on the UK site will be sold out on the U.S. site or vice versa. And Amazon UK doesn't even carry some products from their own house labels!

Oh no, I appreciate that John. It's not your fault that stores often have different products for different territories. I actually can access the US Banana Republic website to see precisely the trousers you're referring to, but unfortunately they don't allow you to ship to a non-US address.

No problem, I didn't take your comment personally at all. I was just commiserating with you about how frustrating international retail can be. {[]

Spring/Summer. Not heavyweight at all. But they don't feel flimsy, if that makes sense.

Yes it does. I live in Arizona and it can get hot as hell here so just wanted to make sure it might be worth it. Thanks!

I appreciate this is a big ask but I've figured out a way of purchasing the Banana Republic alternative and getting it shipped to the UK, however I need to enter a US telephone number, otherwise it won't let me proceed with the order. Would anyone be generous enough to let me use there's over DMs?

Good to see you back John, and on a shiny new AJB too. Im in agreement about the duster ! Not my thing at all, a military inspired overshirt would work better in my opinion and they seem to be right on trend at the mo too, despite the fact nttd is so old now most of the outfits will be retro chic by the time it gets released !

It was either that.....or the priesthood
  • canoe2canoe2 Posts: 2,007MI6 Agent

Hi Chris! Been too long, my friend! I agree, a military overshirt would be pretty cool as well.

New post: a look at some DC pieces for spring inspiration

For this post I wanted to look at some of the less common jackets, sweaters and shoes that I haven't really covered before. So there's some stuff from the last two years, a couple of things I haven't really updated in a long time and a few other odds and ends.

Oh, that's cool! Post a link and you get a destination preview. Very nice feature!

@SiCo and @Barbel Congratulations on the upgrades, looks great so far! There'll be a bit of a learning curve obviously, but I really like what I'm seeing so far. I also like that we can @ other members now. Very convenient and will help prevent nested quoting when we're replying to each other. If I come across anything weird or wonky, I'll let you know. If you want I'd be happy to promote the new AJB007 on my social channels whenever you feel that the upgrades are completed. Let me know in a DM

    Cheers!

    John

Hi John, thanks for the namecheck but it's all SiCo's work!

I'll join the line for wishing Daniel Craig a very Happy Birthday!

And we have a new post: the Best Budget Style finds for this week

As you can see from the preview, I'm already starting to look at spring stuff. So there's some alternatives for Thunderball shirts, SPECTRE polos, and some NTTD pieces. I also think I've found a decent option for the CR Jack Purcell OTRs. But you guys tell me if you think they'd work.

    Cheers!

    John

Hi, just found this, it's like the View to a Kill towelling jacket but sadly no white piping but it's only £40. The call it a zip-through-polo. I've just received mine and I really like it. They are a new UK company https://arneclo.com/collections/all/products/towelling-zip-through-polo-in-navy

  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,948MI6 Agent

Marvellous, thank you! If you find any other alternatives to the pink thunderball shirt (ideally available in the UK) do pass them on :)

  • canoe2canoe2 Posts: 2,007MI6 Agent

@Thomo that's great! I'll including it an upcoming post with credit to you for the find.

@emtiem the big post on Bond's summer shirts is coming in April. But if I come across any options before that I'll share them here first.

  • ThomoThomo ReadingPosts: 964MI6 Agent

    @canoe2 - very kind thanks

  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,948MI6 Agent

Is there an easy way to see a list of these latest articles on the site?

  • canoe2canoe2 Posts: 2,007MI6 Agent

@emtiem At the top of the main page I normally post the latest post (the big image) and next to that the 4 most recent articles.

Below that there is a section called "Fresh Updates" that are older posts I've added new alternatives to.

    Hope that makes sense!

  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,948MI6 Agent

Ah okay. I was just looking for these monthly 'best budget' articles you've been doing but could only find the latest one. Maybe if it's a series you could have a page for them?

  • canoe2canoe2 Posts: 2,007MI6 Agent

@emtiem Done! I've added "Sales and Deals" to the "Lifestyle" drop down on the main top menu. Click on that and it will show you the current and all the past Budget posts.

Post update for today: new alternatives for the Craig's Belstaff Bag

Tomorrow I'll be publishing updates for his Cucinelli navy sweater jacket blazer thing (since he always seems to be wearing the that at the same time he's carrying the Belstaff bag!). And that will probably be my last dedicated post on winter pieces. Time to start thinking seriously about spring!

    Cheers everyone!

    John

If you go onto the T M Lewin UK website in the sale there are two budget alternative ties:

Slim Burgundy & Navy Spot - good budget alternative for the NTTD Matara tie

Slim Navy Jacquard Crosshatch Silk tie - not a bad budget alternative for the SF granborough tie

    Sorry no photos.

Both are down to £10 in the sale

@Bodie and @Chriscoop those are great suggestions! I'll try and get them into the next Budget Finds post if there are still any left!

    edited March 2021

Right, now before the purists pass criticism on this suggestion, hear me out. I think I've ordered what I feel is currently the best budget alternative to the NTTD Massimo duster.

It's a Jack Jones trenchcoat currently retailing at £110.

    https://www.jackjones.com/gb/en/jj/clothing/jackets/coats/single-breasted-trenchcoat-5715093489766.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAyoeCBhCTARIsAOfpKxhp3uCv1rGZviJPCf9vbUU5UlpZoUgOCsuksWsEpWCgthJ9KqdE_MoaAvLLEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

    Pros:

    1. Style and Aesthetic match for the duster

    2. Colour match

    3. Single breasted

    4. Made of 100% polyester - which is water resistant (beneficial compared to cord cotton)

    Cons:

    1. Polyester and not cotton or corduroy

    2. Notch lapel and not peak
