cmdr_bong: I actually included this one as an option in the Barbour alternatives post. Would it be okay if I included your feedback from here in the post? I'd also love to see some pics of it out in the real world!

Good lord... AS. I never had you down as a knicker fiddler!
Speaking of James Brosnan, he has a new post up on the site! Today being Summer Solstice, it seems like a good time to look for alternatives for the DAD white linen shirt:
Side note: Banana Republic is currently running an extra 40% off sale, and the linen shirt and blue linen pants mentioned in this post are both included!
Next linen mix shirt, tom ford glasses, linea7 flip flops (just can't bring myself to wear sandals ... Tho James Brosnan rocks His) omega po with zuludiver connery bond strap.
armenianmovieman: I seriously owe you a post on ties! I also added these JP OTR alternatives from Paladium to the site a while ago:
ScotchNowPlease: I'll add that Bonobos option to the post with credit to you. Thanks!
I finally got around to finishing my Enjoying Death shirt dyeing experiment. This is the Truth, Substance and Common Sense option (with a different pattern)
Here's the before:
And some shots of the after; the jacket is one I thrifted from ebay ($89.99), the pants are Lands' End and the boots are Clarks:
Comparison shots
In the original pic I was wearing a medium, but it was coming close to being a little too tight. I went with the large because I knew I was going to have to dye in hot water, which would probably shrink the cotton shirt. I think now that if I give it another "shrinking" wash and I get the hem shortened by 1" to 1.5", it should look pretty good. The blue is a little washed out in the pics, but IRL it has more pop. Anyway, for $18 for the shirt, $2.99 for a pack of dye, and an hour of manual labor, I think I can live with the results.
I myself already bought the next linen trousers in chalk and couldn't find a butchers stripe shirt I like so put together this SC tb inspired summer outfit
Next linen mix shirt, tom ford glasses, linea7 flip flops (just can't bring myself to wear sandals ... Tho James Brosnan rocks His) omega po with zuludiver connery bond strap.
Fantastic finds for that outfit man! I'm loving the TF's, very Connery style. I finally got my version of the TB outfit put together just last week. I found a no longer sold JCrew stripped shirt (got it hemmed straight and with side vents), using my Jerusalem sandals that I posted about for the YOLT pink shirt and grey pants (thanks for the compliment by the way), and I grabbed these Banana Republic linen-cotton cream pants:
I got my tailor to put the outer side vents on the pants too. I can't recommend the BR cream pants enough; they are spot on. Here is a pic of me wearing the outfit last weekend, acting like an idot:

Acting like an idiot... But looking sharp. That outfit looks pretty damn sa the whole outfit is spot on {[]
Thanks for the positive feedback! That look has been about 2 years in the making, so I'm glad I can check it off the list.
armenianmovieman: why don't you try writing a post for the site about the Skyfall training outfit? I'd be happy to post it. Just something to think about since you've managed to find a lot a good alternatives already.

That jacket is great, I've been after one similar for a long time (with the zipper on the front), may I ask what you searched for to find it?

Sure! It took me a while to find it and I needed to get some modifications done to it (lining changed and sleeves narrowed). It's a vintage Oakwood in Buffalo Leather, so it's thicker than the original Menlo. I paid $70 + $10 shipping on ebay. I set up a search with the following criteria:
Category -> Fashion -> Men -> Coats and Jackets
and then I entered the search term "distressed leather jacket"; you'll get about 5000 results, so you need to use the filters on the left column to narrow it down (click on the "see all" text to display the search filter lightbox; it's easier to use). I used these filters:
Size: small, medium, large (some of the older jackets fit BIG, so before you buy one contact the seller for the exact measurements; the tagged size doesn't help much)
Style: Basic jacket, Flight/Bomber, Motorcycle, Not Specified
Color: Brown, Not Specified
Material: Leather
Brand: You'll have hundreds to choose from, so I just left this blank
Condition: I selected "used", but if you want to see "new" jackets, just leave this blank
Price: $0.01 to $200 (I always start at $0.01 because some listings start with low initial bid amounts, like $1.00)
The rest of the search filters (location, format, delivery options) I just left blank. Then you click "Apply" and the results are displayed. I also like things to be displayed from highest price to lowest, so I select the "Price + shipping: highest first" option from the "Sort" drop down. Then I click the "Follow this search" text to save the search. Then start looking through the results.
Some other tips:
-Oakwood, Wilson, Andrew Marc, M Julian, Eddy Bauer are all brands with decent leather, but the older jackets are sized very big and boxy, so think about sizing down (but again: ask the seller for the specific measurements to be sure). You can also check out Gap and JCrew jackets. But honestly, you'll never know what brand the right jacket will come from.
-When you are on the product page for a specific jacket, make sure you scroll through the "People who viewed this item also viewed", "People were also interested in" and "See what other people are watching" pics. Sometimes you'll find options in those sections that didn't show up in your original search.
-The key things you're looking for in the jacket design are the shirt collar, the action back and the waist adjuster tabs. It will probably take some patience to find a jacket that has all 3 in your size.
-Don't be afraid if the jacket looks a little beaten up in the pics. As long as there are no tears in the leather, there is a lot you can do to bring an older jacket back to life. That's what I did with mine, and someone recently offered me $300 for it.
Here's one from GAP that may work (sorry, don't know your size). Priced at $144.99:
I still keep my original search active, and I try to regularly update the Menlo post on the website with the best options I found on ebay (I last did an update about a month ago so some of the listings may be out of date):

On a separate note AS if you want some blue CR shorts these are on eBay.

Unless I'm mistaken, M&S's slightly more modest version of the classic banana hammock doesn't have pockets ...

Skyfall training pants alternative? (Off topic but I remember the consensus being there were pairs from Adidas and pairs from Puma....)
Pair of blue Adidas pants with contrast stitching.
There's an interesting design on the back pocket, and no pockets are zipped. Neither are the ankles.
But this gets pretty close, no?
