My pleasure, glad to help. When I am searching around for a specific item, I try and keep track of likely candidates I come across for other things. I saw a bunch of black V necks when I was looking for the teal N.Peal Skyfall sweater a while back and had the links saved. Same with the Acne trousers: when I was looking for the Neil Barrett poster trousers, I saw some others that would work for the Acnes, so it was easier to put that list together relatively quickly.
So, with Dan's Royale Filmware Solden jacket on the way, I've been trying to put together frugal alternatives for the rest of the outfit. For the boots, I was just going to use my Aldo alternatives to the Islay because my budget is running thin but, I would love to see some alternatives if anyone has found any. For the pants, I was going to go with black joggers to get an approximate look. The problem with joggers is that they are almost all drawstring. I did find one pair of Uniqlo joggers that has a botton front:
For the mock neck, there are the options from Lands End and LLBean, but none of the colors really match up. Here are the options I found that are closest in color (Cabellas is "Night" and D&J is navy)
All of these options will likely fit big and will need to be tailored, but they are pretty cheap to begin with, so it shouldn't be too expensive in the end. I'm probably going to go with the Woolrich even though it has side vents because I like the color and it looks like the nicest of the bunch. I will always be tucking it in for a SA for, so the side vents don't bother me. Fell in love with this outfit watching Spectre over and over on ITunes. Would love to know if anyone else has found anything. -{
You still don't have the pleats or stirrups (although those are pretty easy to attach), but you do get the covered pockets. On sale now for £25.00 with a good selection of sizes.
Judging by the pictures on the website, sizing up may be required to get the same look as he TFs...
These trousers are made of wool, very soft and hang really well, but canoe2 is right. You do need to Size up I'm normally a 34 inch waist and bought the 38's sounds extreme but they are slim fit and the waists run small which is unusual for French connection, original price was £120 so a quality item really.

Just FYI all: The Florsheim Kilbourn alternative for the C&J Islay is on sale for $89.90 with a full run of sizes. I've seen these in person and they're a pretty nice boot, especially for less than $90.00

A lot of the suggestions on the list on the site were based on color matches with the website images which, as we all know, may not present the actual real world color of the fabric. When I saw the Dark Pebble Dockers in-store I also thought they looked a little too dark, but left them on the list because of the comparison James Brosnan did with the pic of Welshboy's actual BC trousers. I also think the "right" pant color depends on the color of the BC jacket alternative you choose so that the contrast between the two is close to what we see in the film.
Any chance you could share your feedback in the comments section of that post on the site? Like you said, your experience could save people some time and money!

Great finds. The Khols option looks intersting, but I'm unfamiliar with how heavy/warm rayon and nylon wear. I did get the Topman Matchless alternative back, and I'm pretty pleased with the results. I also got the Uniqlo linen shirt back from the tailor and I will do a review of both soon, hopefully )
Size 30/32. You can't really tell the color from the images, but they are the Dark Slate (tag says "DSL"). The seller told me they have a leg opening of 7.5 inches, so tailoring might be a consideration if you're looking for them to be as skinny as Bond's were in the film.

I think it's safe to say the Croft and Barrow option is not going to be the best quality out there; but then again it is only $18.00 and how often are you really going to wear it? A lot is going to depend on the %s in the blend (which are not listed): more cotton is better; more nylon/rayon tends to mean less breathability, so a hotter sweater that's less comfortable to wear.
Has anyone found any good alternatives to the Skyfall John Smedley Bobby Sweater he wears under the peacoat?

I purchased the Banana Republic sweater and it was really nice. I then went over to Jos. A Banks and they had their sweaters on sale and had a black v-neck merino wool sweater for $39.00. I tried it on and it fit and felt very similar to the BR. So I am taking the BR back and sticking with the Jos. A Banks Traveler sweater. If anyone is searching for a good alternative to the John Smedley Bobby, this should fit nicely.
I did a search on ebay and found a J.Crew Ludlow Chesterfield Coat in Navy. I made an offer for less than asking and it was accepted. I received the coat a few days ago and it is absolutely stunning in person. It also has a great tailored fit that isn't too bulky, yet would still allow for a suit coat underneath. I think it is a great alternative to the TF Crombie and wanted to put that out there if anyone was interested.

Yeah, I need to set up an "about us" page on the site with a contact form. Honestly, this started as a small side project for me, but it's growing more than I thought it would in 2 months. I am very happy that people are finding it a useful resource; I just need to find the smartest way to manage it.
I will again echo the gratitude of others here to you canoe.. This site has proven to be outstanding for me to track some things down.. I have been able to get a handful of really nice quality items at reasonable prices.. I picked up the Jack Threads cardigan.. just dropped it off at a local tailor to replace the buttons with more SA leather wrapped buttons.. But the sweater felt nice and fit well.. I can also advise that those RJ Colt shoes are not bad at all.. I picked some up a few months back.. they are a fairly regular go to shoe for running around town when I am off.. comfy.. and look good.
I too have the Jack Threads cardigan. Fits well, but I find the material a bit itchy. I may return it. I'll decide this weekend. Dockers hasn't mailed out my chinos, so I may just cancel the order and stick with the Gap Chinos. While a gray instead of taupe, I really like them.
Ok, so, sorry it took so long for me to post my review of my alterations to the Topman Matchless alternative, I've been crazy busy at work and with my new little guy, but I fiinally got the chance to take some pics. I also apologize for this post being so long and pic heavy. First, I got the Uniqlo alternative to the OB linen shirt tailored, and here are he results:
I'm very happy with the outcome. If you don't mind the pocket, I can't recommend these linen shirts enough. They are normally a regular fit though, so sizing down or tailoring might be needed if you want a slim fit. I will probably try and find some sky blue buttons and replace them myself to compete the SA look.
Well, I posted about how I got the collar cut, but here are the details again. Here are the pics of the inside and back collar of the Topman Matchless alternative:
You can see from the second picture that the collar is basically divided into 2 halves (even though the bottom half does not span the entire length of the collar). You can also see that the top half is thicker than the bottom half. So, what I did is get the tailor to make the top half the same thickness as the bottom half. I measured the maximum thickness of the bottom half and got 1-1/4". So, I measured 1-1/4" from the intersection of the bottom and top halves and the tailor is taking off the remaining material on the top half. It wasn't much material taken off. And, of course, I had the tailor remove some material from the points of the collar, with the amount decided by clipping and seeing the fit until I got what I wanted.
The reason I made the bottom and top halves equal was because, looking at pictures of the Matchless jacket, it seemed like the collar was split into two approximately equal halves. Of course, that alone might not have worked with Topman jacket, but it turned out to be the best length on me, so it made things easier.

I'm happy with the results. Its no perfect though. I think, to improve it, adding the metal inside the collar would improve the way the collar sits and make it almost perfect. The jacket itself is very lightweight and can be used in 60F to 75F weather; anything less or more gets too hot or too cold, for me at least. The quality of the jacket for the price is fantastic, you really get what you pay for. My only issue with the jacket is the pocket and the style. The style is different than the Matchless jacket, it's less rugged. But, I roughed up the jacket a little bit, on purpose, and that made a big difference. Overall, it's a really good jacket and fits the bill quite well, and it being leightweight allows me to wear it often in Florida, so it was a great buy for me. Hope this might help anyone contemplating this jacket or altering it.

James Brosnan: The jacket turned out great! I agree that getting the collar right can be a chore. Honestly, my gut feeling is that the collar of the jacket used in the film actually was actually a little shorter at the front than the retail model they're selling now (aside from missing the hooks). As you say, I am sure the wire helps with the shape. Do you mind if I use your post and pics here for a "Suede Jacket Mods" article on the site?
