We have discussed Bond, BVs, Henchmen, etc. And now, let's look at the BGs - which are the 5 BGs that you have found to be amazing? It could be acting, character, visual impact, etc.

The 5 in the order of their film release:

* Domino (TB) - One of the things that I like about her is that she is honest. She was somehow got in to a relationship with Largo but takes a stock of the situation and is honest about it with Bond

* Solitaire (LALD) - A character that is at the mercy of the villain. Bond, by hook or crook, gets her out

* Goodnight (TMWTGG) - An annoying character at times. But the dumb blonde is played perfectly. She is one of the reasons why TMWTGG is hilarious

* Agent XXX (TSWLM) - The name says it all

* Magda (OP) - She works with the villains and has a bag of tricks up her sleeves but seems to have a good heart too which is seen when she discovers that Bond escapes but decides to keep quiet

This is a tough topic, as I've changed my mind on it and might probably continue to do so.

Having said that, I'll do a Top 5 here. I'll generally focus on the BGs that are allies of Bond:

    1) Wei Lin: Some love her, some hate her. I love her, and I'm not apologizing for it.

    2) Camille: I'm not entirely sure about placing her this high, but she has something about her that I quite like.

    3) Pam Bouvier: As with Camille, I'm not entirely sure about her placement, but I have to admit that Carey Lowell had the unique ability to look both very tough and very sexy.

    4) Tracy: Played by the highly talented Diana Rigg. You can easily understand why Bond falls for her, this woman combines toughness, charm, and an air of cleverness. Who wouldn't fall for this sort of woman? (okay, she had money issues, but many people have them.)

    5) Holly Goodhead: Attractive, yet badass CIA agent. Yeah, Chiles wasn't the best actress, but who cares? Could you honestly picture Meryl Streep in this role? Hell no!

Tough call, but there we are.
    "Hostile takeovers. Shall we?"
New 2020 ranking (for now DAF and FYEO keep their previous placements)

    2) Camille: I'm not entirely sure about placing her this high, but she has something about her that I quite like.

Did Camille have a romantic relationship with Bond?

    4) Tracy: Played by the highly talented Diana Rigg. You can easily understand why Bond falls for her, this woman combines toughness, charm, and an air of cleverness. Who wouldn't fall for this sort of woman? (okay, she had money issues, but many people have them.)

She is one of the best BGs. But I have not mentioned the ones that get killed .... Aki is good too

This is a tough topic, as I've changed my mind on it and might probably continue to do so.

I guess that would be the case with many of us. But we can keep posting the updates :))

I like to consider Camille a BG, but oh well.

She does share a kiss with Bond near the end of QoS, but we don't see them have sex.

A feature of the books was always the Bond girls. They were made interesting by Fleming but would have some trait by Fleming which made them likeable ie the voodoo of Solitaire, Tiffanys outbursts, and Honeys nature girl. Luckily the films have continued this

    Tatiana Romanova

Who wins? Mother Russia, an old woman with poisoned shoes, or handsome James Bond? Tanias dilemma is that she isn't 100% accurate in her dealings with James Bond. When he does confront her with it she collapses into tears. We are not sure which way she'll go until Klebb is despatched

    Diana Rigg

Ask an actress of the standing of Dame Diana Rigg and you are due an excellent performance. My one thing with Diana Rigg would be how good she would be with Connery - it worked with Lazenby, but only just. And I can't help but wonder what an excellent pairing she and Connery would have made. And she quotes poetry at Piz Gloria in such a wonderful way...

    Anya Amasova

Sergei Borzov. That was the man. Killed by exploding rocket stick in the PTS. This is bubbling under during "spy". We saw them in bed together. When it is revealed it comes the warning "when this mission is over..." and the threat of violence. Of course you would expected one agent to disregard the feelings of another when he is killed. She actually unprofessional - but it makes good drama

    Melina Havelock

FYEO threw out the Bonds of the seventies and went back to rich characterisation of OHMSS. Gone were the bimbos and in was a girl with a purpose. Her face when her parents were killed - grief, shock, uncomprehending - but it gives her a purpose throughout the film. She sticks an arrow in her crossbow and goes after her father murderers. She, being a marine biologist, uses Greek mythology to justify what she's doing

    Severine

Which Craig girl shall I pick ie Vesper, Camille, Madeline. I think Severine gets my vote. Its a tiny role but is beautifully directed. At the Macau casino we Bond reveals her background. She was 14 when they reveal what happens to her. Her reaction is beautifully shot - she knows what will happen to her when he finds out. Also her reaction when she is told that the yacht is heading to the island is a locked rictus grin. She knows she is going to her death..
    1. For Your Eyes Only 2. The Living Daylights 3 From Russia with Love 4. Casino Royale 5. OHMSS 6. Skyfall

Bond doesn't have sex with, eg, Gala Brand in the MR novel, yet she's unquestionably that story's BG (if you like that term- how about the duller but more accurate "female lead"?) so his not sleeping with Camille does have precedents in Fleming- ie, he doesn't have to sleep with every girl he meets for her to be a BG.

Interesting point. However the world of books and films can be different at times. In the book, Bond does not sleep with Gala but we know that he is thinking about her. In fact, he had even planned to take her on holiday .... So Gala Brand, imo, is not in the grey area :))

In films, if we equate BG(s) = female lead(s), M and Moneypenny have a case for being mentioned as ones in SF. However, we know it is Severine because of the relationship shown on screen :) .... Say if Columbo in FYEO was played by a female, would the character become a BG?

He isn't a lead, so if the part were female Melina would still be the female lead. And yes, Judi Dench is the female lead of SF but not a BG!

So the female lead may not necessarily be the BG and vice versa :)

Is it only me or does anyone else dislike the abbrevation BG.

Where are the times, when we properly called them Bondgirls?

I hate it too. I feel like this is a recent thing around here. A lot of lazy abbreviations have been popping up.

I also get confused when people call their girlfriend their "GF" on here. I'm always wondering why they're talking about Goldfinger.

We are discusding BGs not Bond. BG in films = someone romantically involved with Bond (ideally in a relationship stronger than a one night stand) :p

BG stands for Barry Gibb, who had a higher voice than any Bond girl! He wins!

    Golden Rule of Communication:
The Sender (= writer on a forum) is reponsible that his message is understandable
    It's not the Receiver's (= reader) due.

BG is not a known term for a Bondgirl here - no matter if it's convenient for you or not!
If you don't care that others understand what you mean - write a blog.

Thanks for the advise .... But the context can be understood from the OP (Btw OP here = original post and not Octopussy :p )

it has already been defined "here" as can be understood from the OP

OP is a commonly used abbreviation. You're just coming up with excuses for being lazy. You're making the rest of us work to figure out what BG stands for.

    :))

Laughing at the situation where someone writes - BG in OP is great, then someone watches OP for BG and discovers that there is no BG in OP

On this thread, BG and OP have been defined so hopefully there should be no misunderstanding :)

    1. Natalya - she's smart and sexy, and helps the story a lot.

    2. Holly Goodhead - she's like the American version of XXX, but at least the acting is better (bar a scene or two)

    3. Tiffany Case - up until she's captured by Blofeld, she's a strong character.

    4. Stacy - Yeah, she screams a lot, but remember she is just a normal girl who's caught up in it with Bond.

    5. Pussy Galore - I love this character, she's got authority and seems a lot more mature than the witty and cocky Bond in GF.
