Poldark's 'Bond' audition (And Then There Were None)

This new BBC Agatha Christie adaptation finished last night. Aiden Turner is in it, an Irish actor, who got a lot of publicity for being in Poldark and showing his naked torso, with a sythe.
I only recognised him when he got his kit off - not a sentence I thought I'd ever write, I must say. Anyway, his character in this is Philip Lombard, and he seems to be modelled on James Bond, the way he plays it, albeit a Pierce Brosnan type with a touch of Dalton.
There are other nods to Bond, as the cast has the former almuna Toby Stephens and Charles Dance, a reference to 'rats in a barrel' plus the opening credits were all Bond-style.
I didn't rate this adaptation, though the outcome is far darker than the other ones I'd seen. I'd still recommend the 1940s version over this actually, and I'm not sure it works to make it a three parter, as it is really a haunted house-style mystery and best to be absorbed in one sitting. This one seemed padded out, with lots of exterior shots of the house, and dark clouds passing overhead.

Very good as 007 but only time will tell.
I agree it would have worked better as perhaps a two hour BBC film. To
Keep the " Haunted house " atmosphere.
He certainly has the classic look. Byronic in the Dalton mode. Have not watched it yet, but I also felt he was plausible in Poldark the novels being a firm favourite with Mrs Zaphod. A major bond fan herself, she was very positive about him. Not just a handsome face, I think he can act and physically he looks righ. Now how tall is he...

I get a Dalton vibe but also a bit of a Connery vibe- a manly man (no waxed chest!) who looks like he could get the job done. He'd be able to carry off the clothes as well. He also has the right amount of unknowness as well.
As for And Then There Were None, it was quite padded out; I didn't really care that 9 people were murdered because I'd forgotten most of them!

His given height is 183cm, which is canonical- although actors are known to lie about their height!

Really? I more or less always think that. Bond should not disappear in a crowd the way Daniel does (a real agent should of course ) I think it's one of Bonds characteristics that he is always slightly at odds, Fleming mentions that overseas work suits him as he does not look completely British. It's one of the silly things that I have had to get passed with Daniel (his height is a constant source of debate on the kind of sad fora given to discussing this kind of thing , where consensus seems to centre around his being 5ft 9 barefoot. It's not an issue at all with TC in RN but was for Jack Reacher and for me is for Bond.
upset as some when Tom got the part. Liked the movie, didn't think
it was fantastic and I was supprised it got a sequel ( didn't think it did
that well at the box office)
As For Daniel, it doesn't bother me. Maybe they've used different camera
angles in his movies but I've never noticed it in any scene. For me DC's tenure
Has given us so many great sequences and fights, dramatic events and even
touching, romantic sequences and I have genuinely never noticed.

I agree, there is so much more of real value in his tenure that I have more or less "let it go, let it go..."
I can understand we all have the odd " Problem" with various actors. My own with
Dalton ( who I love as Bond) is that he just doesn't look comfortable in the fight
Scenes, even how he makes a fist seems somehow odd to me, but then that's my
Problem not his.
I think when it comes to Bond we're all a little crazy, on what we pick up on.
I seen anyone else yet that I think would be an improvement on Craig. Saw the Man from Uncle recently and thought Henry Cavil was really the worst kind of wooden. He was doing an accent but his delivery was very monotone, maybe that would be different in his natural tongue.
I thought Dalton credible in the fights, not 5hat there were many of them. There is one shot in LTD where he punches out from behind the cover of the wall that does look odd and in real life would have damaged him more than the guard. Loved the Headbutt though, delivered with gusto. I remember an involuntary yelp of YES ! Coming out of my mouth when I saw ithe for the first time.

The punch he throws on the netting on the plane looks a little odd to me ?
Although I will point out he's still one of my favourite Bonds, and I'm watching
Him at the moment in The Rocketeer.
Love the RocKeteer,he camps it up and looks like he has a great deal of fun with it. Fun not being something often associated with him.
I also love Rocketeer- so dashing and villainous! He could have played Bond a bit more like that (minus the villainy of course)
