Checked the quality- it's pretty; better than in the cinema.
Yes, the Blu-ray is definitely brighter than the presentation I saw in the cinema. Sadly the movie is the same.
That's what I expected. The movie at the cinema did not look half as good and sharp as the trailers did on TV, but when I pointed it out earlier on the forum, I was told that it was likely an issue at the cinema.

Well...I'm a bit bummed by the vanilla Blu-ray But of course they'll get my $ for the Special Edition ;%

For the first time ever I have not bought the first issue on the day of release. I will wait for the 'special ' addition to see what crumbs they throw our way...I'm getting tired of being mugged, only to be mugged again. Also strangely I'm not overcome with desire to see it again This is odd, as even with QOS which I did not like I wanted to see it again (and again ) to understand why, and to see what I had missed, or been too ready to dismiss, but with Spectre I really can't be bothered.
Maybe I need some distance, to mourn what so easily could have been...

I got mine on Blu Ray Tue. Apparently some retailers in the US have their own "Special Editions". "Best Buy" has a steelbook w/ extrra material. Mine came from "Target" and included a bonus disc with following extras "The Shadow of Spectre Featurette", "From Song to Title Sequence" and the music video for "The Writings On The Wall".
Just got thru watching the BluRay on my 55" LED. Beautiful picture and sound; film plays even better at home. Can hardly wait to experience it on the 63" plasma in 5.1 surround sound.
I am going to miss Sam Mendes as he really brought the opulent, globe-trotting vibe back to Bond and his films had a sophistication to them that Craig's earlier efforts and most of Brosnan's lacked.
The BluRay is quite bare-bones. The documentary on the pre-credits sequence runs about 10 minutes, the video blogs are little more than puff pieces, the "gallery" consists of a few run of the mill images and the trailers have been widely available thru other sources. And of course there is the digital copy. I do wish EON would take a page out of other studios and get a little more daring with the extras but then they wouldn't have anything for the inevitable double, triple and quadruple dip.
does anyone know if the US version will play in Australia? i.e. is it region locked?
I understand some are and some aren't....if not does anyone want to sell me the steel book posted? it doesn't come out over here until 9th March! I'll be old and grey by then.

I'll pay the equivalent of $35 AUD delivered.
I do not have my copy in front of me but according to Amazon, the US version is Region A/1 which will only play in the following regions: North America, Central America, South America, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia

Bugger, no problem thanks for checking. I guess I'll have to wait until March
Worth noting that SKYFALL was region free, and the SPECTRE steelbook from Best Buy has no region-specific markings on the disc or the packaging. I suggest buying the Amazon.co.uk steelbook from the site (as I did for SKYFALL) and seeing if that works.

In Germany, we are Blu Ray Region B ( I think, that Australia is also B?)
And I can play the A-labelled USA Blu Ray wihout problems on both players Here.
My guess is, that the USA Blu Ray is not really locked.
I have the standard Blu Ray, not the Steelbook.

I was going to order from Amazon UK but it was the same price to ship it to me working out to be almost $45 AUD (not for the steel book one either) I can get the steel book on the 9th for $35 I think i'll just have to learn to be patient )

If there is a steelbook of the film that is the same in every country (like with Spectre) then it is usually region free. All they do is change the j card. Cheeper that way i guess.

My BR player is all-regions, but I'd rather wait for the right region release - if you don't want to wait until official Australian release, UK/Europe are in the same region, and I think the movie is released there just about now.
Have to say the picture quality on the BluRay is amazing! To me better than the movies and for some reason looks better than the itunes version...I am sure there is a technical reason for this (like being blown up on a 65 inch tv) but I saw details in the movie I had never seen before...great for research!

The song is one of the best things about the whole movie. And goes well with the video, not to mention that it saves you about 2 hours!

Yes I can confirm this, its pretty bare bones considering its a "special edition"

Still, definitely worth a buy for Bond fans.
