This flies in the face of the back-to-back film notion. But then again, all we can do is chase the bread crumbs that are dropped along the trail
A competent director could make two Bond films back-to-back in ten months. Start in 8/2018 and finish in 6/2019. And then Craig would have the rest of the year to do his TV show.
If Craig does come back, I hope its because Nolan is directing. If Craig comes back just for the dough, I'll be very disappointed in him.
Only Nolan?
If Craig comes back because there's a top-rated director involved in Bond 25 (26?) I can respect that because it shows he's interested in putting out a quality product. The only top-rated director I know who says he's interested in doing a Bond film is Nolan. So, yeah, I guess, only Nolan.

Do you think they could actually get funding to make two back-to-back films? That's a lot more capital than the Bond films would usually get.
Nolan implied that he doesn't want to do a Bond film with Craig, so I wouldn't expect that.
Do you know where Nolan implied he didn't want to do a Bond film with Craig? I Googled *nolan implies he doesn't want to do a bond film with craig* but didn't see anything.
I think Nolan has said that he will only direct Bond if he can do something new. I guess this can be interpretated to mean he doesn't want to direct Craig, but rather direct the next actor.
He will never be given 100% control, and I think he must know this. He hopes for more control than any Bond director before him, even though the directors in the Craig era (especially Mendes) was given some. I think some give and take between Nolan and EON is realistic.
If he does that he'll never get to direct Bond. EON knows Bond is what they are. While Nolan is very good and a star director, there are other actresses exelent directors who will not demand full control.

I agree. When Nolan was asked to comment on Bond, he sounded like he was referring to working with EON in his quotes.
While it did appear that Nolan's preference would be to start over with a new Bond, things can change. A meeting with EON, Craig, etc and Nolan could have decided he would like to work with Craig as Bond. That all being said, I really don't believe that Nolan will direct Bond 25 and would be surprised if he did.
"He's doing Bond first and I can't say anything about what I know or don't know about Bond, [but] It's possible it may not shoot until 2019," Showtime CEO David Nevins told reporters this week at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour. That means Purity may not air on Showtime until 2018 or possibly 2019.
Well, this seems fairly solid news Craig is to return? I assume CEO David Nevins has some insider info on Craig returning but... we have yet to have any official word from EON or MGM. If Craig doesn't return then this guy has made a mistake coming out with this comment!
I can't imagine Showtime are too happy with such a huge delay in making Purity. It was supposed to start filming this year!

These were my thoughts exactly. The CEO of Showtime knows exactly why Daniel Craig isn't available to film one of his network's most-hyped TV series.

Craig is returning for sure. If he shoots the two films he's signed up for back to back from this September as some genius has suggested :007) , then he can go on to do Purity mid next year. Shooting films back to back means just that, they are filmed pretty much at the same time. I think we will see less action and more character driven plots.
Nolan wanted to do three films. I don't know, but maybe doing two like this will be the clincher that brings him on board. I don't know if it is the case, but they have been talking to him.
Craig was out. Another bloke was signed up if DC didn't take up an option offered. His initials are TH but not the one I thought. He signed up to do it if DC didn't take them up on their offer. It was enough for DC to decide as apparently he was the last person he wanted to take the role after himself. Don't know their history, but it's one of loathing.
^^ All this may be bunkum of course.

Sounds good to me. If the fellow put on retainer was Hardy instead of Hiddleston, I'm extra glad Craigger is returning. Bond should get no shorter than Craig, IMHO. If Hardy got it, his logical successor would be Peter Dinklage.

Nolan will direct Bond at some point. Latest when BB has sold Bond to "whatever studio", which will happen, that I am certain of.
Then things will get going again, and probably at least three films will be planned in advance to be a trilogy of sorts, all directed by the same director possibly too.
Personally I can't wait for all this to happen.
I'm really not sure sure I want a Nolan/Hardy Bond. Don't get me wrong I think Nolan is a great director, and Hardy a great actor... but there is something about both (or just one of them) that seems a million miles away from Bond.... a joylessness perhaps. I know DC can be a bit too serious, but it's nothing compared to CN or TH.
If either did get on board, it would be a very different Bond landscape, and it's not one I can imagine to be honest.

It can't be Tom Hardy can it? I was under the impression they got on well while filming layer cake.

Though I think Hardy is a much better actor then Craig (amazing what he did with just his eyes in Dunkirk) and probably more popular then him at the moment. I don't think he would make a good Bond. As others noted he's too short and would probably be not too different from Craig in characterization.
Lots of good directors out there for Craig/Bond not named Nolan. I so hate what he did with the Batman franchise, really not interested in his take on Bond. OTOH very psyched about the possibility of Craig doing two Bonds back-to-back, I remember he said he was against it at some point (pre-SF?), but heck why not go out making Bond history? Kinda like how he started with Bond. :007)

Shame...I would have loved a Nolan/Hardy Bond trilogy.
Wha?
This is what happens when I'm not on AJB.
It would mean more news for you but borderline insanity for me. )
I love that Craig is (probably) returning. If it is two films, then wow, I can't wait for one now but for two films...I think I can hold out.
Maybe BB fabricated that TH (Tilly Hasterson?) would be the next Bond just get Craig (if that is the case).

The "back-to-back" thing contradicts the thing you'd mentioned about Broccolis selling off the franchise after the next one. I wonder what shifted there, whether this kicks that down the road or undoes that plan.
