The Sony leaks put EON, Sony, and most harmfully, the production in a bad light. The reality is those emails were business as usual for most big Hollywood productions. The money people bitching about cost overruns, the folks on the creative side defending the production...lots of personal attacks and pettiness not meant for public consumption. When this stuff gets out, the media jumps on it and films that that aren't even completed much less actually seen by anyone get slagged. I agree that EON, MGM, et al want no parts of that again.

I't understandable if Sony wants to avoid all the leaks they had about SPECTRE. But by this time they must know who's working on the script, and ideally they would have a director attached to the project. Why not publish that info?

Isn't John Logan the writer for Bond 25?

I don't think we have any idea who is writing Bond 25 unless I have missed something.

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that Logan was contracted for Bond 25. However things could have changed

Logan is probably involved, but has a Bond movie ever been written by only one screenwriter?
Besides, why not make it public?

Sure. A number of Bond films have only one credited screenwriter, but not since TND. Tom Mankiewicz, I believe, is LALD's only screenwriter.

Apparently they have had their share of uncredited writers over the years also. I always thought it was a huge missed opportunity that EON never used John Milius. Milius and Bond (well not Roger Moore Bond) would have been a perfect match. It's unfortunate that he has had so many serious health issues in the last decade or so, he could have really been a fantastic addition to the Craig Bonds, which would have been right up his alley.

I got the impression he was dropped for Bond 25 because of the script he and Mendes turned in on Spectre.

Can't remember where I read that.

They wouldn't be dropped because of Spectre since Purvis & Wade were came back after Die Another Day. Then they butchered Casino Royale, and they've still been welcomed back. Spectre's script did steal from Austin Powers, but it's still not the worst.

Was it Amy Pascal or Barbara who called Logan a "fraud" in those leaked emails? I'm pretty sure he's gone.

A fraud? That's interesting. Pretty strong language from the producers. Can you elaborate on this?

My impression is that it wasn't that the script was bad as much as concepts such as making M a traitor undermined the franchise (at least in the view of the people that mattered).

EON/MGM will tolerate mediocrity but they won't tolerate anything that they think threatens the money machine.

Not too much - I don't think we're allowed to post or link to the Sony hacked emails on these forums, but it was one exec's reaction to John Logan's "Blofeld as African warlord" draft, I think.

I think there will be a press conference in November as usual with Daniel Craig once more taking on the role of 007.
    Yes. Considerably!

The usual procedure is that the screen writer turns in a treatment (a description of the main characters and a broad overview of the plot--about 15 pages) and then an outline (a more detailed description of the plot and snippets of dialogue--about 50 pages for a 21/2 hour movie).

Then the producers decide if they want to commission the screenplay (about 150 pages for a 21/2 hour movie). If the screenplay is markedly different than the outline, that could be considered a form of fraud.

And this is where the Idris Elba link came from...Blofeld not Bond !

I remember rumours about searches for an actor for a major African character for SPECTRE. So that was it?

No, Pascal said in the leaked emails that Idris Elba should be the next Bond, and it caught fire from there. Chiwetel Ejiofor was in discussions for the Blofeld role (or at least, *a* role as a villain in SPECTRE).

I think Ejiofor was supposed to play the Denbigh character, which ended up being played by Andrew Scott. EON/MGM/Sony saved some dough by recasting.

    I was told it was Elba for Blofeld first, then Ejiofor was mentioned...that's straight from Eon...not from the leaked emails -{

No, Pascal said in the leaked emails that Idris Elba should be the next Bond, and it caught fire from there.

Pascal was just jumping on the bandwagon about the rumours created a few years earlier about Elba being cast as the next Bond. Americans think that any suave British man is a good choice to play Bond.

Yes...I will be having some fun on that day - collecting a friendly $5 wager from a Facebook friend who gives me no end of grief about it. Of course, hearing him whine for Tom's entire tenure as Bond will be another thing altogether B-) {[]

Maybe Daniel Craig AND Tom Hiddleston play bond in bond 25. And for the first time in the series, we see the transition from one bond to another. This would of course mean codename theory, but the DC era is a reboot after all.
