Kinda wish Sam Mendes wasn't going to direct the next one too. Cinematography in his bond films is great, but the action is balls and the soundtracks from Thomas Newman are flat.

Agreed. I hope Mendes is out. Between Newman, Temime, and the excessive color filters (in that order), there are just too many elements I don't like.

I hope that the meeting between Tom and Sam was just an asking or giving of advice...Mendes is talented, but he seems to have played himself out with Bond. A new director, please.

Mendes clearly realises this is the case, he has stated a few times that he didn't want to do another Bond.

As far as I know, Mendes isn't involved in the next one. Which is a shame, because he's given us two of the best looking Bond films to date - one brilliant Bond film in terms of narrative, and one not so good in terms of narrative. If SPECTRE was stronger on plot, he really could have been this generation's Terence Young.

Is that based on solid info or just a gut feeling ?

Based on Mendes saying he wasn't doing Bond 25.

I fully concur with this sentiment. I think Mendes' part in the last two films has been mostly of great quality. He was badly let down by the SPECTRE script but the execution of the final act is quite poor. I would fully welcome a new director for the next film whether Craig stars or not.

If it is true, and I think it might be, Kudos to Daniel for having the guts and integrity to turn down THAT amount of money. Even if the numbers are guesstimate it's clear that a HUGE amount of cash is on the table. We have had two Bonds who phoned it in for the cash, and admire Daniel for sticking to his guns. Just speculation on my part, but it feels to me that he was not delighted about how Spectre turned out, and the knee thing was a major drag. I think he has always given it everything and would not 'phone it in'. Only shame from my perspective is that he deserved and had the ability to deliver a much better Swansong.

Shame if Craig leaves the franchise. I've been loving him as Bond. Quantum of Solace was on TV last night. Not a great film, but he's so good in it, and of course the wardrobe is iconic now. However, i have to say, I would be very upset if Tom Hiddleston got the role. I think that would be an awful choice. I'm holding out for Hardy or Fassbender. Hiddleston just doesn't have A, the ability or B the charisma in my opinion. I find him a bit of non-entity pretty boy. :))

Is there any word from the female contingent on Tom's appeal? Many ladies fancy Craig, despite the beating he's taken here and elsewhere for his looks.

I'm going to show The Night Manager to my girlfriend and get her opinion...

Well, I find myself in a strange position as I like both Aiden :x and Tom :x

So if either were cast I'd be a happy lady.

For Bond I would prefer Aiden ala 'And Then There Were None' ... he is more brooding and looks wise a more traditional Bond (and a touch of the Timothy Daltons' about him)

Since the casting of Craig all bets are off as to who the producers will pick. If they go down the Hiddleston route I would like his hair darker.

Always thought Alex Olauchlin (not sure if spelled ok) would or could (only 39) would have made or make a grat Bond :)

I have to admit I am not familiar with Turner at all and have not bothered checking out his stuff. He sure looks the part with regards to the Fleming aspect compared to Tom.

I guess in the looks dept etc TH might be an easier transition from the DC era between the two - however watching the Night Manager he is extremely well spoken so guess they might play on a more reserved, charming kind of Bond (Like Moore without the comedy slant)

While I find both Hiddleston and Turner as James Bond interesting, I must admit they don't seem very masculine. They are good actors who might be more convincing after hitting the gym. We'll see.

I guess we have to remind ourselves how DC transformed himself for the role - night and day in every aspect

If 'The Night Manager' was Hiddleston's Bond audition, 'And Then There Were None' was Turners.

It was on over Christmas on BBC1. Check it out. I thought it was a great production of an Agatha Christie classic.

I'd be happy with either, but prefer Hiddleston as I'd like a tall Bond this time.

True Dat. Is that because apart from Craig they have all stayed on longer than they should? Although that does not hold with Brozzer. He was not bored with it, wanted to continue and was good for at least one more. His departure was not of his choosing. Looks like Daniel has chosen to avoid that scenario.

I haven't seen "And then there were none" or "The night manager, but I plan to. Like I said - both are interesting candidates. But at this point Clive Standen is my absolute favourite: Classic Bondian look, but stil distinctive. Right age, height, level of fame etc. Very good at the physical part of the job, and a good actor.
I don't think Aidan Turner looks tough enough on that picture, sorry.

I so hope this isn't true! I was so looking forward to one more Craig Bond. I've loved nearly everything about his time as Bond, and like others I was hoping for a "final" Craig Bond film.

They have set up so much in "Skyfall" and "Spectre"... A new M, a new Q a new Moneypenny, a new Blofeld, a new Spectre... I know it has been done before but it will be so strange if they keep those actors playing those characters and not have Craig as Bond. They are "his" MI6 and villains.

Also he was just so damn good I am greedy and want more films with him as Bond. He *is* Bond to me.

Until an official Eon press release is out I am choosing to believe that this is the Daily Mail looking to get page views and their "insider" is full of rubbish!

(I'll be over here in the corner rocking back and forth with my fingers in my ears going "la la la la Craig is not leaving, Craig is not leaving lalalalala" :-)

If it makes you happy you should continue. Mrs Zaphod is very 'fond' of Mr Turner also (she prefers Hiddleston for Bond, but finds Aidan particularly appealing) :007)

I must admit I thought TH was a bit wimpy looking and was horrified when I first saw him linked with Bond. The Night Manager changed my view considerably and he also has a bit of a sly side to him. Im not saying he is perfect but its worth watching not just because it was good but also to see how TH performs (he develops as the series progresses)

As people and the media stated - it really is a Bond audition due to the role, costume dressing and interaction with villains / women. Check it out!

I thought the Night Manager was dreadful. Terrible acting, miscasting... the list goes on.
    Yes. Considerably!

As much as I like Hiddleston, and I did love the Night Manager, he just doesn't scream "Bond" to me.

Also because he is so well known I would have a hard time seeing him as the character, and not just Tom playacting at being Bond.
