    We were going to have a day out in Southport today but as usual the North West weather is not being nice...... It looks like SPECTRE is going to get another viewing instead. -{

    Never been to Southport, but I thought Formby was beautiful. Love the dunes.

    Formby is lovely. The woods and the dunes make for a great day out. From the beach you can walk to Southport or Crosby (look at Anthony Gormley's another place when you get there) but it is a fair old trek.

    I like Formby a lot, wouldn't mind living there. Maybe if my book launch goes really well - ON 2ND APRIL, AT THE WHITBY BOOKSHOP IN WHITBY :))

    I got the worst sunburn I've ever had in those sandunes !! Painful memories :#

    Anthony Gormley's 'Another Place' is very cool and slightly unnerving.

    In the light of all the above reports I have cancelled my trip. If I do decide to go it will be heavily revised. Morcambe & perhaps the lake district.

    Good luck because there is bugger all in Morecambe -{

    The clue was in an earlier post - that it would be a base for travel & sightseeing to other areas. Apart from a look around the town, a guided walk across the bay & of course the visit to see Eric that would be it. We wouldn't spend our holiday sitting in the bus shelters. I am interested in staying in the Midland hotel. Given what has been said here I could revise the plan to include Liverpool (indeed we could perhaps have a night or two there) & visit to Formby. I had always intended to 'do' a bit of the lake district also.

    Surprisingly enough I did catch your clue ;) I was merely pointing out there isn't much to do in Morecambe - apologies for that.

    Mmmmmm - Bury black pudding is the best!

    I like it grilled on the outside so it goes crisp, but soft on the inside.

    I was surprised to find a big black pudding on my plate in a traditional all-Spanish restaurant in Madrid once. It wasn't called black pudding, but it seems that the Spanish like a good hockey-puck of congealed blood as much as we do.

    Believe it or not the wife and I are heading to Whitby on Saturday for a walk and probably lunch at the Duke of York, I might just pop in and say hello.
    It was either that.....or the priesthood
