I was wondering if there were any fans here of the author Herbert Asbury (1889-1963)?
His most famous work would be The Gangs of New York: An Informal History of the Underworld (1927) and The Barbary Coast: An Informal History of the San Francisco Underworld (1933).
Martin Scorsese filmed the first of these as Gangs of New York in 2002 and this brought about the reissue of Asbury's books on American gangs.
I currently have three of Asbury's books on American gangs of the C19th in New York, San Francisco and New Orleans.
I'd love to hear from any fans of Herbert Asbury on here, if in fact there are any!

I've never seen Gangs of New York either but would kind of like to now. I recall it coming out in late 2002. It's just that I've come across some of Asbury's books on American gangs and thought that some members here might have been familiar with him.
Some threads die off but I thought that I'd give this one another chance!
Amended the title a little bit as it is a somewhat esoteric subject, but hey, that's me!
