He's slowly turned into a dictator with supreme rule and I don't think there is anyone left in position to be able to oppose him inside Russia. I honestly fear there are frightening times ahead.

It's my belief it play out like this,
The North Koreans will start aggression towards it neighbouring countries, China will step up to that fight, the Russians will align against the Chinese and put us in opposition to the Russians.
Since Putin came to power the Russians are commiting as bad atrocities within their own country since the 50's.

Yes, a dangerous situation indeed! Let´s just hope that the American people will do the right thing and elect an arse of their own to counterbalance things! It will be just like during the cold war, except instead of the balance of power and threat of the assured mutual destruction there will be the balance of bling and the threat of arsed mutual douchedom....

Yes, and the first annexation of a sovereign state since 1945 with Crimea. The clock seems to be turning back inexorably to the bad old days. Worrying times that we live in! :#

Am I reading you correctly if I think you are comparing Putin to Stalin (died in 1953)? While Putin is an authoritarian leader and today's Russia is pretty much paying deocracy lip service, I don't think he can be campared to the Soviet leaders in general and Stalin in particular.

Putin has a background from "The security organs". His power leans heavily on FSB and he likes to recruit leaders from that service (and St Petersburg). I don't think a name-change signals a real change in policy.

No, he's part of the problem in Syria but Russia is too big to be ignore or to fall out with and so there's little that the Western powers can realistically do with him (unless he wants to do it himself of course).

I'm not comparing Putin to stalin but starting with krushchev who tried to remove stalins legacy and released political prisoners the Russians have had pretty much more moderate leaderships by comparison until Putin who has pushed the Russians to near bankruptcy, escalated tensions, committed acts of war, terrorism and subjected his people to crippling international sanctions. His respect for human rights and human life is pretty much non existent. He is now empowering his security services to subdue his people to stem any kind of opposition growing against him.

If Putin remains in power and keeps doing what he's doing, I think it would provide good fodder for a future Bond. They could do a mission that would involve the Russian government being behind the plot, such as directly funding the main villain.
