Do you have to show identification in your countries to vote?

Yes, since 2007. Our Conservatives passed a law requiring it, and it went over with relatively little fanfare, for better or for worse.

In the UK you are sent a polling card with your name and address on. you show this at the polling station and then your name is highlighted on a list and you are given a ballot paper. No photo Id is needed.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

Never. But I'm always asked my name and whether I've already voted elsewhere.

    Yes,

and you have to bring your notification of the eligibility to vote in that particular election/referendum with you to your designated voting station(?), which will be collected by the official checking your ID.

Yes, thanks to many years of dead people voting and the West Belfast mantra of "Vote early, vote often" one during a search we found 35 voting cards in a prospective councillors house.

In N.Ireland you have to bring your voting card and some photographic ID. To stop
Voting fraud. As there have been cases of people voting multiple times or even
Dead people voting, .... ( Back to those Zombies again) ;)

It's the same here in Norway.

Yes, in Northern Ireland you take your photo ID; driving licence, passport, voter ID card etc. with you and the officials at the polling station check it off against the electoral roll. They then score your name out with a ruler and pen to show that you have voted and always check the amount of ballot papers issued with those in the ballot box to make sure that there are no discrepancies. As TP says, electoral fraud was long a problem in NI. These photo ID reforms have thankfully made this much more difficult. You are then given your ballot paper or papers depending on the vote and off you go to the voting booth and when you are done you drop your ballot paper in the ballot box. :)

In Missouri you have to of course be on the registration rolls, then you have to show some ID. It can be a utility bill with your name and the address that corresponds to your registration.

You hear people griping that voter ID requirements infringe on people's right to vote, but that's silly....you have to have a picture ID to cash checks, apply for social security, buy a ticket on an airliner or train...

Showing a utility bill would be no use in Northern Ireland. Photographic ID is the only way to curb voter fraud and protect the integrity of the democratic vote. I do know that things are probably different in the US and each state has its on law on elections I'm sure.

But you don't have to take your polling card. You can just give them your name, confirm your address and you're in.

True, though it says that it may take a little longer to identify you etc without the card. It speeds up the voting process if you do bring it with you to the polling station.

There are people in our country who say that voter fraud is not prevalent enough to cause any real problems...these same people are still mad that something like 500 votes decided the 2000 Presidential Election in Florida and Bush won by the Electoral votes even if he didn't win the popular vote.

So yes, voter fraud does matter...especially in a tight race. 500 votes decided a very important race.

No ID needed to vote in Illinois, if you give them a name that they can find on their list. Of course, Chicago---the city where The Dead have a significant voter voice---is in this state :#
