On the subject of haunting, ghosts seem to be early adapters of new technology. Affecting phones,
Recording devices, temperature gauges etc. So would anyone know any stories about Haunted web

It certainly crashed my PC on attempting to upgrade itself.

Yes I do....I'm not sure it's ghosts or what. My mom told me a story once that still sends chills up my back. She said her and her sister were playing on her Uncle Matt's farm on Sand Mountain, Alabama when they were about 6; so I'm guessing it was 1923 or so..anyway, she said Uncle Matt's barn was actually dug into the side of a hill and covered with logs and dirt...she said it was quite large and very dark...
She said her and her sister, Laura Mae, heard voices coming from the barn and they walked in. She said they saw Uncle Matt sitting on a chair and he was lit up very brightly and he was talking in the direction the light was coming from...As they walked in they asked him what was going on...my mom said as she turned toward the light she thought she saw a person and then it was gone and was dark again...she said Uncle Matt was crying and saying that they had run "Ma" off,,,his wife who had died a few years previously. He told them later that he talked to Ma a lot...
Another story my mom told me was that when my brother Mike was in the polio ward in Memphis in 1951 they went to visit him. In those days they strapped the little kids to the beds in an attempt to keep their muscles from atrophying. She said she was crying at seeing him but that he told her he would be alright..that he had an angel sitting at the foot of this bed. He also said other kids had angels but he pointed out two other little boys didn't,,my mom said those two boys died that night..Mike told her the angels we wearing grey robes and they never smiled..just sat there. My brother Mike still remembers that to this day.
So yes I believe there is something, but I'm unsure what it is.

Mr. Napoleon, you're right. It does make my brother sound sort of sinister..

Luckily last night, I dug out my old Ouija board for a bit of a séance, quickly contacting
Albert Einstein, who told me ghosts didn't exist, This wasn't enough proof for me so next I
Questioned Prof Carl Sagan, who also said spirits didn't exist !

Thank you for sharing your stories, Ammo08. Very interesting experiences recounted there.

...and no doubt Frankie Howerd too who told you to get some better material if you want to continue using his avatar...
Japanese proverb say, "Bird never make nest in bare tree".
Frankie ( much like Dave Allen) was accepted by the "alternative " comedians, because of his
genius, unlike many of the older comics. Who rather unfairly, were driven off the scene.

Actually I'm quite the skeptic about a lot of things, although I am a practicing Catholic..
I don't believe we're alone in the universe, but I'm not sure we've been visited....I'm unsure of ghosts etc, but I believe in an afterlife, so are ghosts, apparitions etc that hard to believe? I don't know.
Even as a Catholic I don't think we are the only right way, it just happens to be the one I'm comfortable with.

30 years ago I was a Charge Nurse in a hospital which had been around since the 30s. One of the wards had been used for 50 years as a gyneaecological ward, and countless terminations had been carried out there.
The ward (along with several others) was closed when a new, larger hospital was opened a few miles away and all of the staff and planned work was moved there. My ward was one of the few that stayed open, and it became our custom of a weekend (all quiet- no admin, drs, etc) to raid the closed wards for any furniture that we could use- chairs, tables, whatever. We'd take a roll of sticky labels and attach them to what we wanted, and the portering staff would later collect them.
For no particular reason, we had raided the other wards before deciding on hitting the gyn ward. One day, Sheila my 2nd in command suggested going there so she and I went down armed with a roll of sticky labels. We wandered through the ward, attaching a label to whatever we thought our ward could use, and ended up in the operating theatre. Now bear in mind that this was where 50 years of terminations had taken place.
All the medical/technical equipment had been removed, of course, so there was little that we could take for our ward. The door automatically closed behind us and we looked around. From nowhere, I felt the sensation of being watched by many pairs of eyes. I would like you to imagine standing alone in the centre of, say, Wembley Stadium with your eyes closed- you would still be able to sense thousands of people looking at you. There was no feeling of enmity or animosity, simply the sensation of being observed by a large number of people. Nevertheless, I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck rising.
At this point, I turned to Sheila and to this day I can't remember which one of us said, "Do you feel that too?" The other replied "Yes, let's get out of here" and we did, rather quickly. Outside we compared notes and had both felt the identical sensation.
Now, I saw nothing and heard nothing. The feeling though was perfectly real, and in fact I can feel the hairs on the back of my neck rising as I type this.
Sheila and I talked this over afterwards, naturally, and both of us had felt the same- the sensation of being watched by many eyes, but with no evil intent. Needless to say, we never went back there.
Although, if you didn't know the history of a place, would we get the same spooky feelings ?
One very interesting experiment by the magicians Penn & Teller was to get three ghost
hunters to visit a house of their choosing. To report back on any ghost or spirit activities.
The three researchers did report back with all sorts of spirits living there, but not one of
them picked up on the ghost who was famous for being there ! )

I dont believe in ghosts but I had some very odd experiences at my parents house. It started with being able to hear someone carrying a tray and one day some friends seeing an old lady walking past the door. I always felt a little scared in the house and once I heard someone whisper in my ear that my brother was asleep. That really did freak me out. Our dog would often watch something walking around the house but you couldn't see anything. Quite often she'd watch the ceiling and track something moving. And in hindsight when she sometimes came into my room at night I now realise she must have felt uncomfortable there too and was seeking comfort instead of being downstairs.
I never really felt comfortable in the house. Things constantly went missing while we lived there. It could be right in front of you and then disappear when you looked back. My brother knows the daughter of the previous owners and apparently her grandmother died there.
Things got a lot worse many years later. My parents divorced and my mum moved out. My brother then moved out a little while later and so did I. I rarely saw my dad because of an argument we had. But we reunited a few years later when he was dying of cancer. I used to have to go over there sometimes and help him when he was very ill at the end and I absolutely hated sleeping in the house. It felt like someone was there in the room with you and the landing at the top of the stairs often felt like someone was sitting there staring down the stairs (I didn't mention that to my brother at the time but we talked about it recently and he felt exactly the same).
My father was a very rational man. He was never scared of anything. And my brother and I never mentioned our feeling about the house to him as we didn't want to scare him when he was there and ill on his own. But one day while staying at my brothers to recover from a round of chemo my dad turned around to my brother completely out of the blue and told him that he didn't like staying at the house and that "the house isn't friendly". To this day that still sends shivers down my spine.
There are a collection of things that happened after he died. My brother and I had to go around there and clear the house out (he'd accumulated an amazing amount of junk including a cellar full to the celing). very strange things would happen again; things would disappear that we'd put down and on one occasion my brother walked into the kitchen and he swears that he heard a massive bang against the back door and the shadow of two hads smack against the privacy glass and slide down to the bottom of the door. Again my brother is a very rational person but he said it scared him a lot. He checked outside and there was nothing out there and no way to get in or out of the garden unless someone had jumped over the fence (which would be visible from the rear window).
I've forgotten half of the things that happened there now. But after all this had happened my final visit was to go back one night and turn the water and electrics off while the house sale was being completed. It was March so it was very dark. Both the electric mains switch and the water stopcock were in the cellar. I didn't have a torch as I'd just come from work and I'd completely forgotten to bring one. So I had to go down the cellar, leave the cellar door open and turn off the electrics at the other side of the room. As soon as I did that it went pitch black. Nothing weird happened that time but I was absolutely petrified when feeling my way back out of the cellar with no lights, up the stairs, through the hall and out of the front door.
I still don't know whether to believe in ghosts. I'm very logical and rational and completely accept my mind may have been playing tricks on me. But I've never had the same feeling in another house (my current house is also over 100 years old and the atmosphere is completely different). The feeling there gradually got worse and worse over the years to the point where it felt positively evil inside.
It was bought by a property developer (an absolute git who dropped the price on the day of completion) and it was split into three flats. I do wonder whether anyone there since has felt anything odd.

Exhibit B: The Ghost Monk of Newby Church, Church of Christ the Consoler, Skelton-cum-Newby, North Yorkshire, 1963. Another compelling one taken by a church minister:
This is near ripon in North Yorkshire, I've spent time in that area,
There is a copy of that picture (or was) in a local pub called. The crown. The church was built as a memorial to a man who was murdered overseas by his mother. The photo of the masked Monk was taken by a minister who was locally renowned for liking a tipple or ten, the interesting thing is that the mask is thought to be a plague or leprosy mask, but no plague or leprosy was ever associated with that church, but there was a lepers church in ripon itself that the minister often visited. But obviously in 1963 such things were history. Coincidentally the lepers church is now a domestic house and l did work towards its conversion and conservation.
Fake I'm afraid.
Do I believe it ghosts? Not sure what you'd call a ghost. I've experienced some weird crap I can't explain, but my mind remains open. I'd like to think there's more to life and death than simply being born, working and pegging it.
What concerns me is the similarity between minigeff (avatar) and (so called) ghost in question. I never believed in ghosts before but why not? My sister swore blind she saw a ghost back in England when we were kids at our home in Cheshire. I later found out our house was built on a burial ground.
Then again I never believed in witches either until my fiancée (at the time) jumped out the window and flew away on a broomstick. I didn't mind her leaving me but I had to buy another broomstick.

I posted awhile ago on another thread about an experience I had at the old Friern Hospital - formerly Colney Hatch Lunatic Asylum.
Here is a precis ...
It was an old, Victorian, sprawling hospital. It has the biggest corridor in Europe,a third of a mile long. It had been closed down and waiting redevelopment.
I was on duty when we had a call from a caretaker that someone was on the roof ... people were always trying to steal the lead and copper from the building whilst it was closed ... I got there with a collegue and we split up to to investigate. He went with the caretaker and went on my own. I went inside, started down some of the corridors and literally lasted 10 minutes before I had to go outside !! The atmosphere was unreal and I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life.
The building is still there but is now luxury flats. Some of the One Direction boys and footballers have lived there .... I wouldn't have bought one though that's for sure )
