As Mathew reaches the US after wreaking havoc across some vulnerable and beautiful countries including some brilliantly used as bond locations, I'd just like to offer my best wishes for those affected by the destruction and turmoil. I'd like to offer my support to ajb members battening down to ride the storm out, hope you all keep safe and well.

I posted this a day or so ago ......

Sickening to see the storm hitting Haiti almost seven years after the terrible earthquake. People STILL
Living in tents and makeshift houses   makes you wonder just where all those millions of pounds
raised to help, actually ended up

There was an interview with a 15 year old girl on bbc radio 4 this morning. Since the earthquake
she and her family have been homeless, ( in Haiti ) living in a local church, which had been destroyed
by Matthew, so is once again homeless. Yet she was singing ( lovely voice ) and was still optimistic
for the future. The human spirit, is a truly amazing thing.

I echo those thought tp, I looked for another thread on this but couldn't find one? I've been out the loop for a couple days due to a cracked screen on my phone meaning I could only see the bottom half. As always youre too quick for me.
I heard this morning the storm has been downgraded to a 3, too late for the people of Haiti and Nassau but hopefully loss of life will be limited anywhere else in its path.
The people of Haiti show us how to thankful for very very little, puts a lot of what some westerners complain about into perspective.

Apparently the last time Miami was hit. It wasn't expected to be as bad, so this time
they are really taking it seriously. The announcements from the authorities are very
    plain. Matthew is a Killer.
    On a lighter note ......
Why are reporters made to stand outside in high winds or flooding ? I wouldn't expect
Them to stand inside a burning building, to tells us how hot it was.

I can't find where to change the thread title so I'll use this thread to discuss and offer support for Irma.
I know we have a few Floridian members who I'm sure are battening the hatches or considering evacuation, I wish you all well, Irma has already decimated some islands rendering some uninhabitable. Let's hope aid arrives quickly, I'm sure our own royal navy will be in attendance.

This is bad. Very bad and my prayers are with this peoples. I see only yesterday on the television news that some air lines companys are still flying peoples into Florida for holidays when peoples are being warned to evacuate?

I too worry for the people who will be afected by hurricane Irma. I hope no memeber of AJB or their loved ones are in danger.
Sadly we will see more and worse hurricanes in the future. It's impossible to say if any one hurricane is caused by climate change, but hurricanes form over warm water (26 degrees celsius?), so a warmer climate will lead to more hurricanes.

It's been a rough hurricane season here in the US. The damage in Houston from Harvey will cost billions to mitigate, to say nothing of the disruption to people's lives (and some lost ones :# ). Now comes Irma. It's already thrashed through Puerto Rico, and the whole of Florida could potentially be hit. She's that big. And Jose and Katia are lurking out at sea. Crazy.

But forgetting the US, my heart goes out to the people of Barbuda, Anguilla, St. Martin, etc. Those islands have far fewer resources and infrastructure than we do in the US.
    Hilly...you old devil!

I heard a few minutes ago that parts of some of the islands shouldn't expect to have electricity restored for 6 months!!!!

Terrible, I've heard that st Martins and Barbuda essentially have no infrastructure left and are for the most part uninhabitable :# I also heard on the radio the UK foreign secretary declaring support, aid and finances are in place for those affected.

I know human lives are at stake here, but as a Bond fan I wonder if Ian Fleming's Goldeneye house is in danger of getting destroyed.

I manage many properties in Florida and had to workout getting them all protected, from Clearwater, Tampa, St. Pete, and even Plant City. Been a "fun" couple of days.

Some people were at Home Depot since 6am waiting for plywood to be delivered and that was at 3pm.

    I hope that everyone fares well that is in Florida or on the East Coast and if you have any questions for preps you can shoot me a PM. -{

    Best,
    Stefan

The projected trajectory has Irma swinging north of Jamaica, they will surely have some wild weather but Goldeneye will dodge the devastating storm.

I see some frothing at the mouth ministers have once again blamed the gay community for

Yes. To some there is a clear connection between consenting adults having sex and the weather :#

I think instead of finding a minority to blame, they'd
Be better employed in helping to fundcraise or send
Help. ...... Like they're supposed to do. 8-)

Been catching up and seen the devastation on TV, it gives you a real sense of perspective. I can only imagine what it must be like for all involved, those already dealing with the consequences and those who live in fear of what is to come.

I wish all (including those in the AJB fraternity) good luck over the coming days/ weeks - stay safe!

Humans are robust and whatever happens will bounce back - it's what we do despite the heart break. Life is precious things can always be replaced. Now is the time for everyone else to dig deep and support the those affected (I see the Red Cross has started an appeal). The UK government has finally mobilised but it will be a drop in the ocean, but something is better than nothing.

    Good luck all

    Cheers :007)

Jennifer Lawrence has also blamed these states for voting for Trump, calling it an act of God's judgement. You gotta learn to tune out the speech and speculation of fools.

I remember a verse in the New Testament, when there had been an incident where a structure collapsed and crushed and killed a handful of people, and the people at that time said: "It was God's judgement, these men
died because they were sinners." Jesus responded to this and said: "Do you really think that these men were more wicked than you are? I tell you the truth, unless you repent, you too will perish."
  • I pray God keeps everyone in Florida safe. Even the gay community.

I have never seen a hurricane and hope i never do. Also i think at this time many holiday makers will be trapped. I think the americans will look after them well but I prey that every body involved is safe from harm.
  • ChriscoopChriscoop Belize Posts: 10,458MI6 Agent
The ridiculous thing is that holiday companies were still flying tourists into Florida up until late last week I heard!
