Locations - suggestions, rumours and reports

I wonder what locations Bond25 will have outside Turkey, Italy and the Alps? Only joking - I hope? :))
Here are my first suggestions, and it's not where you think it is :v

Ronda, Spain. It reminds me of Constantine, Algeria, but the movie infrastructure and safety is probably better.

All great locations! All I ask is that they don't go to Italy again! :D

All great locations! Ronda looks fantastic and Cape Town is a beautiful city! What story suggestions could fit with these locations?

Well, gold and diamonds always go with South Africa. Perhaps there was a a dark project from the aparteid times, manufacturing a virus that is manipulated to only target people with a particular set of DNA - such as ethnic groups?

You are right, South Africa has so much potential. I have an idea for a tv series based in the immediate aftermath of the fall of apartheid. Its a really interesting period where you had members of the armed wing of the ANC (who had been trained by the KGB) suddenly become ministers in the new government. Massive corruption, scandal and social change all ripe for drama!

Never read it or heard the plot, so I can't say.

It would be good if Bond went to a completely new country or one that has been rarely visited. Africa or Australia could be good choices I think.

Either could be terrific. I particularly like the idea of Australia. Both could lend themselves to a post colonial narrative.

    Or Italy! ;)

Just kidding. Australia is the big one, since it's a part of the world he has never visited. I could definitely be on board for Africa too. He has only north Africa, and there is so much else on that continent, with many very different countries. I don't count Madagascar in CR because it's obvious they didn't go anywhere near Africa.

That top pic is just crying out for a plane chase under the bridge with the following plane having to take evasive action by flying under the concrete arch.....

These are all breathtaking locations. Even if they go with a tighter budget for 25 it's amazing what can be done with remote units shooting footage of these type of locations and utilizing matte work and composites to recreate them flawlessly on the screen.

I think Australia would make a lot of sense. There's British heritage, and many recent films have shot, so it may be cost effective as well. I'd like to see it.

I don't think those techniques worked particularly well in Skyfall. It was very obvious that Bond never went to China. For such a grand location such as what is pictured above, that can't be faked.

Yes, that film was a miserable failure. :)) Personally I think Skyfall looked great.
Seriously though, it probably really cranks up the budget more when there are multiple remote locations (like SPECTRE).
The reality is, we have no idea that there is even any move toward a lower budget for Bond 25.

I'm a fan of the DN, TB and YOLT approach: one prominent remote location. The films don't need multiple remote locations, so that will cut down on the costs to just have one rather than have many and fake some of them. The Bond films are not television. If they say they are in a location, they should film there or somewhere else very similar to it so it looks like we're really there. The Bond films have always been known for breathtaking locations, and those can't be faked. Hotel rooms and offices can.

A little too much globe-hopping gets a bit tedious and tends to defy the reality of time. South Africa could certainly be a great location. You have everything: mountains, beaches, desert, forests, modern urban cities, villages, etc. Native African, Dutch and English cultures. There is of course the diamond mines and trade along with the Country's emergence as a regional hub for illegal drug trade could all contribute as plot points. Of course, a major variable is how friendly a particular country is to the film trade; tax breaks, availability of prime locations, usage permits, etc. The city I live in, Philadelphia, PA has lost a ton of film location business because the state of Pennsylvania is very stingy with tax breaks to film productions.

This is true. And it's understandable why they haven't filmed in some places that might be dangerous or untrustworthy. But I can't understand why Casino Royale took place in "Montenegro". Why couldn't they just call it what it really was, Prague? They were filming in such a beautiful city and couldn't even take advantage of it because they wanted it to be something it wasn't for no reason.

Sounding more exotic doesn't mean a thing if it doesn't look more exotic. And I've never heard anyone describe Prague as anything less than one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

We're going to play a high-stakes, winner-taker-all poker game for $100 million in Prague.

Sure, Montenegro sounds more exciting ... for one second. Then Bond gets there and they have to hide Prague's beauty because it is "Montenegro".
