I just watched FYEO with my wife for the first time. I hadn't watched it in a while, and it's faster-paced than I remember it being. It is still one of my favourites, and it is amongst my wife's favourite Bond films. She loves the actors in it and she appreciates how it's not as absurd as some of the other films I have shown her. It's now her second favourite after OHMSS. I was always sad that John Barry hadn't scored this one, but this time I really appreciated Bill Conti's score in the context of the film more than usual. Melina's motif is brilliantly used, and the decending fifth motif from the title theme gives the film a wonderful musical identity. I've always loved the score as music on its own, and my wife liked the score too.

My wife thought Lisl looked age-appropriate for Roger Moore as she thought she was a good 15 years older than she was. And she asked me why Bond didn't want to sleep with Bibi...

We need to see Bond ski again in a good movie. I was disappointed with the Spectre scene in which Bond took the plane skiing. But I did love those scenes in Spectre that were just like out of Moore's Bond movies. Where usually the bad guy races up to Bond and Bond nods at them. Moore was cool how he always gave a little smile or smirk. Dalton did it too in The Living Daylights.

For Your Eyes Only is a good one for me because I like that summer, sunny feel of the movie. Also I own the soundtrack too. So if you hear someone driving around playing the music from that mountain chase scene. That's probably me as I doubt many do that.

A bit of Skyfall but we turned it over to Austin Powers because it's more fun.

SF is another not-quite Bond film that Craig specialises in With CR, he wasn't quite Bond because he was a rookie finding his feet, we were told. In QoS he wasn't quite Bond yet because he was grieving and on a personal mission. In SF he isn't quite Bond either, this time he's off the beat because he feels betrayed by his country and again, has issues, this time with being over the hill.

Only in Spectre was he really Bond imo.

With the next film from what I've read, it's another one where Craig isn't really 007, he has reason not to be the Bond out of the box we grew up with.

So in SF he messes up, watches a receptionist get offed, then stands to see the villain's assassination carried out - the charmer - and it may be because of the way it's written, that he's behind the punch and failed his medical and actually having a bit of a crisis - but it's not presented really by the director that way, so he just seems like a clot imo.

After reading a discussion between Barbel and Sir Miles over the musical merits of " another way to die "
I was in the mood for a bit of QOS.

But they didn't use the excellent theme tune, as written by David Arnold & Don Black and sung by Shirley Bassey. They used the other thing instead.

Where you discussing 'No Good About Goodbye'? I love that. It should have been the theme tune but I do like 'Another Way To Die' too. It's the best thing about QoS as far as I'm concerned :v

Spectre is on ITV2 tonight. I'll probably pop into it at some stage.

I realised earlier today that I haven't watched a Bond film yet this year, and quite shockingly that means that I haven't watched a Bond film in the current decade! Anyway, I remedied that with a viewing of For Your Eyes Only this evening. The choice of film was mostly inspired by having read the chapter on FYEO in Some Kind of Hero yesterday, and also reflecting on how much Fleming material was actually included in the screenplay - even the amusing identigraph scene is based on Fleming. I thoroughly enjoyed the film, one of my favourite Moores. I'm really feeling in the mood for more 80s Bond flicks and may indulge in a few more over the next little while.

Oh dear ... Hubby wasn't impressed with Christoph Waltz. 'Who's this guy? He's not a very good Bond villain' :o

The scene where Blofeld is trying to laser Bond's brain always reminds me of a scene in Flash Gordon.

Have you jumped ship and got yourself a new husband. Lady Rose? It's the only way I can account for the above comment. I mean, surely he's seen that Bond film loads of times seeing as he's married to you? :D
I watched it, love that film. All the same... like, sending the henchman to kill Bond on the train. But of course, if he doesn't succeed by chance, I've got everything set up for his arrival at the hotel, all the photos framed etc. What's that? Oh, you killed him on the train. Seems a waste. Well, pop them in the bin. :#

Just to play Devil's advocate, Perhaps Hinx was acting on his own initiative ? :p
In an early draft script he was supposed to be Bringing Blofeld his yearly supply
of new socks, Hence why Blofeld hasn't got any ;)

Blofeld does have socks, he just wears them in the same colour as his skin. It's yet another way he deceives us.

Ha ... still the same old hubby NP.

He's never been into Bond so never pays much attention if I have them on. The last time he watched a complete Bond was when I made him go to the cinema with me to see CR.I don't think he's seen the whole of Spectre.

I don't completely disagree with him. Christoph was a bit of a disappointment for me and should have most finitely have been wearing socks. :))

I too was disappointed with Christoph Waltz as Blofeld. I was so excited on learning of his
casting in the film, but in SPECTRE it was all just a bit Meh! ......

Lord Rose is a Bond heathen but after 26years I don't think I'm going to convert him!!

It doesn't help that we no longer have a DVD player in the house so I have to take my Bond where I can these days. :#

aw thats too bad, but I understand.
Higgins group viewing sessions do assume the viewers have the film handy and available to watch.

well whatever you do watch, keep the reviews coming!
I always learn something new reading others comments on the films they watch
