I still think Moore would have been the one for OHMSS. The opening is basically an episode of The Saint anyway, then he’d be able to handle the Sir Hilary comedy stuff so much better, and as we saw later, his Bond was much more comfortable in romantic and more loving situations in FYEO, OP etc.
Yes, I think you're right @emtiem. That sounds terrific - and he'd have handled the "This never happened to the other fellow" line so much better if they'd have kept it in. That would have been the equivalent of a halo appearing over his head 😁.
Had Moore was available in 1969, I don't think OHMSS would've been his film.
It would've been probably, The Man With The Golden Gun, as originally intended, set in Cambodia.
They wanted to film TMWTGG back in 1969 following YOLT, and Moore was their supposed Bond to play in that film, but he still have contractual obligations with The Saint.
But hey, count me in as someone who wants to see it, I think it would've been a lot more better than what we've got in 1974.
I don't think Bond is crying here even though someone said above that Bond's eyes do look wet. But there are two things that I could add here that haven't been mentioned:
1) Bond sucks out the poisonous "egg spine" from Domino's foot moments earlier. Could it be that the poison causes a reaction - a bit like tasting vinegar on its own?
2) Domino mentions something also of interest slightly earlier in the scene. She mentions that her brother was the only other person to make her cry when they were children. Bond interrupts her by saying he has something to tell her. She then responds by saying "I'm sorry James. I didn't mean to embarrass you by speaking of love. I know-" then Bond cuts her off.
My question here is what does she "know"? Has Bond already told her that he is an orphan and that he has no family?
That's possible but isn't she talking about family love between herself and her brother? And that is different to romantic love (well I hope she means it differently 🤣)
My guess is that she and James understand very well that they are infatuated, but haven't crossed the line into love. There's that tricky time when she is waiting for him to say "I love you" and she may be thinking that talking about love (yes, even family love) might be seen as being pushy. As REM said, "Oh no, I've said too much".
I very much disagree with what you say about Dalton. He wasn't nearly as jokey as Moore, but in my opinion Moore made the movies too comedic. I find Dalton's performances consistantly bondian, but clearly more flemingesque than Moore. Dalton conwayed a range of emptions. Dangerous, romantic, angry, jokey, sorrowful, focused and so on. Facets of emotions, but usually inncontrol of hos emotions as Bond has to be.

Ha! Yes, you can imagine him rolling his eyes slightly and saying: “Well, that never happened to the other fellow”

More grounded.
Bumping an old thread again:

I don't think so. I suggest she was going to say something along the lines of "I know you've never said that you loved me".

I agree, Bond put on the sunnies to hide his tears, always seemed that he wanted Domino to be able to focus on what her "briefing"
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
