Pictured with the R&B henley and MA Winch trousers (which I still need to get taken up and tapered slightly).

This is a size S, which is the size I usually take (37-38" chest). As mentioned previously, I just need to get a little off the sleeve lengths to sharpen it up a bit more.

The buttons on the jacket are black and branded with "Connolly". They look a little different to the previous pictures I'd seen of the jacket, but it could be due to reflected lighting.

For me, sleeves length looks good and the MA trouser doesn't need to be tapered on you !!! Just my opinion :007)

And yes, buttons were different (and prettier to my taste) before...

I'm expecting my jacket shortly but disappointed to read and see the change in buttons. For me, black branded buttons cheapen the jacket. The original look like they had MOP contrast buttons as opposed to black!

Very unfortunate to hear that Connolly changed the buttons as I'd prefer the jacket to be screen accurate! Maybe it will be possible to get the correct buttons from Connolly flor a small fee.

thanks for the measurements, the buttons before got a more summer-feeling-look if you know what I mean, the dark/black ones reminds me of fall/winter-season, the pattern of the buttons matches better with the structure of the jacket (see pic) and like the the MA Duster it looks better when opened, more young, more sportive in my eyes. great jacket, won't regret it.

Paid £460 for the jacket they should have the correct buttons on in the first place!

I definitely agree and I'll be emailing Connolly tonight after work to get some answers!

    I just received a message from Connolly about the buttons;

'I just got a reply from the production team regarding the buttons. It is the same size and the latest batch of buttons is a fraction darker ( they are natural vero corno and the tone can vary between buttons)'.

I got the same reply from Connolly. The attached pictures showed buttons that are not black. If my buttons match those in the attached picstures I'll be happy.

How can you go from dull flecked horn buttons to black ones? I'm not convinced by their response. I think the production just thought horn buttons are horn, regardless of the colour difference and were not worried about SA for NTTD.

These look closer to the buttons used - https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=i0d5Xrn7N9WejLsP3r20oAk&q=32l+dull+horn+buttons&oq=32l+dull+horn+buttons&gs_l=mobile-gws-wiz-hp.3...1981.9317..9885...0.0..1.685.7660.0j7j2j3j4j5......0....1.......8..41j41i22i29i30j41i19j0i131j0j0i3j46j0i30j0i22i30j0i22i10i30j33i160j33i21j33i22i29i30.P0Zt76EYv60#imgrc=VSuuSo4yGd5tjM:

I agree with Steve's sentiment in that if the buttons are the same as the pictures I've received then there is nothing to worry about but if not......God help Connolly because they're going to get an ear full!

    GBP 423.33.

It's under $800 so it should be exempt from customs fees.

Jacket looks amazing. Certainly fits my style! Would have bought it right away if it hadn't been for the steep price increase.

You imply that the henley is the SA one. Which brand is it? It looks different from the Alfani one in your budget video, but maybe it's just the lighting.

No, just a different one from the Alfani. I think I have half dozen henleys now trying to get the right look.

David, great video as always. How would you describe the button colour - is it black or different horn colour?

I wanted to wait until David's vlog was up before posting these of my Connolly Giubbino Matera Jacket, so as not to steal any thunder, but here they are-

    Matera-i.jpg

    Matera-ii.jpg

    Matera-iii.jpg

    Matera-iv.jpg

    Matera-i-SIDE.jpg

    Matera-back.jpg

    Matera-toggle.jpg

    Matera-Pocket.jpg

And now a comparison with the Mango Frugal alternative-

    Matera-both.jpg

    Frugal-front.jpg

    Frugal-collar.jpg

    Frugal-pocket.jpg

    frugal-button.jpg

I'm wearing a medium, and definitely wouldn't have sized up. I have the same measurements as David, but obviously not as ripped! The jacket is extremely light, being unlined. The quality is fantastic. Sleeve length is a tad on the long side, so will need to be altered. But is it worth the massive price premium over the Mango jacket? Well, I have to say, mmmmmmm, maybe not. Unlike David, it is a style of jacket that I would wear in the Spring/Summer, but I also wear a lot of Henleys, which David wouldn't necessarily do. But, with a little tweaking, and if you don't feel you could buy the Connolly without really stretching the budget, I would say probably stick with the Mango. But for some, the Bond connection, plus the quality of the material and the fact that you could or would wear it out in the wild, then the pull will just be too great. And it would be a rare sight, too.

I was waiting to watch David’s Connolly jacket’s review video before making a decision (since he usually does the best representation wearing them).

I share David’s views while it’s a Cool jacket, I’m still not quite sure if it’s something I would be wearing.

I will keep an eye as I may Change my mind :))

The only way this jacket would work for me personally is to treat it as an Orlebar Brown linen top.

Now picture yourself in the Bahamas. From that angle I’d pair it with:
    - white or black V-neck Tee
    - slim linen pants : white, black, navy (blue jeans works too)

It suits the OB Oceanside lifestyle image much more for me.

One of the biggest reason the Connolly jacket was such a turn off to so many of us (ME INCLUDED) is the way the whole Matera outfit was put together.

It’s not a bad jacket, it’s just how you’d wear it. The boxy matera outfit certainly gives it that “Dad Bond” vibes as the previous member mentioned.

I just can’t justify the price point for the “very” limited island getaway lifestyle I’d be making.

I like it. The Craig series of films have been light on summer layers.

Bond may wear Harringtons and suede cafe racers in the heat of the day, but I can't. This casual linen-cotton jacket definitely fills a niche, no matter what else one wants to say about it.

(As opposed to the presumed Barbour X Engineered Garments jacket for instance. Yay, another blue jacket. Also Dad-ish.)

Love the review from TBE. I appreciate the honesty in that it’s ok to appreciate a piece while still considering if it’s something that could be wearable on a regular basis. I think it’s a nice different lightweight jacket with a retro cropped look to it. For me personally, the price tag makes it pretty easy to have to pass though. Has anyone had any luck with the mango alternative? Seems like it has been long gone for a while.

I find the Mango alternative much nicer...
The connelly jacket looks like a factory uniform.

Sizes L and upwards are currently in stock. They restocked a couple of weeks ago on Medium and Small as well but they went quite quickly.

    Thanks for the video David.

I have absolutely no regrets now baulking at Connolly’s exploitative price hike - I won’t miss not having this jacket one bit. The hugely less expensive Mango alternative will do me fine and even then I doubt I’ll wear that much.
