they often miss things or change details up...here's a short list of items that are 90% screen accurate:

    Billy Reid Peacoat
    Barbour Beacon Dept. B jacket
    Tom Ford quilted Solden jacket
    Tom Ford McQueen Cardigan
    Zara enjoying Death shirt
    Matchless Craig Blouson
    Now the Connolly Giubbino
and the Massimo Alba Rain2 coat

and that's just off the top of my head. If you like the design, go for it, but if you have to have 100% screen accuracy...
you have to accept that sometimes, it will just never be there

What were the differences with the BR peacoat and TF QoS cardigan? Can’t remember back that far.
The screen-used BR peacoat was 100% wool, the one they make now is 80% wool and 20% nylon.

It's now 8 years later though; the wool version was available for a while.

I would love for Billy Reid to release the wool version again but the change to 80/20 was more for longevity as the 100% wool version pilled a lot!

Ahh of course. I was thinking there must have been some difference in the design that I didn't know about.

brighten it up, at first I thought that the trousers has buttons and no zip to close, but the R&B "Daniel" has a zipper, so its maybe just a reflection which looks like a button

Is the collar also different in the latest version of the Billy Reid? Was the stitching always as visible? And has there always been a cross stitch across the leather?

As far as i know the collar is the same across all the variations with visible cross stitching on the collar but i've never seen one where the leather has stitching through it.

Not stitching sorry, but have there always been lines through the leather like this?

I have 3 Billy Reid peacoats and none of them have those lines through the leather but it appears that cuts in the collar leather are exclusive to the 80/20 black version. The navy version still has the smooth brown leather on the collar.

  • Looks like BR changed the Bond peacoat again.

The leather is matte instead of glossy now, and the fabric is now 90%wool 10%nylon

My original Billy Reid peacoat had shiny black leather that was cracked and when i exchanged it for an XL it was a matte brown which i preferred. Keep in mind Billy Reid has done a few different versions of the peacoat with different fabric contents (80% wool 20% Nylon, 90% virgin Wool 10% cashmere, 100% cashmere and 100% virgin wool) but the one you're thinking off is probably the navy herringbone version. Do you have a link for the 90/10 version?

I think the leather has been matte (oiled, almost nubuck-ish style) and the wool blended for at least a few seasons now, right?
    I edit, therefore I am.

it could be a button or a zipper, hard to tell.

Looks like a belt poking out from underneath the henley there also?

Has anyone else contacted MA so far regarding the Duster?
Have spoken to them today and can confirm it is different. This is what they said:

The pockets have been lowered and aligned to the second button, the lace from the neck has been removed, and only one button remains on the wrist.

I'm fine with that myself .. and still intend to buy one after this whole thing is over.

It’s nothing like the n peal jumper Situation IMO as that’s looks plain silly with the large patches.

In the current climate I am happy to support them .. I’m not sure how big they are if they can survive the current situation.

If someone had not pointed the differences out .. I would have been none the wiser.

I’m not making excuses but could the costume dept have brought the jacket which you have and then customised it themselves. This happened in all the earlier bond films as UA bikini in Dr No was a standard bra which they sewed fabric onto.

    Incorrect information, unfortunately.

I just received an e-mail from Alessandro, and he said the most he can do is include an extra button for you to put on the cuffs yourself. The old design is dead and gone, they are only offering their 2020 design with the small changes.

And this simple explanation is exactly what they should have put out prior to marketing this new version as the Bond movie coat and taking orders.

To be clear, I don’t have a problem with this „new design“ at all and never thought about returning it. But when a company is not 100% transparent, it just comes across as a bit too profit-focused.
The name is Walker by the way.

Now....is our Massimo Alba Winch pant the same as worn in the movie ????

The white bikini worn by Ursula Andress in the movie was sold by her at Christie's Auctions in London on February 14, 2001 for £35,000. It was purchased by Robert Earl of Planet Hollywood, and with commission and tax fees, the total was actually around £41,000. Before the auction, the bikini had been estimated to fetch £40,000. The bikini top originally was made from an underwire bra sold from a Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City. Costume designer Tessa Welborn ordered three of the bras, covering them in cotton, and refining the design. The belt seen in the movie was made from a white webbing Army belt, with brass fittings and a scabbard. After this movie's release, bikini swimwear sales skyrocketed.

This is proof the costume department’s do change clothing as seen in the bond movies.

Nobody is debating that the costume dept tinkers with costumes.

The NTTD coat is not that scenario though. It had been modified between seasons by the retailer not the costume dept

Does it suck it’s not SA, of course. But, some brands dont heavily rely on movie superfans. Should they? Well we’ve all seen that the bond community can definitely pump in some sales, but we are seeing this from a fan perspective. Unfortunately many high end designers have a thousand other things they are worried about. As I understand they should have made it clear, please dont turn this into the N Peal situation. They’ve been quite clear on their response to this one coat. Dont really want to see pages of grown men complain about something that has clearly already been decided, especially during a global pandemic. Get creative or return it.

Okay...but it’s not like they’ve completely avoided any Bond connection. The Duster is in MA’s “JB Special Edition” range, with a page that includes a drawing of the NTTD scene where it was worn. One could therefore assume that if they’re buying it from that page, like the Sloop suit and Winch pants, they’re going to be getting the same item, down to the little details, that Bond wore, not next season’s piece that is just inspired by the original.
  • JTMJTM Posts: 3,027MI6 Agent
MA have been pretty sneaky though. Their drawing of the duster coat in the DBS scene doesn’t look like the version worn in the movie, it’s looks like one they’re currently selling—see the what looks like a single button on the cuff. I could be wrong though.

Thats what im saying. Im not saying it makes it 100% ok but to them an updated version was more important than the older. They modified/updated for a reason beyond the fact that particular duster was picked to be worn in a movie a while ago. They probably thought they were making it better and overlooked the fact that there’s a percentage of fans that want the old version bc thats what Bond wore vs the fashion aspect to them its an item they were going to be updating anyways. When this stuff is chosen, many seasons pass until it’s actually on screen, meaning changes happen. Some brands are good with that (RGT), some just go on business as usual and if there is demand, then they fit it in. I definitely woulda wanted SA but at this point Im just saying its going to have to be understood that unfortunately they updated an existing item and they seem to be set on the fact that they arent going to be modifying manufacturing bc some ppl liked the older version. Im not debating that it is just one of those unfortunate things that happens from time to time on SA vs retail version etc. I do honestly understand the disappointment though.

I would sooner have a close enough version than no version at all. We would all be gutted if they didn’t re-release the jacket at all. No one forces us to buy it.. if we don’t like the changes then don’t buy it. I for one grateful that we can buy the coat and suit ... as not all manufacturers have re-released things in the past once they had a bond connection.
