I don’t think it is a stretch to presume that Bond is representative of a lot of things she and her husband have been very outspoken against. Namely a so-called white male patriarchy. Whether you agree with that characterization or not, many people on the fringes of the American left, where Beyoncé and Jay-Z firmly reside, have adopted that view.

Jay-Z is a well known fan of James Bond. Assuming someone is anti-male just because they vote for a different political party (presumably) than you and are stating the obvious fact that men have and has had more power in society than women is jumping to conclusions. We don't want to get into politics here, but I suggest we get rid of the "anti-male" and "anti-Bond" alligations right here and now".

Nobody said “anti-male.” It was “that sort of male character,” i.e. the one who was accused of being a misogynist in 2015 by the guy who has inhabited the role for the last 13 years. If you haven’t listened to any of Beyonce’s recent music, then you can be forgiven for not realizing that she has become very political. Attaching herself to Bond would be out of step.

Not a Beyonce fan myself but I'm sure she could belt out a Bond 25 title song. Everyone has their favorites to do the title song. There's probably some barely known pop singer/songwriter or band out there who could do an even better job than many of the big "names".
The days of the score composer having a huge say in the theme song ala John Barry appear to be long gone. It's not just EON, but the music business has changed also. I would think that doing a Bond title song is still a pretty big deal for some artists.

You're correct in reminding me nobody used the term "anti-male". I slipped up, my mistake. I don't see how I haven't really listened to her lyrics at any time of her career. I highly doubt her statements are far left. If her views were really far left in a country completely lacking a far left movement wirh any political power her career would be over. If her political views are supporting Democrat candidates and speaking out against male patriarchy it sounds very mainstream. About half the country votes Democrats and male power dominance is a fact of life all over the world, I don't think talking about that can be called extreme.

But that's not really a topic for this thread, and not one I introduced here. The key question is: can anyone here find a statement from Beyonce that supports the claim that she is "anti-Bond"?

OK. If it's fine by everyone else we can disregard the post that started this silliness. God, I hope we get some more news in the next week ….

Candidates for the two female roles or more locations should be realistic.

When do we think we can expect an official announcement? I think we should have something from eon by Easter at the latest.
It was either that.....or the priesthood

8-) I don't really think we'll get an official announcement from EON before the press conference. We might get what amounts to an official confirmation before that, such as crew members or other actors spilling the beans. I'll be simultaneously surprised, impressed and irritated if they manage to hide the names of the main cast members and locations until the press conference at the beginning of March.

I think we'll get a location that's very different from Norway and/or Arctic Canada, such as North Africa or a major city.

I counted five nominations for Lady Gaga this year. Beyonce (and Jay-Z) has three. Dua Lipa has two, so has Diana Krall and Arctic Monkies.

Lady Gaga has exelent chances. Dua Lipa was the second most streamed female artist last year, Taylor Swift was on number four.

I'm sure some else has found this information before me, but it's a slow night ...

I can't remember how it went for the past few films, has the press conference been streamed live or anything like that? Or has it only been available to watch after?

It was webcast, streamed live for Spectre. I'd imagine they'll do the same again.

It's difficult to judge who has sold or streamed the most as English language media are split between UK and US charts, for singles, albums and steaming services. A lot of streaming stories are about Spotify, but there must be other streaming services.

Ed Sheeran is the top streamed artist according to this Spotify data.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most-streamed_songs_on_Spotify

    US publication Billboard puts Sheeran 5th for year-end streamed artists, Drake is first. It doesn't say 2018, but one assumes it is;
    https://www.billboard.com/charts/year-end/2018/streaming-songs-artists

BTW Adele is not even in the top five most streamed female artists worldwide.
    https://www.independent.ie/style/celebrity/celebrity-news/adele-tops-list-of-uks-most-streamed-female-artists-36682224.html

Drake also beats Sheeran in the Billboard charts list, one assumes that is album charts.
    https://www.billboard.com/charts/year-end/2018/top-artists

But, Sheeran is the top radio play artist.
    https://www.billboard.com/charts/year-end/2018/radio-songs

If you look at all the people that have sung Bond themes, out of the 23 films that have had singers (Dr No and OHMSS only instrumental themes) - Adele, Sam Smith, Jack White & Alicia Keyes, Chris Cornell, Madonna, Garbage, Sheryl Crow, Tina Turner, Gladys Knight, A-ha, Duran Duran, Rita Coolidge, Sheena Eastern, Shirley Bassey, Carly Simon, Lulu, Wings (Paul McCartney), Shirley Bassey, Nancy Sinatra, Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, and Matt Monro.

For 15 of the 22 films with a singer, a woman has sung the theme, this is including Alicia Keyes and three films by Bassey.
There have only been nine British artists sing Bond themes, for 11 films, with Bassey's three.
There have only been three bands, Wings, A-ha and Duran Duran. Two British and one Norwegian.
Ten of the Bond films have had 11 US artists.

So, it is evenly split between US and British acts, but I think those British acts were chosen because they were popular in the USA. Tom Jones, Paul McCartney were big names in the US in the 1960s. I don't know about Shirley Bassey. Sheena Eastern had had a big hit and went on to work with Prince. Duran Duran were big stateside.

The US must be the biggest single market for Bond movie ticket sales, so I think the theme singers are used for the marketing. The Grammys are televised so it's no surprise that recent Bond movies have all had Grammy winners. Of the Brosnan movies, only Garbage had not had Grammy wins.

So, I think we can see that a typical Bond theme singer is, more likely to be female, a Grammy winner, has very high recent album sales (and streaming these days), and probably going to be American.

    Rami Malik teases Bond role...
    https://www.etonline.com/rami-malek-and-christian-slater-tease-very-very-climatic-ending-to-mr-robot-exclusive-116667

Of course, it helps publicise his TV show.

Malik has played lots of roles that are not Arabic so I wouldn't assume the villain was North African even if this was true.

He looks a bit young to me as a lead villain.

As a typical Bond theme singer is, more likely to be female, a recent multi-Grammy winner, has very high recent album sales (and streaming these days), and probably going to be American, I think candidates can be identified.

I haven't included artists that are not American, have not already won a Grammy, and whose music style is very diferent to the pop/rock/ballad approach that typifies Bond themes. So, Adele, Dua Lipa, Beyonce, and Ariana Grande are not included. Last year's Grammy winners do not fit the above descripton so there are no candidates there. For DC's films, only Cornell did not have a Grammy win the year before his Bond movie came out.

    The nominees for this year, 2019, that fit the description, include;
    Taylor Swift
    Pink

    Taylor Swift
    10 Grammys.
    https://www.grammy.com/grammys/artists/taylor-swift
Taylor Swift had the biggest album of 2018.
    https://www.billboard.com/hub/year-in-music-2018
Nominated for 2019 Grammys for best pop vocal album, Reputation
    https://www.vulture.com/2018/12/2019-grammy-nominations-complete-list.html
Reputation (2018) has sold more than 2 million copies.
    https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/taylor-swift-reputation-two-million-album-sales-adele-25-ed-sheeran-buy-a8271911.html

    Pink
    3 Grammys
    https://www.grammy.com/grammys/artists/pnk
Nominated for 2019 Grammys for best pop vocal album, Beautiful Trauma
    https://www.vulture.com/2018/12/2019-grammy-nominations-complete-list.html
Beautiful Trauma (2017) sold 1.8 million worldwide

You're right. Some us, including me, believed the villan is North African because of Rami Malik and the Saïd Taghmaoui story. But Taghmaouihas himself debunked that story, so we only have Malik. That's not enough basis to assume the villan is North African.

You could certainly have a younger villain. A young deranged genius. Malik does unhinged and "off" very well. Malik would need good henchman as he is not very physically imposing....but IMO, it's not absolutely necessary for Bond to have a knock down drag out fight with the villain. That being said, bat sh_t crazy can make up for physical prowess. The other possibility is that Malik's character is not the main or primary villain. No issue here with Malik as a Bond villain.

Would Malik have said he won't be a Bond villan if his chances were over because of scheduling? Did he play along to get more publicity for Mr Robot and himself? Regardless of the reason I'm pretty sure he was at some point in negotiations with EON.

Yes, that's what I hope - he's cast or in negotiations, but he isn't allowed to confirm it.
I'd also like to think pretending to be considered and not actually being considered will blockhim for ever working with EON.
