The SPECTRE presser was hollow because we knew everything they said beforehand, not because of the quality of the movie. Of course they can give us the information wihout holding a presser, but a press conference gets more media interest than a twitter message.
Having a press conference is not about releasing information. It's about releasing video that can get the word out in other formats other than written ones.

Sometimes a press conference is about information, but in the case of Bond 25 the main purpose will be for some widespread positive hype about the film.

But again, a good teaser with actual footage is much more effective at generating hype. I think only hardcore fans like us pay attention to the press conferences. For example, I am a casual fan of other frenchises like Star Wars and some of the Marvel stuff. I couldn’t even tell you if they do press conferences when filming starts. If they don’t, it’s a pretty good indication that it’s unnecessary. If they do, casual fans obviously don’t pay much attention.

We are the only ones who pay attention to the actual press conference, but the footage of the press conference that plays on many outlets are invaluable to generate hype.

The press conference is not for the casual fans to stream online. It's for the press, and the casual fans pay attention to the press. The press conference is so newspapers, magazines, television, all sorts of websites and social media accounts will share the news. Sure, EON could sent out a press release or even just a tweet, but a press conference is more effective because it involves the press directly. A teaser comes much later when there is actually some footage to share. At this point, a press conference is the most powerful thing they can offer, and people need to be prepared for the film. It will make the film a bigger event by the time it is released if they are looking forward to it a year in advance rather than six months in advance when a teaser might be released.
Great info there Matt. I think press conferences are fantastic events for upcoming Bond films. While the all the news announced at them could easily be released via a press release or even just a tweet, the conferences bring with them a bit of spectacle that can drum up a lot more interest/hype than a simple studio release could ever do. Especially when you've got something like the unveiling of a one off Aston Martin to go with it.

Yeah, bearing in mind there's nothing much more to it than the announcement of a film several months away, I'm always amazed when the Bond press conferences make the front pages of the papers: they always do in the UK. It'll happen again this time so it's well worth doing.
Lovely looking family. I would guess the pictures were taken right before DC headed off to Europe based upon the heavier winter outerwear.
With near freezing temperatures for much of the past week in New York, heavy winter wear could have meant sooner than a week ago. But you’re probably right that the photos are older.
Looking back at Skyfall and Spectre, we got a first image, 71 days after Skyfall's 3 November start of filming and Spectre's first photo was also released 71 days after the 3 December start of filming, on 12 February 2015.
That would equate to 4 June for Bond25, with a 25 March start of filming, but I suspect we'll get an image with the late April press conference/press release.

I must say I appreciate how well researched and thorough you are.

This tweet appears to show another venture outside by the Craig family with different winter clothes to those seen in the Daily Mail pics. The weather in NY was less than 10 degrees Celsius on the 5th, but as high as 20 degrees on the 3rd. The 1 April it as below 10. In the photos they're not wearing gloves, so it could not have been that cold. https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/new-york-ny/10007/april-weather/349727?monyr=4/1/2019
Anywho it does appear DC is still in NY. I'm beginning to think Ralph Fiennes was right when he said May. But the press conference could be at the end of April.
Those twitter pics are ones nicked from the press (I was forwarded them over weekend) and I assumed taken before he was pictured departing NYC. Believe the website once again dates them as “recently”
I presume he is in UK but guess we need more pics -{
Does anyone else find themself more excited for Bond 26 than Bond 25? I’m sure I’ll feel differently if / when Bond 25 picks up some positive momentum.

I've never been excited about another Craig film. I've enjoyed all his movies but felt Spectre ended on a fine note and have always wanted to move onto something new.

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!

Of course a teaser generates hype but why pass up more hype? It tells the audience that Bond is not just another action film. It's an EVENT.

That production photo, if that's what it was, makes it look like the title should be The Phantom of The Opera...

And Jaguar Land Rover cars apparently to be back for Bond25. This may just be the government cars M gets driven round in.

Some of the comments are funny.
That's about 2 months old. It was posted back in Feb here...

Sure why not
DC was supposedly flying out of NY on 30 March, then we had the Daily Mail pics on 5 April, but then this fan tweeted these pics on 6 April.
