“As for 2020, we could not be more excited about the film slate. It’s a Bond year. We will soon commence production on Bond 25, directed by Cary Fukunaga of True Detective fame. And as we recently announced we have secured a strong pre-Easter 2020 date for the film.”

Frustrating as it is, I'm hoping we're looking at the light at the end of the pre-production tunnel and in just two weeks time (as painful as that is) the five month wait, which we have had since the previous Boyle-linked December 2018 filming start date, will be over. OVER!

Thanks for that. While the message/news is certainly meant to shine a positive light for investors, it does appear that MGM is in pretty good shape these days unlike many times in the past where they were on the brink of financial collapse which of course was not good for EON and Bond. From what I have read, MGM has had a lot of recent success in TV production. It's nice to see however that Bond is still king at MGM. The news of the Russo brothers (of Marvel fame) joining MGM is a pretty big deal. I was surprised however that there was no mention of the return of the UA banner/brand which will be a nice bit of nostalgia for us older Bond fans. The UA logo and then the gun barrel walk before the PTS would be a cool way to start Bond 25.
As for the article's claim that Phoebe Waller-Bridge has worked on the script, from the Fleabag clips I've seen on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=fleabag) her stock in trade seems to be, what might be called female friendly saucy banter. That's one way of updating Bond for #metoo, just have the, "as long as the collars and cuffs match," like comments come from a woman.

Hopefully this isn't true. Why can't Bond movies just have an evil villan who needs to be stopped, like In most Bond films of the past?
It works for Mission Impossible.

I just want to see a good film without being bombarded by PC stuff constantly. For the most part it’s usually forced and takes you out of the film somewhat. And it’s rarely successful unless the film is specifically written for that audience, and even then (Ghosbusters) it can alienate moviegoers. Bond films certainly aren’t in that category.
There were rumors going back some time ago that there was a role for a young female MI6 agent that Bond would mentor, so it not surprising. The number thing seems much less plausible.

Seems alright to me; I don't mind the number thing at all. The 'Bond retiring to Jamaica' thing seems very plausible, although perhaps a little similar to Skyfall.
Describing the writer of Killing Eve as being just a trader in 'saucy banter' seems extremely reductive to me. She's a fantastic talent: I hope the stories are true.
Please make it not true. Just stick to what works. Here's an idea..... think about Casino Royale for inspiration, which had a great story, wonderful locations, top notch acting and chemistry and voila... you have a winner. Really no need to over complicate it -{

Casino Royale was really quite different to all of the Bond films before it: he doesn't even really win at the end. Citing it as an example of 'just sticking to what works' seems slightly bizarre to me. It's an example of not sticking just to what works, and finding brilliance in the results.
The UK newspaper The Guardian is reporting that its sister publication The Observer is also claiming that Waller-Bridge worked on the Bond25 script and it seems to be an independent 'confirmation' of the Daily Mail story.
I don't think there's little reason to jump to the consclusion there will be much PC elements here. Strong female characters with witty lines is an old movie (and Bond) tradition and it's simply good movie making. I don't like the part about the mentor taking over the 007 number, but that would've been a bad idea regardless of the gender of the agent.
It sounds like a story I’d like to see. Better than another evil genius living in a fake volcano. And what emtiem said is right on: Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a real talent. And imagine if Bond’s home on Jamaica was the actual Goldeneye? Who wouldn’t love that?
If it's true then my worst nightmares have come to take place on the screen in my favourite franchise. Quite possibly the worst idea in the history of Bond films. I'd rather see Bond surf a cgi tsunami again then surf a tsunami of kneejerk #metoo political correctness. Rubbish.

Bond often doesn't "win" in the of the books. His wife dies at the end of OHMSS, he'd dying at the end of FRWL, he's suffered a head injury and lost his memory at the end of YOLT, he's hospitalized at the end of TMWTGG and TB. He's rejected by the girl at the end of MR and DAF.
The physically and emotionally indestructible Bond was an invention of Saltzman and Broccoli.

Is this new film going to be called The Spy Who Loved MeToo?

I'm talking about the films. In fact, we're all talking about the films in here!
If your point is that the film of Casino Royale is a totally typical example of the films because it's like some of the books, then I'm not quite sure of your logic

Because there's a woman in it?!
What's going on in this thread?
Given the tone of the article I think it's understandable that people are worried.
I'm worried too.
Some people like to watch movies to ESCAPE the political stuff in life, and this article really does scream PC crap. Of course we don't know until we see the film, but I am worried.
Oh well, I'm hoping "The Property Of A Lady" will finally be used as a title from this.

No, it’s because we are fed up with being force fed PC rubbish that is now being shoehorned into everything with no other reason other than virtue signalling. Making 007 a woman would be pandering to the recent trend of a vocal minority that want the next James Bond to be a woman.
I can picture the new introduction line opposed to: „The name‘s Bond...James Bond.“
From now on it will be: „I'm a Catholic whore, currently enjoying congress out of wedlock with my black Jewish boyfriend who works at a military abortion clinic. Hail Satan, and have a lovely afternoon.“
(probs to Kingsman)
But seriously, I wouldn’t mind a woman. It‘s just that the idea is bonkers to begin with. All a lot of fans want is a straight forward adventure with Bond being himself on a given assignment and no psychological trauma bullshit and personal ties.
Is it so hard?
P.S.: As a defender of DAD, I can see a lot of people wishing those times back... )

You come from England; presumably you know what the Daily Mail tries to do? Never take the tone of their articles to mean the truth. Just having a female character in a Bond film does not mean they're going to be saying 'me too' all the time: there are always women in Bond films, usually strong women. There's nothing overly 'PC" about that; it's ridiculous to claim otherwise.

I've added the italics to highlight the key words, 'soon commence'. I think this is further confirmation that we're looking at an end of April, beginning of May filming start after Italian media (https://corrieredelmezzogiorno.corriere.it/bari/spettacoli/19_aprile_10/matera-cary-fukunaga-sassi-regista-visita-set-james-bond-bedeec76-5bc7-11e9-9c30-3b23e59d03ab.shtml) reported that Fukunaga is in Italy to at least Sunday (14 April) and now this MGM investors info.

Please watch out for cast n crew being flown to Jamaica in about a couple of weeks. That's when the press conference will happen.
