Raymond Benson strongly hinted that Bond had bought Goldeneye, though he renamed it "Shamelady".

If Bond 25 does start out with Bond retired, it will be interesting to see what the circumstance of his return to service is. Do we get an OHMSS like death of Madeleine in the PTS and then fast forward a few years later to the widowed Bond living in retirement in the islands? Is he called back by MI6? Does the call back to service morph from a simple mentor/training role to full "00" status as some extreme event unfolds? Is he thrust back into service due to the past coming back as a threat? Jeez, it's nice to be back guessing hypothetical plot points that will probably end up being completely off the mark than the previous mess instigated by the Daily Mail silliness. :)

I never felt that the end of Spectre was Bond leaving the service, just that he was not going to kill Blofeld. He was able to walk into Q branch, after all...

As trade paper Variety is reporting that filming begins at the end of April and next week is basically the end of April, it's not a huge call to make.

As all the other DC press conferences have been Wed-Fri, and next week, the Friday is the 26 April, if there is a press conference, that's a good candidate date.

Must be close now - the leaked filming in Norway shows things are kicking off (slowly)

If the press conference really is in Jamaica (particularly Goldeneye Resort) the excitement levels will soon hit the roof.

Agree all these stupid Daily Mail type rumours and gossip gets dreary and best to avoid as some of it really is bullbullshite

The problem with Goldeneye though is that it’s not all that amazing a house. To be honest I would prefer if they used somewhere that they thought looked better rather than worry about any significance, but if they can make it work then sure.

Agreed about the rumours but the Mail know how to stoke up the angers of a certain section of the audience.
But the actual house is just one part of a luxury hotel complex, it works for me.

Is it? Is it nicer now?
Has Bond been to Jamaica since Dr No? I’m trying to remember another visit.

Of course, anyone can put one and one together at this point. However, there are very few members whose word (without a source) I take over whatever trade paper. This chap being one of them, as he is in the know.

Not really much point in keeping a press conference secret you’d imagine!

Q's surprise at Bond showing up at the end of the service indicated to me that he left the series. Bond has no problem walking into any place he desires.

Live and Let Die was filmed in Jamaica, but it was for the fictional San Monique.

Yes, plus he calls him ‘Bond’: not 007.

I didn’t realise it was shot there. Funny as that’s really the only one I considered (probably due to Quarrel) but dismissed it because of Sam Monique!

What is that proof of - Q calls him "Bond" in Skyfall, too...

I guess its subjective, as I never got the vibe he was leaving for good. Bond could have been on leave following the whole affair, so Q wasn't expecting to see him. Where I agree he can go where he wants (as he proved when he managed to 'borrow' the DB10 from Q), its too far fetched for Q just to let an ex-employee take a government vehicle, the DB5, especially with Bonds track record!

I get the feeling SM, EON and the writers left the ending ambiguous, as DC hadn't decided if he would return or not. The fact we see the ending differently suggests the plan worked

It is heavily hinted by Madeleine both in the train, 'Ever thought about quitting?', and then back in London, 'I can't be part of this lifestyle,' that if he were to stay with her he'd have to give it up, and that Bond tossing his gun into the Thames showed who he chose.

Furthermore, Q saying 'I thought you'd gone', means either a) he quit, or b) he'd left on Holiday. But obviously some time has passed because the DB5 was totaled, so B isn't possible as Holidays are only a couple weeks at most. I figure he broke into Q branch several months later.

So I hope this is sufficient proof that Bond did in fact quit.
  • Arbogast777Arbogast777 Minneapolis Posts: 252MI6 Agent
For me personally I think he was only going on holiday because if he were quitting I think Mendes would have made a much bigger deal about it (a goodbye and thanks to Q, M, and MP, raise a glass to Dench, etc).

BUT at best I think it was purposely kept vague to allow Bond 25 more flexibility about what direction it wanted to go. A definite quitting the service, though? I just don't think it was meant to be that final.

At the end of the day it's really a moot point because he also quit at the end of CR and that was done away with in about 5 seconds...

Agreed it was just a soft exit in case Craig didn't want to come back. There's really no need to carry it on in Bond 25 ie, having him retired, because the ending of the film was only suggestive. You could easily just carry on as per usual for the next film. However it seems that they are doubling down and continuing with a direct sequel

I agree it could play both ways. There’s room for interpretation. Either way I think we’ll get a conclusive answer.

So you're telling me that there's a chance that we'll get Avengers Endgame and Bond 25 press conference ON THE SAME DAY?

And the next Game of Thrones episode ON THE SAME WEEKEND?!

    Oh, man.
    Yes. Consssssiderably.

Okay: he’s 007; no one else can ever be 007, has ever been 007, and he can never give it up.

I am guessing at a Thursday 25 April press conference with filming starting that day or on Friday 26 April. So, that is 349 days between the press conference/photo call and the 8 April 2020 USA release date.

It's more days than Spectre and Quantum, but fewer days than Casino and Skyfall. I recognise that there is no guarantee in quality with these numbers of days but the more post-production time they have, the more confident I am about the soundtrack. I think Spectre had a compressed post period and it shows in the Newman soundtrack, the PTS score, great, most of the rest of the film, a rehash of his Skyfall score.

Yeah your right - it really is utter crap, the kids should have more taste :))

I watched Iron Man the other day which was fun and very well done to an extent - what happened since lol?

Anyhow back on topic - hopefully we see DC and co boarding a plane to Jamaica soon if the press conference really is there!!

PS - just realised im a hypocrite. Remembered I absolutely loved Wonder Woman, however I don't think that was because of the film itself :D

I enjoy some superhero movies, such as Wonder Woman, Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy, Deadpool and Nolan's Batman films. But there are far too many of them and they suck the oxygen from the market. It's hard finding a movie for adults at the cinema, it's all kid's movies and kids' movies
  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,949MI6 Agent
I'm not a massive Marvel or superhero movie fan (although I end up seeing most of them), but there is a certainly irony to James Bond fans claiming they make too many superhero movies /they're a bit samey :))

Someone'll be along in a minute to claim that the blessed 'formula' is essential and mustn't be touched ;)
