    The synopsis says:
"Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology."

Well, only if we ignore the sentence construction! They say the mission 'turns out' to be treacherous, not that the help requested turns into a rescue mission. It's clear from the way it's written that the rescue mission is what Felix is asking for help with; whether or not the press release turns out to be written accurately we'll have to see! :)

Below are the synopses for DC's films. It's clear from these that the style of such synopsis is not to be a correct chronological description of events in the film.

    Spectre
A cryptic message from the past leads James Bond (Daniel Craig) to Mexico City and Rome, where he meets the beautiful widow (Monica Bellucci) of an infamous criminal. After infiltrating a secret meeting, 007 uncovers the existence of the sinister organization SPECTRE. Needing the help of the daughter of an old nemesis, he embarks on a mission to find her. As Bond ventures toward the heart of SPECTRE, he discovers a chilling connection between himself and the enemy (Christoph Waltz) he seeks.

    Skyfall
When James Bond's (Daniel Craig) latest assignment goes terribly wrong, it leads to a calamitous turn of events: Undercover agents around the world are exposed, and MI6 is attacked, forcing M (Judi Dench) to relocate the agency. With MI6 now compromised inside and out, M turns to the one man she can trust: Bond. Aided only by a field agent (Naomie Harris), Bond takes to the shadows and follows a trail to Silva (Javier Bardem), a man from M's past who wants to settle an old score.

    Quantum of Solace
Following the death of Vesper Lynd, James Bond (Daniel Craig) makes his next mission personal. The hunt for those who blackmailed his lover leads him to ruthless businessman Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a key player in the organization which coerced Vesper. Bond learns that Greene is plotting to gain total control of a vital natural resource, and he must navigate a minefield of danger and treachery to foil the plan.

    Casino Royale
After receiving a license to kill, British Secret Service agent James Bond (Daniel Craig) heads to Madagascar, where he uncovers a link to Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen), a man who finances terrorist organizations. Learning that Le Chiffre plans to raise money in a high-stakes poker game, MI6 sends Bond to play against him, gambling that their newest "00" operative will topple the man's organization.

For Spectre it is not true that Bond goes to find Mr White's daughter immediately after the Rome meeting.

For Skyfall it is not true that M turns to the one man she can trust, Bond comes back from the dead. It is also not true he is aided by Moneypenny as he follows the trail to Silva, she is only present in Macao.

For Quantum, the synopsis completely omits how money from a dead double-agent, Mitchell, sends Bond to Haiti before he finally encounters Greene in Austria.

For Casino Royale, it is not true that the link he finds in Madagascar, the phone with the code word Ellipsis, leads directly to the poker game. If the synopsis were chronologically accurate it would also refer to the Bahamas and Miami.

So, for these reasons, we can't assume that the rescue mission is what Leiter is asking help for. To compare that with Spectre, its synopsis could have been, 'After a meeting in Rome, Bond must rescue a former nemesis' daughter'. But, that misses out everything to do with Mr White. And for Bond25, we can't know what occurs between Leiter's request and the scientist rescue mission.

Seems to me there are some similarities with the plot synopsis of Bond 25 and the Gardner continuation. Nuclear scientist, Bond not on active duty, crazy terrorist type!
And with some scenes confirmed to be filmed in London, that could mean Bond heading back to Mi6 to get his licence renewed, oh and pick up the electric Aston Martin!
It was either that.....or the priesthood

I'm not going to see the film now because that boat has spoiled it. Entire plot ruined. :D

Being vaguely more serious - I think the plot outline sounds rather good. My guess is when you cast someone like Rami Malek he's gonna be a creepy villain with some crazy plan for world domination. Okay, perhaps not world domination, Eon seem to have moved away from the Roger Moore Bond type villains - but if he (Malek) has a bit of the Max Zorin crazy vibe - I'm all for it. ;)

With Bond not on active service at the beginning perhaps the PTS will focus on the villains doing something.

It could be the kidnapping of the scientist.

I notice that Wikipedia now lists for Bond 25's screenplay: Danny Boyle, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Ian Fleming, John Hodge, Scott Z. Burns, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.

I remain hopeful but not optimistic.

That is a lot, however, we don’t really know the extent of each contribution. My guess is Burns cleaned up the plot and Waller-Bridge improved the dialogue. It could work on both fronts, as Purvis and Wade are not so skilled in either area.

Danny Boyle is still listed? I wonder if that's correct.

I think the Nine News Australia interviews from the press event in Jamaica was better than the origional one:

Thanks for posting the links to those interviews.

I have to say, I also think that both pieces were far superior to all the other stuff. Everybody from the cast, etc appeared much more relaxed and while they really didn't give away much there were a few tidbits that could be important.
I could be wrong but from what Lashana Lynch said, it is possible that she may be in a similar role as Martine Beswick as Paula in TB, an MI6 agent stationed in Jamaica who is also a native Jamaican.
Michael G. Wilson's description of the film starting off with Bond enjoying life in the islands on his boat and things getting very dicey from there along with Fukunagas' comments that the action scenes, while still reflecting the Bond tradition would be fraught with suspense and danger gives me hope for something special.
Knowing Fukunaga's penchant for dark, noirish stories, and the fact that they brought Waller-Bridge allegedly to add some humor, I wonder how dark the script was ?
  • Miles MesservyMiles Messervy Posts: 1,772MI6 Agent
Perhaps if Waller-Bridge is as witty as she has been billed, then we’ll get some gallows humor in the classic Bond tradition as opposed to the groan-worthy stuff of more recent times (sorry, but I’m looking at you Pierce). Sounds like that would also be more fitting for the tone of this film (and all of Craig’s films) than the attempted gags in Spectre, which all fell flat.

No, those synopses aren't from the press launches, which is what we're discussing. For example, the Skyfall one given at its launch in November 2011 was:
'Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.'
    https://www.jamesbondlifestyle.com/news/skyfall-bond-23-official-press-release
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-15579556

I'm actually not sure about your nitpciks either. He does find White's daughter after Rome (the synopsis doesn't claim it to be immediate- that's your reading of it); M does turn to Bond in Skyfall and Moneypenny does accompany him, if only for part of it; in Casino he does find a link in Madagascar which leads him to Le Chiffre- it doesn't claim it leads directly to him.
You're criticising them for leaving out more details than you're looking for- they're not factually incorrect, just not detailed.

Well they purpose built the db10 exclusively for Spectre, so I don't think limited numbers are an issue, but I mentioned it as a tongue in cheek aside.

Wasn‘t it already widely reported that Bond will get an electric Aston, or was that just the usual speculations after Aston Martin has revealed this particular car?

I remember headlines like „Bond goes electric“ etc.
