Very sad, I would have seen NTTD by now. Was hoping for the producers releasing sth special for this original release date (like they did with the song on Feb 14), but chances are looking slim right now...

I definitely agree with that. Limited "prestige" engagements might be the future of theatergoing, honestly.

That could be the future of cinema going as they compete with bigger and better home screens.
I would miss the real theater experience myself, especially for Bond.
Certainly for NTTD, things remain fluid and dependent upon theaters being able to safely open.

I wonder if an IMAX only "Extended Cut" could be in the cards if NTTD has to resort to streaming first and an IMAX only run at a later date.
I could imagine the promos "exclusive IMAX only extended cut....see NTTD as it was intended filmed with IMAX cameras on the giant IMAX screen....more picture, more sound, more immersive, more Bond".

I don’t need ‘proof’ that he didn’t write it. I said it wasn’t a collaboration. But they were communicating and had involvement together:

Eh, yes, if you state something I think you need proof. I know we live in Trumpian times where truth and facts don't matter but I'd hope that AJB was still a place where people need to prove the factual accuracy of their statements. Why not declare Goldfinger a woman?
hence the song being referenced throughout the score- if you think that’s incorrect just try listening to it.

The song isn't referenced IMHO. If anyone can point to a place in the score where it is referenced (and the song being on the soundtrack album doesn't count) please refer to a time stamp in the film or one of the cues on the soundtrack. Thanks.

I think adults should be grown up enough to admit when they're wrong.

Just to go back to this from January for a moment, and to see if adults are indeed grown up enough to admit when they're wrong, you can hear David Arnold himself saying the track he's playing at this point ('Time To Get Out' from QoS) "uses some of Jack's piano figures in the score", just after how he's talked about having conversations with Jack White at the time, at around 41mins in:

It looks like The King’s Man may be put back again, to February next year now. If this happens, there’s a good chance Bond may be put back too.

Well and pointing out a great radio show broadcast yesterday which fans of Bond music should give a listen! :)

I'm not so low on energy that copying and pasting a link took it out of me :D I wouldn't normally bring it back, but Someone's attitude, I'm sure you'll agree, rather asked for that!

Emtiem you are so grown up you deserve a juice box.

Indeed. Simply reading through the earlier/original message it is clear that the comments from David Arnold show that I am not wrong. Interestingly, at the time, another AJB user sent me a private message about part of the AWTD theme allegedly being used in a music cue when Bond seduces Fields in his hotel room. I disagreed. We can see from Emtiem's message that Arnold says it is 'Get Out' where he, "uses some of Jack's piano figures in the score". So I was right and that other AJB user was wrong. I would add that I couldn't get the playback of the Scala radio David Arnold thing to work, so Emtiem might still be mistaken and he is misquoting Arnold.

This will be my only response on this subject, no one wants to hear anymore on the topic.

Just because he uses the main theme in 'Time To Get Out' doesn't mean he doesn't use it elsewhere in the score. Just because I ate toast for lunch today doesn't mean that I didn't also eat toast for breakfast.

The flag is so high it's unlikely to be in the shot that includes Bond and the Land Rover.

I'm receiving PMs about the direction this thread has taken... again. So, it's closed for a while (there isn't much NTTD action, anyway) and if anyone wants to explore the wonderful world of our PM system to continue the above argument, go ahead and get it out of your system.
When we re-open the thread, I hope we can return to what passes for normal round here.

The Bond stunt crew were specifically looking for a female driver for NTTD, says racing driver and stunt woman, Jess Hawkins in an interview published today.

Apparently the director of No Time to Die thought the same thing as many here and on youtube about the Spectre torture scene.

    https://collider.com/no-time-to-die-inside-james-bonds-head-idea-cary-fukunaga/

I always hated the idea of the imagined escape. Even though Spectre's ending isn't that good. You need to have good writers and a director carefully planning a movie to make the imagined sequence work. I think there are only a few movies that are really good with the dream stuff. Most seem to be fairly poor using it.

The full interview here along with a bit of information about the director and his Bond experience that has me concerned.

    https://www.interviewmagazine.com/film/cary-fukunaga-miranda-july-spring-issue-2020

They just need to let Christopher Nolan make a series of three movies after this. He's the guy that obviously likes all the Bond movies. Maybe the books as well, although I haven't read an interview where he mentions the Bond books yet.

Before this goes off the rails, Fukunaga says it's an idea he had, not where they went in the film.

Nolan is not going to save this franchise. Nolan would give you the incel fanboy version of Bond you didn't know you didn't want. (Name one sexy scene Nolan has ever done. One.)

Bond needs journeymen directors, meat and potatoes guys who can deliver reliable populist entertainment with grace notes of "new and different." There's a reason Casino Royale is still held as Craig's best. That said, I'm grateful for this weird "auteur" era of Bond, with its only *real* misstep being going back to a guy (Mendes) who'd already given his all in the previous film.
  • HowardBHowardB USAPosts: 2,755MI6 Agent
IMO it's a just "ok" interview done by someone who admits to never even seeing a Bond film. Nothing Fukunaga said put up any red flags for me. I think he was pretty candid about some of the challenges of having to step in to such a difficult situation. It does appear that Fukunaga is a pretty self aware type of personality and that he was able to get on well with the producers and Craig.
With regards to Nolan as a Bond director: IMO, it's one thing to be influenced to a certain degree or including a sequence that's an "homage" to your favorite Bond film and another to make a Bond film / steward an iconic franchise.

This is 100% correct. Whenever they get around to rebooting, I hope they go in that direction and break with the art house stuff. It’s not that it hasn’t worked, but rather, that it’s starting to feel tiresome.

I've said the same thing before. Nolan's characters seem to have no libido.

Make no mistake, I'm a fan of (most of) his films. But his take is always the deep dive into motivation. People have complained loudly here for years about how everything is personal for Craig's Bond.

Nolan might surprise, but I'd expect him to want to go the same route, as he did with his Batman films.

No reason for anything to go off the rails. But he did pitch the idea. Even though they aren't using it. And I had to look up what "incel" meant. I would doubt something like that happening.

What worried me was when he mentioned Casino Royale and playing the Goldeneye video game. It just makes me worried that an action movie is coming with a so so plot. That old stuff will be thrown in because the audience wants to see it. Not because it should be there. Like the DB5 scene in Skyfall. And possibly now Dalton's Aston scene in No Time to Die.

But I keep hearing that his detective show is real good. So perhaps he'll make a good Bond movie where Bond has to figure something out.

If anything with Skyfall, the Bond series used Nolan's Batman as influence. I don't think Nolan would go that route for Bond. I would bet that it would be more classic given the scenes that he has in his movies. Off the top of my head right now I remember From Russia With Love and of course On Her Majesty's Secret Service homage scenes.

I would imagine that he would start with the origin of Bond as I believe he said he wanted a fresh start. If it's modern day or even past, I would think he would show Bond in some war conflict. And build up the world of Bond over a few movies. It would be really exotic too with big locations.

But sadly, they can't really do Spectre anymore or another big group since it's been kind of ruined with these recent movies. It's just so sloppy, I wouldn't think a director would want to make a big hidden group villain again even if it would be easy to make it better.

Maybe the final film of a Nolan trilogy could be a some group that has knowledge of Bond's activities at the end. But wasn't plotting anything against him. Kind of like how some of the villains in Roger Moore's movies know who his is.

Anne Hathaway is hot in Dark Knight Rises. Also, I would add that I liked Marion Cotillard's introduction scene in Inception. And I would think that Elizabeth Debicki will be great in Tenet.
