Xi Jinping has made himself leader of China for life, making him perhaps the most powerful leader in the country since Mao. Trump said this is great and wondered if this was a good idea for the US. If any other US president had said the same we would have assumed it was a joke. But Trump has as a rule showed more admiration for authoritarian leaders than the democratically elected ones.
Maybe the 2nd Amendment is a good idea after all. I wouldn't put it past the 6ft Wotsit to give it a try !!
If the 2nd amendment ever become useful in the struggle for freedom, a lot has gone very wrong before. I wonder if many NRA members protester hard against parts of the Patriot Act, NSA surveilance, Gerrymandering, Trump's treat ment of the critical press etc.
The Us democracy and the institutions are very strong and it take a lot to bring it down. It's so solid I doubt private guns are needed to preserve the freedoms.
I'm glad Trump has supported some restrictions on gun ownership after the latest school massacre. The NRA even called what he said in a meeting "treason".
I think this shows Trump isn't driven by ideology, but impulse and ego. I wonder what his positions on the issue will be tomorrow or next week....
This new attack on a former Russian spy has all the potential to kick off a new cold war between Russia and the UK, especially as it seems likely the nerve agent uses was an old one soman which Russia had significant stocks of, which were supposed to be all destroyed under the supervision of the Un. The would be assassin will have uses old trusted methods to escape and evade, using a pre ordered travel ticket most likely by train or ferry with of course false documents.
It's already being called an act of war by some, and sanctions are already being mentioned, but spies collect many enemies and we should use caution before officially blaming the Russian state. I'd be surprised if any arrest is made.
Smart move from Mr. Trump starting a trade war against his own allies.
That will give Mr. Putin a field day in his aim to disrupt western societies and strengthen the anti-West and pro-Russian* movements that are getting stronger and stronger and it's also a brilliant idea to weaken his allies in Southkorea and Japan.

Trump continues to show how incredibly presidential he is. The only president who might rival him was Lincoln, but sadly Abe didn't have Twitter )
Any comments on the Skripal poisonings in Salisbury and the aftermath?
I think it's very likely Russia that's behind it. They have motive and the poison is Soviet. Some nerve gas depots were in other Soviet republics and the 90's were chaotic, but Russia was probably behind it. Using a traceable poison makes it clear this was a message.
I think it was correct of the British government to react the way they do. This type of behaviour can't be tolerated and the US, France, Germany etc support this. The Russian reaction (both in the media and much of the population) is that these are provocations by a outside world hostile to Russia. This fits Putin's narrative perfectly, but a line must be drawn.
The British government is wrong in saying the recent nerve gas attack is the first in Europe since WWII. It's the first nerve gas attack in Europe ever
Just a short explanation before you click the link:
Mike Pence issued a children book featuring a rabbit named Marlon Bundo. Of course the book features "family values" that Pence likes to see.
As a reply, John Oliver created "A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo", the story of a gay rabbit falling in love.
As usual, Oliver takes a long stretch giving the full context but the result is hilarious and I've just ordered my copy.
That aside, Pences book ranks nr. 15 on Amazon monday morning, Oliver's book ranks #1!
Interesting story from France, ex president Sarkozy is in police custody over claims he funded Colonel Gaddafi campaigns!
I think it was the other way round - Gadaffi funded Sarkozy's election campaign for million of dollars.
French politics seems pretty corrupt.
Makes you wonder what his real motives for the French role in the war against Libya really was.

Yes I saw the report last night, my newsfeed had it the wrong way round, the brilliance of modern journalism. 8-)
Just watching pieces from Karen McDougal who dated Trump from 2006 - 2007.
While I don't doubt that that really happened, I am astonished by the hypocrisy that comes out here.
So, she had a first date with him in Beverly Hills. She knew that he was about to marry.
The first date ended in sex and he wanted to give her money. She says that she was shocked.
Somehow understandable while I don't like the cheating part.
But then she continues meeting him ("because I was in love") for a year, several times a week - a guy who offered her money after the first night - "I am not that kind of girl".
I know that I never understand women - but I really fail to feel sorry for her.

Karen MacDouglal, the Playboy Playmate who (maybe) had an affair with the current US presdident ......
I just heard that 40% of the Swedish stock exchange is controlled by one family. The family is the Wallenberg family, a family who have dominated Swedish economy for 150 years. You may have heard of Raol Wallenberg who saved many Jews in Hungary during WWII, got arrested by the Soviets and disappeared forever.
The motto of this very rich family is "To influence without being seen"........
Today 18 countries (including the US, UK, the EU and Norway) expelled 100 Russian "diplomats" after the Salisbury nerve gas attack. This is the largest international expulsion of Russians in history. I think this is probably necessary, but at the same time feeding right into the Putin regime world view.
Any other opinions?
To be honest, imo, this is all blown out of proportion (probably to show what a great leader T. May can be after all her screwups).
If someone could check archives, it would turn out that all Secret Services have done it and still are doing it. The only thing that seems to be unusual is the use of a nerve agent that could potentially harm many more.

I must smile a little about Mr. Trumps behaviour in the eye of the 2 recent interviews of women saying that they had an affair. He‘s unusually silent on the topic.
Imagine for one second, that there is be anything wrong with what these women say.
He‘d be blasting FAKE NEWS and others and go after those 2 on Twitter day and night.

Trump should call in Bill Clinton as a reference. He could be useful. I'm sure he could give some practical advice.

It's the first time in history a nerve gas was used in Europe. It was done with a nerve gas produced in the Soviet Union and Russian Secret Service had an obvious motive. I'd say the attack was done rgis way to send a message. In my opinion Russia has been testing how far they can go for years now, it's time to say "stop".
