It's not often we hear the opinions of the white, privileged,
Multimillionaire, and Jacob Rees-Mogg helps the rest of
Us know what this minority group, who don't often have a
    Voice think. :))

:)) I think even 19th could be too futuristic for him :D
I always get the impression that if you did him a favour
    ( not a euphemism ) he'd give you a shiny sixpence :))

As a (hopefully) interesting aside, if memory serves the term 'honourable member for the 19th century was originally invented for a ridiculous old Tory buffer from the 1950s and 60s called Sir Gerald Nabarro. Unlike Rees-Mogg, Sir Gerald had started with nothing and was an extremely successful businessman before entering politics, his fruity accent and enormous handlebar moustache being the affectations of a man assuming a persona.

He was an absurd reactionary who made frequent television appearances fulminating noisily against what he saw as the evils of the age while thoroughly enjoying drink, women and fast cars - this made him a hugely popular figure among the general public, and eventually ensured his downfall.

Here is a clip of Sir Gerald in action - please excuse the childish swearing in the introduction by whoever posted the video: https://youtu.be/aOB_5cVqe7s

Soon Trump is going to the NATO summit in Brussels to say more condescending and negative things about/to his closest allies. Then he is going to Finland to meet President Putin. I bet the mood will be lighter there - Trump has already said he thinks the meeting will be "easy". I shudder to think what kind of "brilliant" deal he will make with his favourite dictator behind the back of USA's allies. Perhaps an end to the economic sanctions against Russia?
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,334MI6 Agent
Didn't take him long. Trump just confronted NATO General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg in front of the TV cameras. He called Germany "Russia's prisoner" because they buy natural gas from Russia. I see his point, but NATO and Stoltenberg has no say on who member states buy energy from. Besides, berating NATO's General Secretary in front of the cameras can only hurt NATO.
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
To be fair to Trump only America and Britain pay what they
Should to NATO, other countries pay well under what they're
Supposed to. Yet still want an EU army ?

Trump is absolutely right that many European countries need to spend more on the military, and Norway is one of them.
But berating the NATO General Secretary (who isn't even German) in front of the cameras about Germany's energy purchases is just bad judgement on several levels.

Trump is only following the instructions of his Russian handler, Putin. Weakening the NATO alliance benefits only one country, and it sure ain't the USA.
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,334MI6 Agent
By now I'd say it proven the Russian state meddled in the US election, but it's safe to say Trump as president isn't the success the Russian hoped for. The sanctions are still in effect and the US bombed Assad in Syria. It's fun to talk about Putin as Trump's "handler", but that's not real. Trump admires authoritarian leaders and dislikes international organisations such as the UN, EU and NATO, but let's be real - he's no Russian agent.

According to The Sun President Trump said many negative things about Theresa May and her handling of BREXIT.
According to President Trump this is "fake news" and his relationship is very good.

Who do we believe, the untrustworthy newspaper or the untrustworthy president?

Theresa May says Trump advised her to sue the EU instead of negotiating.
I'm not sure Trump understands the difference between a country and a company :))

The summit in Helsinki is over. It doesn't look like Trump didn't give up anything valuable this time.
Yet he made a disgrace of himself. When asked if he believes Russia or ALL the inteligence services of his own country he said he he believes Putin!
But he completely stands by his claim that the Democrats stole millions of votes in spite of no proof at all to support his allegations.
Donald Trump has no shame - let's hope Republican voters do.

The headline of BBC News is "Trump sides with Russia against FBI".
I wonder what the Republicans would have said if if the headline was "Clinton sides with Russia against FBI"?
I think they would have taken it very seriously. As they should. So should everyone now.

For the Russians, yes, I definitely say it did — for the Americans, not so much :s

Absolutely. It's been some black days for Western Europe and democracy.
At the NATO summit Trump criticizes his allies in front of the TV cameras. Then he meets the Russian leader and says he trust him more than all the US intelligence services and the House Intelligence Committee. Can you imagine Ronald Reagan doing something like that?
Can you imagine any other US president than Trump doing that?
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
Yes I can imagine another president saying that ........
....... If they were being controlled by Russia ;)

Former CIA Director Brennan calls Trump's statements at the Helsinki press conference "treasonous".

Some Democrats have called for the translator's notes from Trump and Putin's meeting to be made available to the House Foreign Affairs Committee (or whatever it's called in the US)
I think that's a good idea. If Trump thought it was a good idea to say what he said in public, God knows what he said to Putin in private :o :o :o

It's all very well but on any ordinary day the idea that the FBI and CIA are untrustworthy would not the most out there of theories... Of course, that doesn't mean that the Kremlin is to be trusted; we know it is not.

It's just that I trust Müller & FBI & CIA more than Trump & Putin & FSB & GRU.

Trump tweets "Fake media is going crazy!!".

Well, "fake media" includes FOX News, Newt Gingerich and a whole lot of Republican politicians this time :))
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,334MI6 Agent
Now Trump claims he mispoke in Helsinki. He actually meant to say he saw no reason why it wasn't Russia that meddled in the 2016 election :))

No he didn't! If he misspoke he wouldn't have bitched about "FAKE news going crazy."
    Liar, Liar, pants on fire...

The vale of the Turkish lire has dropped significantly and Erdogan blames the USA. Erdogan just said in a speech that Turkey may need to look for other allies such as Russia and China. This is worrying from one of the most powerful NATO members.
