"Lashana Lynch on making history as the first Black female 007"
that would be a massive spoiler through a magazine-interview and Broccoli said that Bond stays male, hm...
Writing was on the wall. She's called a 00 and nothing would have significance to character or story besides her being "007" after Bond left. So then they have this tension during the film, then gets reconciled before the final dive into Safin's hell.
I just thought the 007 number is directly connected with the James Bond character but you could be right
Bond hasn't always been 007. He was not 007 at the start of Casino Royale. He's dropped out of the service before, and he didn't have his number then. There's the time when he picks up the phone in OHMSS and identifies himself as 007 but quickly corrects himself. So there's no reason they can't fill the position if Bond leaves.
But why is everybody thinking she‘ll replace Bond FOR GOOD?
Could also mean (and that’s exactly what old rumors have been saying) she‘ll carry the 007-number for a chunk of the movie bc Bond - as we all know - is in retirement in Jamaica.
Don‘t think it means she’s the new „star of the franchise“.

The explanation doesn't get clicks or comments. They want to enrage people!

Yes quite right, even in the original source materiel he wasn't always 007, in the beginning of Flemings YOLT, he's assigned a new number 7777 as he receives a promotion to Diplomatic Section.

For God's sake, is that so difficult to understand ? Nomi is the new "007".
Does it mean James Bond will become a female in the next movies ? Absolutely NOT. Bond remains the heterosexual white male described by Fleming in his novels.
In LTK, Bond doesn't work for the British government anymore. His 007 status is revoked. Did it shock the 1989 audience ? Nope. Remember these movies are called "Bond films", which means they are dealing with the character of James Bond, no matter whether he is 007 or not. As a Bond fan, I never used the expression "I'm looking forward to watching the new 007 film".
Understand and of course can be dealt with, but two things for me, firstly like it or not, '007' is a big part of the franchise, just think of how many items, memorabilia, posters carry that logo, so splitting the two, Bond and 007 doesn't feel comfortable. And secondly, how do you reboot the franchise with a new Bond, 007 if the number is taken?

My friend, there is something you have to be very careful about, it's the way some articles deal with such a question to introduce ambiguity, on purpose of course.
Everything about Lashana Lynch concerns NTTD. Nothing more. Did she say she was considered by the producers as Craig's successor ? NO. If it was the case, I bet a lot of people would simply drop their passion for the franchise, because as I said, what every true fan is looking forward to is nothing more than watching a film featuring the character of James Bond (no matter whether he owns the 007 status or not to me).
The necessary condition to make this franchise continue in the future is Bond. Did anyone ever talk about the 26th official movie as a "Nomi film" ? Until the title is revealed, do you seriously think they are going to replace the temporary item "Bond 26" by "Nomi 1" ? Let me be sceptical about it.
Anyway, the character of Bond will indeed appear in the next film, and I have doubts about the presence of "Nomi 007" in it, even if she survives in NTTD. It's more likely she only belongs to the gallery of the Craig era characters.
...And secondly, how do you reboot the franchise with a new Bond, 007 if the number is taken?
That doesn't bode too well for Nomi, I'm afraid... :v
I'm quite sure she will survive at the end of NTTD. They want to show her as the other "heroe" of the film to make a part of the audience identify with her. They will never kill her...which is a shame because I think she would be much more interesting with a doom by sacrificing herself to save Bond, Madeleine and the child. But it will never happen, believe me...
From what I am seeing, it is just the outrage culture. Bond will assume the role again. I don't like she will be the replacement for bond in upcoming movies. If so, I don't see much of a future in the franchise, and that is not a sexist attach or anything of the sort!
Barbara Broccoli has already talked about recasting Bond and a new actor putting their stamp on it. She’s also said they won’t have a “female Bond.” And I wouldn’t give too much thought to a spin-off franchise, either stating Lynch as Nomi. It takes them half a decade just to get a standard Bond film out at this point. People need to understand that Nomi as 007 is both (1) completely reasonable since Craig’s Bond quit the service at the end of Spectre, and (2) a marketing ploy to get people talking.

...and (3) that there‘s no chance of Nomi being killed off in this movie due to the current political and social climate we’re in.

Well and, like, narratively there's no reason to do it.
She's symbolically Bond's "daughter". If the stuff is to be believed about Bond/Madeleine having a child, then the narrative line is very clear to draw — he learns "fatherhood" through Nomi, then with that skill he accepts who he actually is and accepts literal fatherhood.

Nope, I don't. Just you wait, she'll either buys it or resigns. The reason for this: the need to reboot with the new JB actor. It's not like she's an established character, she's just a one movie plot vehicle. Although, I would love to see her survive to the next one and being tasked with breaking in the new 007!

I'm not thrilled by the idea of having Lynch in Bond 26 co-starring with the new Bond. I don't want the franchise to copy the MI series with the 00 Section gathering a team of agents for the same mission.
If you take GE, Bond and Trevelyan are partners but it was on purpose, to make the antagonism more credible to the audience. In TLD, 004 gets killed in the PTS and Bond receives the assignment of discovering who's behind this, especially after Koskov's (fake) defection. M even considers recalling 008 instead of sending Bond into the field (like in GF).
It would destroy the spirit of the franchise and the essence of the novels to make Nomi a regular teammate. Bond must remain the only heroe of his own missions to me.

Looking at the bridge scene, I think you're right.
Interview with Rami Malek about Safin, I haven't heart it yet but there might be some spoilers, its around 37min long
That's confirmation that he is indeed Dr. No

Didn't Broccoli just say that Bond stays male, and not say anything about 007? If Nomi is 007, it doesn't mean that James Bond had a sex change.

yuck, hope this isn't true. Would be the end of Bond forever.
See Matt S’s post above yours.

Would love to know how/why she's using a gun. Must be something serious — she doesn't like guns haha.
So excited for this film!
