From the photos and other items of Sean Connery that he dedicated, he seems to have rather poor penmanship. That could be the reason.

SM, I thought about that one, but not having seen the film in a while, I seemed to remember it was written by someone other than Bond?

After watching that scene again, I'm now undecided on who wrote it - it's quite ambiguous. Either way, one of them is very talented at drawing octopussies!

In the novel "The Spy Who Loved Me" Bond writes a note to Vivienne at the end. She describes it as "the writing was very clear and even and he had used a real pen not a ballpoint." So it seems JB has some nice handwriting.
