Thoughts on which bond film will be referenced most in bond 25?

Obviously the craig era will be referenced as the story's
Said to continue from casino through to S.P.E.C.T.R.E.
I wonder what nods we will get.

Any thoughts?

Does anyone think bond 25 will end where dr no begins??

I hope not, but it definitely seems like Dr. No and Thunderball will be strongly represented. and that's not a bad thing at all!

Maybe that's why in recent years more people have come to love and appreciate OHMSS?

That and the fact people have realised its probably the best shot movie out of the bunch, thank's to ole Peter Hunt.

And thanks to Fleming, John Barry, the scriptwriters etc.
A lot of things fell into place for that film. :007)

A reference or two to FYEO would be nice, as it was Moore's 5th Bond film also, and since this is the first Bond film after his death it would be nice for it to receive some love.

I dont mind subtle nods but I'd kind of like to see something stand more on it's own. To me things in Spectre felt forced to the point where it was as if there was a quota of references per scene they had to meet.

Hell yeah id like the pre titles to have bond working in a delicatessen made of stainless steel.

All joking aside i would expect them to put a "in memory of roger moore" at the end like cubby at the end of tomorrow never dies.

Touche. I honestly suppressed every memory of that film.

That would start a precedent; they would then have to do the same for Connery, etc, so I think it's unlikely.

gawd I hope they don't do any references to the classic films, these moments have dragged me right out of the story in four of the last five films. They only remind me we are watching a younger generation of Brocollis try to replicate their father's legacy which they do not themselves understand.
The only one of the recent films not full of such easter eggs was Casino Royale, which did not need them because it was actually based on Fleming. Which is what I would prefer they do again.

Roger Moore should definitely get some credit in the next film. An isolated dedication at the start of the closing credits, before the list of names begins to scroll. Craig cant do Moore style jokes, so he shouldn't try to put on the clown costume himself.
Why shouldn't it set a precedent? I should hope they would do a big memorial credit for Connery when his time comes, whether there's precedent or not. The present generation of filmmakers owe their jobs to Connery and Moore.

I too think that each Bond actor should get his tribute when the time comes. After all, they all were the quintessence of the franchise at some point.

I wouldn’t mind seeing some references to classic Bond films by way of the wardrobe. Beyond that, I don’t want any more self-referential stuff.
  • You'veHadYourSixYou'veHadYourSix Posts: 79MI6 Agent
Totally agree on the bond's getting a dedication.
A look back at the wardrobes would be good, David from The bond experience i bet would have an interesting opinion on this.

Aswell as previous bond films, bond movies have often
take inspiration from what is current at the time
Its personally why i think its remained relevant as a franchise and will continue to do so.

Any thoughts on films that might inspire bond 25?

    Like hitchcock inspired FRWL

    STAR WARS inspired Moonraker

Or Bourne inspired casino & quantum!!

Instead of an isolated dedication, why not do something like TWINE. Remember the painting of Bernard Lee? They can do something similar for Moore. Bond walking down a hallway filled with paintings. One of the paintings can be of Moore. Maybe for fun they can throw in a Desmond Llewelyn painting and one or two other tributes, Ian Flemings can be in there to.

No matter how many times you watch them,

    BUMP!

Now we've seen the trailer and various other glimpses ....
Like it or not, the new villain's headquarters sure looks a lot like Dr No's headquarters.
But is it a simple visual tribute, or is the whole film going to be a remake as some seem to want?

Do you think NTTD could some how prelude DR No, with that set. Would you rather rami malek was DR NO or his own original villain?

me personally? I definitely want Malik to be an original villain, But lets throw that question out to the folks at home, I'd like to see the pro-Dr No-remake argument articulated.

Do I think this film could some how lead full circle back to Connery's first?
good gawd, maybe, but I don't see how it could logically work. They've done things like CraigBond having ConneryBond's Aston in his garage, and that made no sense even though audiences cheered. I think they cant keep themselves consistently committed to this new time line.

But if this is a prelude to the very first film, does that then mean this new Bond will therefor have 19 more adventures to look forward to, like the preCraigBonds experienced?
Beacuse, CraigBond already took a huge leap forward in his career at the beginning of SkyFall, going from rookie Bond to jaded worldweary Bond. I think the assumption in this new film is that he is now beyond jaded and worldweary, he is retired. I don't believe he's going on any more adventures after this one.

But Lashana Lynch is the new 007. Maybe she will experience the original Dr No adventure after this film, and 19 further adventures corresponding to the original timeline? Lets throw that possibility out there for folks at home to discuss!

There's no way that the Connery timeline can follow Craig's. In Dr. No, nobody knew yet of SPECTRE or the secret head of it. Bond discovers Blofeld in YOLT. Any future agent would be briefed on SPECTRE and Blofeld, so there's no way they could be discovered again.

Dr No will obviously have tonnes of references. But also YOLT (rumoured volcano lair, Japanese culture), and DAD (possible cloning-esque plot). And obviously Craig's first 4 films. I think these will be the main ones.
    1 - LALD, 2 - AVTAK, 3 - LTK, 4 - OP, 5 - NTTD, 6 - FYEO, 7 - SF, 8 - DN, 9 - DAF, 10 - TSWLM, 11 - OHMSS, 12 - TMWTGG, 13 - GE, 14 - MR, 15 - TLD, 16 - YOLT, 17 - GF, 18 - DAD, 19 - TWINE, 20 - SP, 21 - TND, 22 - FRWL, 23 - TB, 24 - CR, 25 - QOS

    1 - Moore, 2 - Dalton, 3 - Craig, 4 - Connery, 5 - Brosnan, 6 - Lazenby

Huh? Where did you get that from? 8-) In the most recent interview, EON was very clear that while Bond could be any race, color, etc the character will remain male.
  • Quentin QuigleyQuentin Quigley Terminal One, Hamburg AirportPosts: 1,201MI6 Agent
Eon are smarter and more innovative than to just do a DN remake. NTTD will be its own beast.

I think GE will get several nods, since the 25th anniversary is around the corner. Maybe the one or two AKS-74U rifles seen is a nod to it, or maybe not. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a nod to every film - but of course, not on a DAD level.
Always have an escape plan. Mine is watching James Bond films.

Though I'm not sold on Nomi being 007, she could be 007 and the character of James Bond would still be male and played by Daniel Craig.

    this very forum!
Do a forum search on the terms "Lashana Lynch" and 007, and you can trace the whole discussion over the last couple of months if you missed it.
It seems the rumour did start from an unnamed tabloid, but the producers have been deliberately working with those unfounded rumours to generate buzz.

The trailer plays with the rumour (M says "wheres 007!", cut to Jamaica and Bond, then Nomi appears introducing herself as a new double oh, then another cut)

fellow agent Red_Snow posted interviews with both Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Lashana Lynch herself, where they are each asked about the rumour, and are both coy in their response but go on about how inspirational the very idea is

    so don't blame me!

The thing is, in context of this discussion, specifically the OP's question, a new 007 going on to experience remakes of the old adventures in sequence makes more sense than CraigBond doing the same, since he's supposed to be jaded, worldweary and retired!

Anyway, I just had a thought. Malek's character Safin(?) may wear the traditional Noh mask, but No isn't part of his name.
Which character does have No as the first two letters of her name? oooh, thats gotta mean something?!!!

    "Is James Bond still 007?"

"No, it's mi! And by the way, I'm also a doctor."

Or maybe James Bond needs to visit the proctologist in this film. When it comes time for the exam, Bond exclaims, "Doctor, no!"
