Other Daniel Craig movies

I don't know if there's another thread for this but are there some other Craig movies you recommend? I've seen some, like Defiance, road to perdition, layer cake and the girl with the dragoon tattoo, and some others like logan lucky but i didn't like that to much. But now I'm a little curious on a movie called Enduring love with craig and the guy from Notting hill. Someone seen that? And also i would like to se Flashbacks of a Fool where he plays a miserabel hollywood star or something like that.

It's well over 10 years since i saw Enduring Love and I can't recall many of the details of the story, however a couple of scenes stick out in my mind. It opens with an accident involving a hot air balloon, and Craig's character is stalked throughout the film by Rhys Ifans' character who becomes obsessed with him after they both are involved with the balloon accident. As I recall it was a pretty good film.

I liked The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn in which Craig plays (via performance capture) the villain of the film. Also, Spielberg's Munich is pretty good.

A film starring Craig that I am curious to see is The Trench, in which Craig plays a WWI soldier on the Western Front. The film has middling reviews, but I'd still like to see it.

@Licencetochat, Here is a run down on the story in Flashbacks Of A Fool from IMDB.com :" An aging Hollywood star, Joe Scott, lives a life of narcissistic hedonism, observed by his laconic personal assistant, Ophelia. The death of his childhood best friend, Boots, takes our protagonist, and the movie, into an extended flashback to a sea-side town in 1970's Britain. Hollywood star Joe is now a teenage boy in a tentative relationship with a school-girl called Ruth. Further, his mother's friend, Evelyn, is attempting to seduce him. Engulfed by guilt at the unintended, tragic consequences of his subterfuge, he leaves home. The movie then switches back to contemporary Hollywood. Joe confronts his fear and returns to England for a difficult meeting with Ruth, who had gone on to marry Boots and has been a left a poor widow."

Despite the movie not being a financial hit, it did receive good critical notices and I am curious to see it myself. Defiance (2008) is really well done, defiantly one of Craig's best roles. The Power Of One (1992) is Craig's first acting role and a real standout performance as well from what I have heard. The Mother (2003) is another strong dramatic role for him where he plays a handyman that is out to seduce an older married woman that is employing his services. Munich (2005) is another performance of his pre-James Bond days that is very popular. I would not be surprised if this is where the Steve McQueen comparisons started, since his character is named Steve and he sports a very Steve McQueenese haircut in the movie.

yes i have seen Munich too, there's definitely some craig movies i haven't seen before that i must watch. And for the future i would love to see a Daniel Craig and a Arnold Schwarzenegger action film since they are both one of my favorite actors. How cool would that be? But i doubt that will ever happen.

Kings is another Daniel Craig movie that I am curious to see. It is a drama that focuses on the lives of two people during the 1992 Los Angeles riots that occurred after the acquittal of the four police officers that beat Rodney King. Also I heard that the British tv miniseries The Ice House is a definite must see if your a Daniel Craig fan. I am looking forward to seeing Craig in the murder mystery film Knives Out later this year as well.

Kings has a very low score on imdb, but i sure think i would watch it at some point, and it has Halle Berry in it too. Knives out i will definetively watch when it comes out.

Layer Cake (2004) is one of his most famous roles pre-James Bond. In fact it was this movie that convinced producer Barbra Broccoli, to cast him as 007. Craig plays a character simply called XXXX (or Unknown) who is a cocaine dealer. Looking forward to an early retirement from criminal life, he is forced by his boss to perform two difficult tasks. It has quite a strong cast with supporting roles filled by Tom Hardy, Ben Whishaw and Michael Gambon among others. I plan on watching this one very soon, as part of a Daniel Craig marathon.

It's a really good movie, but I'm not sure it's the reason Craig was cast a s Bond. I seem to remember an interview (deliberately vague, yes) where it's said Barbara Broccoli got the idea when she saw Craig as a catholic assassin in Elizabeth (1998).

I watched both Layer Cake and Munich recently, defiantly two of Daniel Craig's best movie roles in his career. I am hoping to watch some more after the holidays are over with. I heard many good things about his World War 1 movie The Trench (1999), which also features Ben Whishaw in a supporting role, so that is next on my list along with Road To Perdition (2002) and The Ice House(a 1997 BBC tv movie).

Knives out looks like it might be interesting. Layer cake is my favourite, i think Craig is terrific in this.

Knives Out is a great murder mystery, with a dash of comedy tossed in. Not since the remake of Murder On The Orient Express, have I enjoyed a murder mystery like this one. Daniel Craig really stands out playing a southern gentleman private detective, who was contracted by an unknown party to look into the death of a wealthy mystery writer after his 85th birthday. Additionally, the all star cast playing the dysfunctional family is a real hoot to see. Plus Ana de Armas from No Time To Die appears in the film and has many scenes opposite Craig.

Logan Lucky is another movie with Craig in the cast that I really enjoyed. Seeing him play a hillbilly explosives expert was lots of fun, especially given that he has not really made that many comedic movies to my knowledge.

I thoroughly enjoyed Knives Out. If you like the Agatha Christie + humour type of film, it's a good one. Layer Cake and Munich are both excellent, and I really enjoyed Logan Lucky. The latter wasn't what I had expected at all.

I also thought that Knives Out was a very enjoyable detective yarn. Also it was the first time I'd seen Daniel Craig on the big screen since Spectre, and that was a treat. I found his Southern accent charming and entertaining, and the supporting cast was first rate, and Ana De Armas did very well as the heroine of the film. I enjoyed the various references to classic detective fiction - plenty of Holmes/Watson references, a classic Agatha Christie vibe, and my favourite of all...Ana De Armas' character arriving home to find her mother watching Murder She Wrote in Spanish.

Daniel Craig has been in several movies where sequels were planned, but never realized in spite of being really good: "The Golden Compass", "The girl with the dragon tatoo" and Tintin. It's a shame really.

@Number 24, yes that is mostly to due to the fact that those titles failed to make much money at the box office. The Golden Compass was such a major bomb, it caused the closure of New Line Cinema( which got purchased by Warner Brothers shortly after). The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo did get a loose squeal, in the form of The Girl In The Spider's Web. However this film was adapted from a continuation novel by another author (which already had a negative reception.) and it replaced all of the cast of Dragon Tattoo with new actors. These factors likely contributed to it being a flop at the box office.

Getting back to the topic at hand, I heard that writer/ director Rian Johnson is actively working on a follow up to Knives Out. I am really happy that this happening.

Yes, it was because of (very) bad box office numbers. the shame is that all three movies were really good. Dalton experienced the same thing with The Rocketeer. It wasn't seen by many at the cinema, but now it turns up on lists of forgotten gems.

Bond actors tend to struggle until they get a little distance from Bond. Also we dont have 'Stars' anymore in the sense that their name alone guarantees an audience.

Daniel Craig appears to have been very mindful of doing other projects during his tenure as Bond - Logan Lucky, Knives Out, theatre productions - and I can see him making the transition away from Bond more easily and quickly than others did.

@ Number 24, yes it is a shame that The Rocketeer underperformed, despite having not read any Rocketeer comic books until recently I still enjoyed the movie both as a boy and now. I really wish that Disney would give a proper special edition on DVD/ Blu Ray.

Becoming a producer was a smart move on Craig's part, when your an actor/ actress that produces many of the movies you star in you have more creative control as well as get better offers. I remember reading the book The Films Of Sean Connery, and Connery himself said becoming a producer on many of his later movies helped get him into better roles even with the occasional flop now and again.

I remember being impressed with Defiance. It was like that sequence in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves when the Merry Men plant booby traps in Sherwood Forest. Craig and co do the same as they spend the film as Jews living in a wood and set about trapping the Nazis.

I think so too. He will probably return as the strong supporting actor he always wss, he was never leading man material in the first place. However the very idea of leading man or inded 'Star' is a an old fashioned notion. He's a good actor so I think he will do well

I think Craig will keep beeing a leading man in some movies, but he doesn't mind sharing credit in or even being a supporting actor. He has done some of his best work outside Bond in ensamble movies or in a supporting role. .

Road To Perdition is another highlight of his career from what I have heard. In fact, once I was out shopping (I had a James Bond themed t shirt on that day) the clerk who checked me out noticed my shirt and we started talking about Daniel Craig as Bond and his other movies. The clerk told me I should watch Road To Perdition, Craig plays a great nasty son of an aging gangster looking to make his mark in the underworld of the 1930's. This film was the first of three collaborations with director Sam Mendes.

I have also heard that his debut in the drama The Power Of One (1992) is quite good. I am defiantly planning on checking it out in the near future. Speaking of his pre-Bond work, here is a video highlighting some of the standouts of that period. I have not seen any of these titles yet myself, just so you know: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQu4jBAxBU8

I just got a copy of the BBC tv movie The Ice House (1997), on DVD and I cannot wait to see it. I have read many good things about it and I am looking forward to seeing it soon.
