I'm sure everybody noticed the traditional Japanese "Noh" mask glimpsed at the end of the teaser.
Given the title, the Japanese mask, the Jamaican setting... We might scheduled to see a certain Doctor.
I guess we'll find out in April...

We have already had Dr No, I just don't understand why they would bring back things that have already been done. Blofeld is a different case as he was always a recurring character.

I agree. I don't like the idea of remaking old things in ways that draw easy comparisons. It's already too late to avoid that with Blofeld.
Blofeld was always a recurring character, but in general I'm for completely new villans.
Why do both hands need to be mechanical? Maybe his right (partially seen) is flesh and his left hand is mechanical?
If Malek did turn out to be playing Dr No I don't think it would bother me. And maybe it would be satisfying to see my expectations from 13 years being fulfilled. Obviously I would hope that they would pull it off better than they did with Blofeld last time around though.
I didn't catch them calling him Dr. No in the trailer. Did I miss something?
yare yare daze.
Insert a comma into the title and you get...
No, Time to Die.
Why do people want it to go full-circle though? That would only make sense if it was the last bond film ever.... and I sure as hell don't want it to be the last

Dr No is from Beijing, 2000km away from Japan (check Google Maps if you don't believe me).
That's like saying James Bond is kinda sorta from Moscow, because Glencoe and Moscow are in the same part of the world, if you refer to a small scale enough map.
Anyway, they don't need to remake any old films, certainly not key classic films that are still as good as they ever were.
They have a lot of unadapted Fleming left, they should be tackling before they remake a film they've already made.
You Only Live Twice in particular, and a traditional Japanese theatre mask is much more appropriate to that story, than to a character who was born in Beijing.
I personally think people are being misled to believe Malik is Dr No after how spectre went down with the script leak and what not. The producers want to be one step ahead this time. )
Bond is not a code name at all. It's his actual surname.
Bond: “I must be dreaming.”
I think the only people that possibly believe or have considered that Malek is or has a connection to Dr. No are a few odd members on Bond forums. For the average movie watcher—or even the average Bond fan—the thought wouldn’t have even come to mind. The idea that people are intentionally being misled is ridiculous.
Yes I know where China and Japan are. No need to be rude! I speak both languages and have lived in both Japan and Taiwan! I am not suggesting Rami Malek is literally the character Julius No from the movie Dr. No, but rather, a reimagining and an homage of that character, in keeping with the soft reboot nature of Craig's films. Hence, the "noh" mask and the Jamaican setting, etc. Clearly the decision was made to incorporate that imagery into the design of the film for some reason. We shall see!
That, and the fact that they are both Asian. )
In all honesty, I'm not sure the average audience member will pick up on it, nor do I expect it to be a major plot point.
But Dr. “No” is an adopted name anyhow, and "nou" is not actually a common surname or word in Mandarin, so it would be difficult to tie a recognizable Chinese cultural reference to a non-Asian character. But in Japanese, "Noh" is a very recognizable image and concept and can be used as an homage. Maybe that's culturally insensitive, but I think it's kind of an easter egg, and probably intentional.
and yes that Mask is definitely a part of the film, apparently a significant part. So at the very least the title could be a pun.
I don't want to see them remake Dr No, when they still haven't done You Only Live Twice properly yet, but that's just me. We shall have to wait and see, and in the meantime its fun to sift the clues and speculate!
what does Malik say about a "reflection", just as we get to the shot of him in the mask through the frosted glass at 1:52? (the image in th opening post) is it "I could be speaking to my own reflection"? his enunciation isnt so great
It's not just you.
I thought this was understood after Skyfall came out.

I'm agreeing with everything you're saying here.
Basically we need more unused stuff, and less rehashed stuff.
I'm currently re-watching the bond films (the NTTD trailer set that off lol), and Dr No is just a brilliant film through and through, including the titular villain. I want Malek to be his own villain, even if it is using the Shatterhand name.
If they bring back Dr No, then I guarantee they will be bringing back Goldfinger, Largo, Scaramanga, when would it end? New/unused villains please!

And there's a picture of a Japanese pagoda (or something similar) behind Malek on the close-up
