Needs more Leiter

I'm hoping that Felix Leiter has a greater presence in NTTD than he has had in the previous films, seeing as he's likely to be replaced after DC passes on the Walther to the next Bond.

I personally love Jeffrey Wright in the role and feel he has been under-utilised in the Craig films. I know in the Connery etc films Leiter isn't omnipresent but he does make a fair few appearances with more screen time.

I'm not looking for this to be a buddy-spy film but it'd good to give JW's Leiter a decent send off.

What do you guys think?
Yes but my martini's still dry.

I hope there will be a soft re-boot where the actors playing M, Q, Moneypenny and Leiter remain.

I like Wright too, but his part in the first two Craig films has been at least as big as any of the classic Leiters, except in Licence to Kill obviously, Dr No and Never Say Never Again.

In all the other films Leiter's just an otherwise interchangeable bit player who helps Bond with some random paperwork or delivers one piece of exposition and is gone. If you hadn't read Fleming's books, you wouldn't know the latest generic American in a suit talking to Bond for thirty seconds out of the entire film was supposed to be a proper character.

Wrights screentime may not have added up to much either, but his actions were pivotal to the plot in Quantum... and he looks to be doing the same in the next one. Classic Leiter was never pivotal to the plot except that one time he disagreed with something that ate him.

I really liked how Leiter was introduced in CR. He was this mysterious character who you knew had to be "somebody" because he was being portrayed by Wright. Wright just brings a certain gravitas to the role and a bit of a shadowy mystery. Wright's quiet, shadowy and calculating Leiter is also a good counterpoint to Craig's damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead, blunt instrument Bond. I get the feeling that Wright will get a bit more screen time in NTTD.....primarily in Jamaica and Cuba.

Agreed, Wright's Leiter is underrated and underused. I wish they'd have dug into his character more. A perfect brooding badass companion to DC's Bond.
    I edit, therefore I am.

In my opinion, Leiter had sufficiently substantial roles in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace that I wasn't left regretting that he didn't have more screen time. And Wright's portrayal was certainly one of the most engaging of any cinematic Leiter, possibly even the best of them all. So I think his portrayal is definitely worthy of another significant role in NTTD. However, like others my suspicion has been that his appearance in the new movie will be quite brief, but I hope that if it is to be his last go at the role he gets to have a couple of really good scenes with Bond.

I'm not expecting Leiter to have a large roll in this, but he doesn't need one. Leiter isn't supposed to be a main character.

Perhaps he'll get mauled by a shark again. After all, they have sharks in Jamaica. Maybe this time it will happen when he's just going for a leisurely swim. :p

It appears, based upon the little we know, that Leiter is again pivotal in NTTD as he is the catalyst that gets the whole thing going.
I wouldn't be surprised if he gets more screen time in NTTD as he is Fukunaga's type of character and Fukunaga is great at doing the interplay between two strong characters who differ significantly in tact and personality but are put together for common goal or cause.

Based on what is known it seems as though, as HowardB says above, Leiter is pivotal in making the machinery of the plot turn, so that is certainly something. Hoping he is given at least one or two highly "meaty" scenes!
