Based upon what she said it would appear that Zimmer has been working on NTTD well before he was officially announced.
I definitely like the idea that Zimmer was working with Eilish on the theme song. The reality is, that theme song will play over the a Bond film title sequence for which the bar is set very high....for all intents and purposes IMO they were the forerunners of the modern music video. Eilish and her brother are very talented, but arranging, orchestrating and timing that song is best left in the hands of Zimmer. I can't help but think that the theme song will figure into the score this time around. I could imagine Marr playing the melody of the theme song on guitar over the orchestra in the score. It's funny, if Arnold was back I would be confident of what type of score we would get with Zimmer, there's a bit of the unknown......

I’m fairly sure Zimmer won’t be arranging or orchestrating. I don’t think he knows how to do those things. He’s probably producing the song. He’s an ideas guy, and he’s probably the right guy to be behind the song.

I guess I used those two terms a bit loosely. I wonder if some of Zimmer's "people" would have fulfilled those roles? IMO, it doesn't take a bunch of formal musical training to put a set of headphones on and play with the sliders during a recording session if you have a very good pair of ears and a gift for what sounds best. The great producer/engineer Jimmy Iovine (Springsteen, Tom Petty, John Lennon, The Pretenders and many others) had little or no musical training or was even a musician (he started out sweeping floors in a studio) but he had what they call "golden ears" and he learned through observation and being around musicians and paying close attention and being able to understand what they were looking for or trying to achieve.

That's producing, which does not require formal music training. It requires ideas and a knowledge of the music industry, which Zimmer has. Zimmer does a lot of producing, which may involve playing with sliders but is much more than that. I'm sure Zimmer will be bringing his people in to do some arranging and orchestrating of the piece that Billie and Finneas wrote. As producer Zimmer will have ideas as to the arrangement and orchestration, but he does not have the skills to do those things.
I'm no Zimmer expert and I get the whole thing where he hears the sounds, etc in his head and others notate, arrange and orchestrate those sounds, musical phrases, etc. That being said, despite his lack of formal training, Zimmer is able to play several instruments well enough to perform in a live setting (keyboards and guitar in particular) so whether innate or learned he has some knowledge of chords and scales. What I'm basically saying here is you might be painting a picture of Zimmer that's a bit overstated although I don't believe your purpose is to demean Zimmer's talent/abilities.
3 days before her "Special Performance"-Tweet she confirms that the bond-song is finished
'Skyfall' and 'Writings on the Wall' were released 25-30 days before world-premiere, so yeah u r right, its too early
Eilish just won 5 Grammy Awards so it looks like EON really picked the hot artist. If she performs the theme song on the Oscars with a montage of clips from the film in the background that would be a major publicity coupe for the film. That being said, she may not even be performing the NTTD theme song at the Oscars. Sometimes they get other artists to perform the nominated songs or she could be doing an Oscar winning song from the past as part of a tribute.
Even though it was heavily rumoured, it's not surprising that we didn't get Eilish's theme at the Oscars. It's a brand new song (so not a previous year's winner eg. Lose Yourself), not nominated for this year's best original song or even just one that featured in a movie that was nominated. So even though it's part of the longest running movie series, it still has nothing to do with the previous year in film and would be, I guess out of place, to see it done at this year's ceremony.
We did get a bit of the Goldfinger theme by the orchestra as one of the presenters walked on stage...which seemed like it might have been a lead in to an Eilish theme performance but nope, just a random bit of music.
What did everyone think of Billie Eilish's performance of Yesterday at the Oscars? Does it give you faith that she's turn out a good Bond theme? Or is her diction too mumbly?

Wasn't a big fan of her performance. Still have hope her Bond theme will be good. I'm not a fan of her style of music though so only time will tell if the Bond theme is good.
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope
I'm not a HUGE Elish fan. I appreciate some of her music. But I have a feeling she is going to absolutely kill this Theme. I think she will hit the somber, sad, finality the film seems to be going for.
The few bars that have been teased so far sound very promising, certainly infused with a Bondian feel. Warren Ringham of Q The Music provided a nice little analysis of this sample on Q The Music's Facebook page.
It hits London on February 14th at 12am. I know people were trying to guess when it was going to drop, but after thinking about this... I had a realization, is this their way of saying, "Sorry the movie isn't out today like we originally promised? Here's the theme song instead?"
Billie Eilish CONFIRMED to perform new James Bond theme tune at the BRITs in an orchestral performance with Hollywood film composer Hans Zimmer on the 18th Feb.
Comments
"Bond is so dope. It's the coolest movie franchise in the world [...] Crazy last couple months working on it with Hans.”
