    I've watched the clip a few times but in better quality and I'm pretty sure that the chap to Bond's right, who gets the shoe when he leaves, has a couple of white plaques under his £500s in the pile closest to him which by the look of it don't have cut corners so I think it has to be this one. There are only 3 times that you can get a glimpse of them I think but if anybody can be bothered to confirm, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

    I think they do definitely look like £1000 plaques. -{

    Thanks, so do I but great to have another "confirmation" although if I didn't know about them already I would never have "guessed" so............thanks both.

    What are your thoughts (anyone) on when the dealer leans over to pass Bond his winnings and the chap far left on screen has a couple of jetons in front of him, only just seen them as found a better quality clip to watch. I'd hazard a guess at either a 5/- or a 10/- or possibly a red £1 far right of the 2. They are also seen just beforehand but they are right next to his elbow and on top of each other. Anybody bored and can verify or dismiss? Thanks all.

    Well spotted, sir, but could they have made a mistake and put roulette chips down by mistake?

    And--wait a minute--is that two whole stacks of roulette chips earlier in the scene?!

    Put me down for a set or more, sir!

    They most certainly look like £1 jetons.

    I have a set of jetons and must say they do look good with the plaques. -{

    Had a better look and it's the chap next to Bond's hand (cigarette), so maybe they were later as I thought.
    Hope all is well, have fun.

    They certainly do compliment the plaques as same design and look, thanks for the "confirmation."
    Hope all is well.

    Hi Garin
    Loving this thread and your sharp eyes and keenness to add new information is to be commended.
    All the best.

    Garin is spot on with his observations and the fact that he has everything from the Mills garage sale to compare against the film stills is the best endorsement any of us can hope to get on these given the passage of time.

    I already have my set of jetons to accompany my plaques.

    Thanks qbvi, I know it seems like I'm going on a bit but it amazes me that there are still things to be "found" in the clip and I like to share. Hope all is well, have fun and keep enjoying the "stuff" you have.

    I watched those clips many times but never saw what you saw....just goes to show how much easier to ID when you have the originals in your hands.
    Astounded what you have added to our knowledge of the Bond universe. All of us on this forum especially those whom you have helped owe you enormous gratitude...you certainly have mine -{

    Can anyone get a better look/opinion of my photo, just after we see Trench, where it looks like a stack of chips?

    I know that when Le Cercle opened it was known for the kidney shaped Baccarat tables and French roulette but I thought that the "proper" roulette tables (American roulette as we call it in the business over here) were a later addition. Just the fact that the jetons are there means that there must have been (or it was implied at least) another room as I can't see any roulette tables in the Dr No clip. I've been told that they only showed Baccarat as that was Fleming's favourite game plus it made the room quieter. I have photos (slightly later I assume) of the gaming floor that show the 3 ARs and 3 Blackjack tables so maybe that was the other room. When we went to Les A and saw the room as it is now though the space didn't look big enough although it had been remodeled a few times since so.........

    There is also a photo with the Hilton being built which would have been about 1963 which would make sense.
    Thanks both for the help and whilst it would be nice if they were AR chips, they look like fingers and an ashtray to me. I have a later ashtray and PB shoe (not Caro) but not that much later I think.

    That is much better, thank you!

    Looked like a stack of chips but I think, like DrNo, it's an ashtray.

    Thanks!

    Slight tangent...........
    I don't suppose anybody has the Vogue magazine from August 1st 1962, do they?
    Has an article on Le Cercle (one page). Found one on ebay but would rather just find the article.
    Thanks in advance.

    Managed to find out that the Bond style plaques were produced in April 1961 and the later ones not until March 1978 which is what we thought, still nice to get it confirmed though.

    It's interesting, I think, to see what looks like some variance in the sizes of the plaques onscreen, meaning variances within a denomination of plaque (non-uniform plaque sizes).

    There are a few "lower" priced £100s on ebay now if anybody would care to take a look. Easy to find.............
    A chance to own a piece of history and you never know, maybe one day the list of the ones sent to the film studio will surface.

    Wow, Bondcollectibles are selling a £1 jeton on ebay (as rare) and it's at $224 at the moment!!!
    And there's me been giving them away as gifts when a plaque set bought, boy am I stupid!!?
    I'm happy somebody is making a profit as I've tried to leave something "on the bone" but not sure I agree on the marketing although it may be because I'm obviously doing it wrong. I'd rather be as honest as I can.
    I suppose he may not know there are many so it isn't that rare (I sell the full set for £60) but...............
    Hope it's nobody on here bidding on it though.

    Seems he did the same thing with a £10 plaque too, screen used AND seen! Hmm.
    He's just bought another set from me which he'll do the same thing with.
    Making a profit is all good and well (and I have no problem with that) but the description isn't actually honest or is it just me.
    A reputable dealer but still..................

    Yeah, some of these very well could have been SCREEN USED AND SEEN but it would definitely be misleading to say these were on the table when Sean Connery said that iconic line for the first time.

    A bit like when another chap had taken grains of sand from the Palymra Villa and said they were screen used from Thunderball! 8-)

  • DrNoPlaquesDrNoPlaques SwabyPosts: 242MI6 Agent
    It is indeed possible that they were screen seen but it is misleading to say that they were as nobody knows which were actually used, as you say. They are all screen used as they are exactly the same and were made at the same time as the ones that would have been used. There were 1000 made in 1961 incidentally.
    The Thunderball analogy is a good example but again, they COULD have been used.....haha.
    Thanks for the comment

    I watched a seller dig up sand at several spots on one of our Bond tours--not knowing it was meant for resale. They are indeed authentic sand samples from those locations. I don't remember "screen used" verbage in their listings, but others have since followed suit--although not during my tours.

    I have marble, shells and more, taken by permission from Palmyra, but I'm not sure they were seen on screen. :)

    Came across this image, if I am not mistaken, they are £1,000 Le Cercle plaques on the table?
