The pre-fight dialog between Grant and Bond is superb. Perfectly blocked and acted.

I have to disagree on this.
Imo it‘s worse than I remember and not really convincing.

Bond „breaking down“ is a bit cartoonish and why is Grant telling all this.
Just shoot the bastid and get done

I agree with Gymkata and you belive Dalton is a cries, what more nees to be said? :D

    Day for night shooting

The daylight action scenes that follow here open up the film visually after the claustrophobia of the train stuff and the 'night-time' exteriors
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.

Bond and helicopter behaving like Cary Grant and plane in "North By Northwest"

Music- “Death Of Dr No” Yes, really. Hunt put a brief excerpt from the previous film’s music in here (the shooting overran, Barry was already working on his next movie)

    Bond forgot his hat

And where did that captain hat come up?

"One Of Our Aircraft Is Missing" was a film, years earlier.

After watching the helicopter scnene I wonder how Hitchcock wouldhave made FRWL. I think it wouldn't be too far from this version.

Gotell is sinister in this Kronsteen death scene. (Makes me cringe to remember his last appearance in the franchise at the end of TLD.)

    Yes, he was under-used.

I'm inclined to give 'Marnie' a spin after this, to see how he used Connery in a very different part.

The boat chase isn't in the book, it was added to "open the film up"

You should. Connery looks great in Marnie and he plays a complex character.

'Death of Dr No' is really quite effective against this dangerous stunt work on the flaming boats.

Bond's "Don't go away!" - as much for the audience's benefit, as Tania's

Lotte Lenya superb. Syd Cain's set evokes the Fleming setting for this scene.

Then try "Woman Of Straw"- not a good film, but Connery looks soooo Bond.

Syd Cain under-rated, very overshadowed by Ken Adam

Matt Monro relegated to end titles. Terence Young's play on 'we're being filmed' is sub-Hitchcockian

Bond's last line made incomprehensible by a censor cut earlier (Grant referred to the contents of the film)

There it goes... arguably the best Bond film!

Thanks. Now we have seen possibly the best Connery Bond. I suggest we watch one of the ….. least good next: DAF.
