An awful mis-step for Moore's Bond - brutalising Andrea. He seems hardly more sympathetic than Scaramanga in his treatment of her. Is Scaramanga the dark side of Bond, or is Bond the lighter side of Scaramanga?
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.
Christopher Lee often spoke of being heavily involved in special forces in WWII, but as far as I understand we only have his word for it.
His claims are questionable.

It's in the nature of things that such claims aren't provable. He did only hint at it.
Ted Moore, cinematographer of previous Bonds, had to be replaced with Oscar-winner Ossie Morris at very short notice. (Stories vary as to why) Nevertheless, this is one of the most beautifully photographed Bond movies.
Maud Adams is also very different in TMWTGG and OP. Her character in OP is much warmer and confident. Shows her skill as an actress.
Agreed. And by playing Andrea's victimisation so sympathetically here she almost subverts the film by making Bond seem unsympathetic. She subsequently said she wished she'd played Andrea differently, as a tougher character.

I don't remeber the energy crisis, but there is a very well known photo of king Olav V taking the tram out of Oslo to go skiing. He paid his own ticket and had no bodyguard.

He seems more generally peeved and ruthless here.
