The skiing with Elektra I think is meant to recall memories of Tracy, to underline how Bond is falling in love with Elektra and inform later scenes.

Strong 'fan service' in all the echoes of OHMSS.
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.

Sophie Marceau gives the best acting performance of any 'Bond girl' in the entire series imho (even though, technically speaking, the 'Bond girl' role in this film properly belongs more to Denise Richards).

The Queen Of The Bond Baddies, she has established herself as a Wrier and Director as well as an actress. The way she develops Electra through the scenes is nicely done.

The parahawks are odd looking vehicles!

The way the parahawks suddenly appear in formation is cool (reminds me of the helicopters' appearance to take on Little Nellie in YOLT).

I won't disagree with this. She's very solid in a role that's actually fairly well written with strong motivations behind it.

Apparently Mrs Apted worked on strengthening the female roles

Machine that goes dazzle.. Bonds illumination watch.

I still have the Casio one from a couple of years later.

Man, what Martin Campbell could have done with this parahawk sequence. As it is, the shots of the Beemer driving earlier had more oomph.

heck, even John Glen could have made this work. His skiing scenes in FYEO were excellent.

Glen outsourced the skiing scenes to Willy Bogner ;)

And then she got to Christmas Jones and said, 'nah...I'm good.'

    :)) :)) :))

I think this action sequence does the job more than adequately. It's good, and nicely plotted, albeit overshadowed by the boat chase.

Elektra's panic attack at the end of it is a powerful choice.

Without knocking either Campbell or Glen, I think what is here is fine.

Gabor doesn't make much of an impression as a henchman.

The Bond/Elektra exchanges here channel Bond's key scene with Octopussy - a little.

The set, by Peter Lamont, calls back to Syd Cain's style.

Robbie Coltrane- great Bond friend figure (slightly fuller than most)

Machine that goes peek a blue... Bonds X ray specs...

That plastic costuming for the x Ray shots must have been uncomfortable for the extras....

Robbie Coltrane... Bond comedy done by a master of the trade. :007)

Fantastic introduction to Renard. It was correct to cut his earlier scene.

The costumes look just as amazing in person... a Bond trait few other films match. The House Of Eon always got that right.

Reynard is an interesting character, but is lacking. Bobby Carlyle maintains a certain twisted menace to the character, it highlights his emoting.

Davidov seems to be a pitiably hapless character... first given the scolding rock treatment, then shot to death by Bond not long afterwards. He just looks like a normal guy, and isn't ever seen to have done anything particularly 'evil'.
