Sometimes in Bond, You see a location and think “There is no way THAT is real.”
Then You get a massive shock when You find it IS real. The mountaintop Monastery
is one of those for Me. Amazing location.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

I like the opening bars of Conti's 'St Cyril's Monastery'... atmospheric and Bondian.

Topol is awesome in this, but I have to wonder if they approached Anthony Quinn for this role. Imagine how good he would have been...

I've never thought about that, but you've got it. The right man.

The mountaintop hideout is another element which harks back to the old fashioned Alistair Maclean type of adventure-thriller.

Bill Conti's score here is particularly effective.

With no offence whatsoever to the great Topol.

Didn’t. Rick Sylvester Of TSWLM parachute opening do this high climbing stuff?
    Brave man. Insane, but brave.

Quinn would be more age appropriate for the WWII backstory. And a fine performer too.

    Epic music by Conti.

He‘s much better than the usual criticism of disco and funk riffs.

A scene from the Alan Ladd and Sophia Loren movie, Boy on a Dolphin, was also filmed on Meteora.

The climbing sequence isn't typical of climactic Bond spectacle but the whole thing is so skilfully plotted and executed that it entertains.

I probably appreciate this a lot more now than when I was a teenager, when I was disappointed that this wasn't another TSWLM/MR style climax

There are many wonderfully tense scenes in FYEO, including the climb. But the way the guard is killed is silly. You can't use those things as throwing knives. Bodn should have thrown the hammer isstead.

I have some skilled mountaineers in my family...they know the prusik-knot technique that Bond employs, but doubt that a bootlace would do the job.

I like Brink... she is set up as a Klebb or Bunt Type, but it’s clear by now she isn’t.

The fuss everyone seems to make about the one enemy guard wounded by Melina's bolt. Such a contrast to other Bond film climaxes where dozens of boiler suited Pinewood enemy personnel are gunned down and blown up without a second thought...

It's too early for them to have seen the Austin Powers riff on that!

Bond's fight with Kriegler has all the classic trademarks of a Bob Simmons-arranged fight.
