Video Review- New Ties in The Turnbull & Asser James Bond Collection

Well the day has arrived! After 19 months, and with the support and help of members of this forum, the new Brosnan-era ties are launched at Turnbull & Asser!

I get access to the new pieces featuring in the Turnbull & Asser James Bond Collection. I had a small part to play in bringing 3 new James Bond ties, all fan-favourites, to the collection. Jermyn Street Store Manager and Bond aficionado, James Cook, talks us through how it all came about. Classic Connery shirts have been made more screen-accurate, and the materials used for the Brosnan-era shirts have FINALLY been identified!

I hope that you all enjoy it, and approve of my homage to Skyfall and GoldenEye in the Pre-Titles Section!

Blair

Excellent video, loved the intro and very well put together.
Thanks also for your work behind the scenes in making this happen.

Would really love to order a shirt or two and a tie or two now...
But haven’t worn a shirt and tie for a year or so now and would look out of place doing so where I live now. :#

Welp, I got an e-mail a few minutes ago from T&A and what can I say besides how THRILLED I am these are out. A complete surprise, yet most welcome. Now with lockdown looming over our collective heads (already in effect for many of you) and the Tom Ford QoS project still pending, this isn't the best of timetables for me, but I just HAVE to scrounge the funds for this. We'll see how I manage.

Will watch the video with utmost attention. Great work, Blair!!

Well done Blair! Can’t wait to obtain some of these.

Are there still plans for a phase 2 with more ties?

I had the original and apart from the lining, which was blue in 97’, they nailed it 100%. Personally I prefer the use of the main material as liner. Very classy. But be careful, I remember this weave pulling very easily.

The cuff on the Connery shirt is something I’ve been hassling them about for years.

Blair, the camerwork on these videos grows by leaps and bounds! Very fluid and dynamic, and makes these videos really pop. Well done.

Side note - Turnbull & Asser have the Dr No shirt listed on their front page for much less than once you click?

Looks like they accidentally listed the GBP price. It’s £225 here.

The video sheds a lot of light on the fabrics chosen too. I don’t think anyone thought the TND and TWINE shirt were the same blue (or even the same weave).

Excellent video Blair. I would have to start saving if they make the TWINE blue shirt. Fabric 6041?

Is the cuff on the left their new shirt, or is it one they made in bespoke for you? As far as I can tell from it laying flat, it looks just about perfect.

You should have read my blog!

But great work on James Cook to uncover the actual numbers of these!

Yes, Steve- the TWINE French Blue Royal Oxford has the fabric code 6041 and has a 3 button cuff and the No.3 Collar. Mine's being made as I type. The factory's still open during our 2nd lockdown, due to start on Thursday, so I should be able to pick it up, along with the cream Brosnan TND shirt that Brosnan wears with the Hamburg Tie, when the store reopens in early December. So keep an eye out for the second part of the film....

Thanks, Matt! That means an awful lot coming from the Maestro himself! The photo is of the actual shirt in the collection. but it is the same Connery cocktail cuff that I stipulated on your recommendation with my bespoke order from 2 years ago. They really listened to us all!

That’s the new cuff, which is 100% the same as they made for me for my bespoke shirts. Which as far as I know is about as accurate as it’s possible for them to get. I can’t open it flat as a I bought it for a friend for Christmas.

Do you know if the collar with that shirt is a standard Number 3 or if it was raised up 1/8"? From what I can tell in the film, it looks like it's their slightly higher version. Most of Brosnan's collars are slightly raised versions of the standard collars. Though the TWINE collar is based on a design that was originally a higher two-button collar from someone who used to work in the New York store.

Was the fabric code for the white shirt in TWINE also identified? (the one he wears in Baku)
  • The Bond VivantThe Bond Vivant SeendPosts: 1,347MI6 Agent
It was raised in the film for Brosnan, but I was advised not to go down that route, and to stick with the standard height No.3. But a good spot from you, once again!

What a fantastic video Blair, well done!

Please can you let me know if these 3 new Bond ties are part of T&A permanent collection, or are the 3 ties limited editions?

    Thanks for you help.

It all depends on how these ties sell. I'm confident that they will fly off the shelves...

    Fantastic video Blair!

My original Rubyeon DAD tie was safely couriered back to me today - delighted that it could play a small part in this story. T&A look to have recreated it perfectly.

    I'm also confident these will fly off the shelves. -{

I love how this whole story developed and took on its own life. Much like Mr. Zaritsky's motion to get TF do another run of polos by providing his. Sadly, the cost for these items exceed the limits of which I can reach considering I work from home now and can wear something or nothing. :007) I look forward to your next video, Blair.

Matt, do you know why they wouldn't even do it bespoke back then? I thought that was the whole point!
