Levis Menlo Care

A while ago I decided to stop being precious with my Menlo and to wear it with abandon. As a result it's looking in need of a cleaning/conditioning. To anyone who has reconditioned their Menlo: Have any tips? Warnings?

Yeah. Don’t. Due to how it’s artificially aged, there’s not much you can do for it. Dry cleaning is a lottery, they’ll either do an OK job or ruin it. It’s one of the downsides of that particular finish and the same with genuine vintage jackets. Whatever you do, it’ll never really be the same.

What's happened to it? I must say I rarely wear mine because it does feel a bit fragile: that ageing effect feels like it'll come off and just turn it into a suede jacket half the time!

I tend to prefer to bash around in my other leather jackets which I know will actually end up looking better for having more wear.

It’s a fashion jacket. Not really made to wear and abuse like most leather jackets are. It’s longevity in the field won’t be great.

Yes, that's why it feels fragile.

It's fine. It basically /looks/ like it always has. I just know there's years of debris (dust, dirt, etc) in there I'd like to brush out. But mostly I want to moisturize/condition it so it doesn't dry out. That said, I think the jacket is a little more durable than it's getting credit for here. It's still leather at the end of the day. Certainly not falling apart on me after four years of consistent, outdoor use.

I lusted after the Menlo for years and eventually picked up a great example in size small. It fits great but in reality I’ve hardly worn it and am now thinking about selling it and getting a Belstaff leather jacket. Sometimes the chase is the game.

I sold mine as the M was v snug, and it had a kinda green tinge rather than brown.
Tried a L but too big.
Been searching for a M or L (depending on year but want an actual 42-43 chest measurement) with no luck ...

Did notice the one just popped up on US eBay
$2500!!!! Really .....

Ah that's fair enough, glad to hear it's still holding together well. I guess you could possibly try contacting LVC to see if they have any care advice, but I guess the design is so old now it's probably a long shot.

Always makes me laugh, nwt, especially when it's a tie tag.... But hey, sure it's never been worn.
