Michael Caine's brother Stanley who had a short-lived acting career

I was reading about Michael Caine on IMDB this week and I remembered he had worked in TV roles in his early years, including a few parts in Dixon of Dock Green. I also read about his brother Stanley who appeared alongside him in a few films including The Italian Job, for some reason Stanley's acting career came to end after The Italian Job and I am surprised he had difficulty finding roles. His life after seemed like a real contrast to his brother Michael/Maurice and he want back to work in Selfridge's furniture department.

Considering Stanley's famous brother it seems a real shame his own acting career never took on.

Ah, yes. Until I read your post, Matt79, I'd totally forgotten the fact that Michael's brother Stanley Caine had a brief role at the beginning of Billion Dollar Brain as a postal delivery man. It is indeed a shame his career never took off but he was probably just overshadowed by his much more famous movie star brother.

I know what you mean about Stanley's career being overshadowed by his brother, but I was still surprise dhe didn't get more acting roles.

I have also noticed that since Michael Caine became famous for film roles he had no more TV work, apart from a Jack The Ripper TV movie in the late 80s (that gave a totally unbeliveable theory). I wonder if film actors such as Michael Caine and Sean Connery were too expensive for TV producers to hire, or whether they just wanted to stay in films

I read at the time that Sean Connery was offered the part in "Friends" that was eventually played by Tom Selleck but turned it down saying that he didn't do TV.

That's interesting, I didn't know that. Yeah he was still massive at that time so it's no wonder he didn't do it.
