"I'm watching" Suicide squad" on TV, a movie a about The Shetland Gang with mostly real SOE agents playing. themselves. It's a lot like the boat part of Guns of Navarone!

Perhaps after Where Eagles Dare and Force 10, we should continue the Alistair Maclean theme with Ice Station Zebra?

I watched When Eight Bells Toll yesterday (which is available on YouTube) which very much has a sort of alternate Bond feel, with Anthony Hopkins in the lead. It's not amazing (certainly no Eagles Dare) but pretty decent fun for a Sunday afternoon.

Haven't seen it for years- I'll have to watch it again.

It's been many years since I've seen 'When Eight Bells Toll' and it would be fun to do a watchalong of a young Anthony Hopkins playing an action man.

I've been stocking up, a bit, on my Maclean reading.
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.

Is there an 80's version of this? "Raiders of the lost ring" , perhaps? :D

Shatner as Sam? Didn't see that one coming.

I still say John Hurt for Legolas. Don't think of the older man, think of how he looked in the 60s.

Quinn for Gimli is a masterstroke. Perfect choice!

    Legolas - Jonny Depp
Aragorn - Daniel Day Lewis or Liam Neeson
    Galadriel - Michelle Pfeiffer
    Boromir - Ruther Hauer
    Gimli - Kurt Russel
    Arwen - Emmanuelle Beart
    Gollum - Ben Kingley
Grima Wormtongue - Joe Pesci or Christopher Walken
    Faramir - Kevin Costner

That would be fun too, but mostly fun and almost certainly not good. I think my version could potentially be pretty good.
I would really like to see Kurt Russel's Gimli and especially Jonny Depp's Legolas :D
