Six Degrees Of Sean Connery

BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 37,856Chief of Staff

Inspired by a discussion that Number24 and I were having in another thread.

I name an actor. You have to get to Sean Connery in six (or less) moves by naming a film the two actors have appeared in together.

Example:

I say Robin Williams.

You say Robert de Niro (They were in a movie called "Awakenings").

Robert de Niro was in "The Untouchables" with Sean Connery.

You win, and now have to name another actor.

Okay?

I say Will Ferrell.

Will Ferrell was Mustafa in Austin Powers where Michael York was Number Two. York was in Murder on the Orient Express (1964) with Sean Connery.

    I say Steven Seagal,

  • The Domino EffectThe Domino Effect Posts: 3,638MI6 Agent

Steven Seagal was in On Deadly Ground with Michael Caine. Michael Caine was in The Man Who Would be King with a certain Sean Connery,

    .

    I say Ronnie Corbett.

  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,331MI6 Agent

I don't know who Ronnie Corbett is. Let me try .....

  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,331MI6 Agent

Corbett was in CR 67 with Ursula Andress DN with Connery.

We have to make this more difficult.

    I say .... Wenche Foss

  • caractacus pottscaractacus potts Orbital communicator, level 10Posts: 4,108MI6 Agent

Ronnie Corbett amongst other achievements was the Lower Class who knows 'is place in this classic prePython John Cleese sketch!

....and Cleese was in Time Bandits which also featured.... Sean Connery!

I know the moves past and I'm not playing, I just thought since Number24 said he didnt know who Corbett was that was good excuse to watch the Class Sketch

  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 37,856Chief of Staff

I've never heard of Wenche Foss, sorry.

That's part of what makes it difficult, and since we've solved the others in three steps we need them to be harder. Foss can may be be compared to Julie Andrews around here. I didn't think of how she could be linked to Connery when I posted her name, but think the best bet is "I am Dina" (2002). Among her co-stars were Gerard Depardiu and Christopher Eccleston. Can anyone take it from there?

  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 37,856Chief of Staff

Gerard Depardieu was in "1900" with Robert de Niro, who was in "The Untouchables" with Sean Connery.

Go again, TwoFour, but make it just a shade easier please!

  • The Domino EffectThe Domino Effect Posts: 3,638MI6 Agent

    How about...

Wenche Foss starred in "I am Dina" with Mads Mikkelson. Mikkelson was in CR as was Diane Hartson (one of the poker players in the Ocean Club scene) who was also appeared in Thunderball with... Sean Connery.

  • The Domino EffectThe Domino Effect Posts: 3,638MI6 Agent

(Thanks for the "I am Dina" hint, N24. I'm not sure I could have figured out a link otherwise. The route I was thinking involved her and Lotte Lenya appearing in something together, perhaps on stage, or not at all!).

  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,331MI6 Agent

We should make it easier, but just a little bit.

I have a better known name: Charlie Chaplin.

  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,331MI6 Agent

Question; I it allowed to use IMDB or tools like that? If it's not I've never used IMDB on this thread .... 😏

I think we all guessed that when you said you never heard of Ronnie Corbett but somehow knew the answer anyway!

whereas I think Corbett's the only one so far I have heard of, I wont be very good at this game.

Chaplin's an interesting challenge. He only made one film in the 1960s: Countess of Hong Kong, and for some reason I did recently look up a 1960s actor's appearances and ended up unexpectedly with that film. but cant remember who that was. I shall resist the urge to look up the wikipedia entry.

But it could be someone who worked with Chaplin in the silent film days and was still alive in Connery's day. did Sean Connery ever make a film with Jackie Coogan?

  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,331MI6 Agent

I can neither confirm nor deny having used IMDB before it's been settled if we can use it.

I confess to having used "Information or Mentally Deranged Bondites" to learn more about "I am Dina", but the rest came from my sheer natural brilliance! 😎

  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 37,856Chief of Staff

Chaplin directed and played a cameo in "Countess From Hong Kong", which starred Marlon Brando. Brando starred in "The Godfather" with James Caan, who was in "A Bridge Too Far" with.... Sean Connery.

    Basil Rathbone.

  • The Domino EffectThe Domino Effect Posts: 3,638MI6 Agent

Basil Rathbone starred in The Comedy of Terrors with Peter Lorre. Lorre played Le Chiffre in the 1954 television adaptation of the little-known novel Casino Royale by a now-forgotten author named Ian Fleming who once bumped into Sean Connery on the set of Dr. No.

    James Dean.

  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 37,856Chief of Staff

James Dean was in Giant with Elizabeth Taylor, who was in several films with her on/off husband Richard Burton who was in The Longest Day with... Sean Connery.

    Elvis Presley.

  • Napoleon PluralNapoleon Plural LondonPosts: 10,467MI6 Agent

Elvis is a good one because he seemed so insular, despite all the movies he did.

I'd say he was in Viva Las Vegas with Angie Dickinson, who was in Ocean's 11 with Sinatra and the Rat Pack including Sammy Davis Jr, who was edited out of Diamonds Are Forever's Vegas scenes.

But if anyone else wants a go on the Elvis link or just suggest another name to link, be my guest.

"This is where we leave you Mr Bond."

    Roger Moore 1927-2017

did Elvis ever record with John Barry? its a @Barbel question, so the answer may be musical rather than movies

I bet we could connect via Ann Margret but not within two handshakes, maybe three or four. She was in a Matt Helm movie.

Elvis Presley starred with Paul Brineger in Charro who was in the Rawhide TV series with Clint Eastwood who starred with Donald Sutherland in Space Cowboys who starred with Bernard Lee in Dr Terror’s House Of Horrors who was M to Sean Connery.

    L Q Jones.

Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.
  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 37,856Chief of Staff

    CHB, well done!

Angie Dickinson wasn't in "Viva Las Vegas" (unless she had an unbilled cameo I've never noticed), that was Ann-Margret.

And no, Elvis never recorded with John Barry or even sang one of his songs.

  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,948MI6 Agent

L Q Jones was in the Mask of Zorro with Catherine Zeta Jones who was in Entrapment with Sean Connery.

    Paul Hogan.

  • The Domino EffectThe Domino Effect Posts: 3,638MI6 Agent

Paul Hogan co-hosted the Oscars in 1987 at which Michael Caine won the award for Best Supporting Actor (for Jaws: The Revenge, err, I mean for Hannah and Her Sisters). Michael Caine was in A Bridge Too Far with Sean Connery.

If the Oscars doesn't count, I am happy to stand down to someone else, otherwise...

    LL Cool J

  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,331MI6 Agent

Paul Hogan is in the short film "Tourism Australia: Dundee - the son of a legend returns home" (2018) with Russel Crowe. Crowe was in L.A. Confidential with Kim Basinger who was in NSNA with Connery. I don't think TV appearances, not even the Oscars, can count. But do short films count?

  • Smithers500Smithers500 Spectre IslandPosts: 1,347MI6 Agent

    Just interrupting.

    I’ll try the Elvis one:

Elvis was in It Happened at the World’s Fair with a very young Kurt Russell, who was in Tequila Sunrise with Michelle Pfeiffer, who was in The Russia House with Sean Connery.

Japanese proverb say, "Bird never make nest in bare tree".
  • The Domino EffectThe Domino Effect Posts: 3,638MI6 Agent

I like the Elvis one, Smithers.

As for short films, I think they should count and while I can certainly understand not wanting to include the Oscars, (or "I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here" or "The House Wives of xxx"), I am more open to made-for-TV movies or even TV shows in general. For example, if someone was trying to use a guest appearance in an episode of The Saint with Roger Moore as a link to eventually reaching Seam Connery, I would have no issue with that. However, I do understand if you would rather keep it more solid and just stick to movies.

  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,331MI6 Agent

I agree. TV appearances where the actor appears as him/herself shouldn't count, but TV movies and -series are okay.

    I say Chloë Grace Moretz

  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,948MI6 Agent

Chloë Grace Moretz was in the The Equaliser with Denzel, who was in Crimson Tide with Gene Hackman, who appeared in A Bridge Too Far with... Sir Sean Connery.
