The Book Covers thread is proving popular with 1.8 k views so far, so I thought I would open a thread on movie posters. This is open for any member to post their own pictures or make any comments. I’m not an expert on this subject so there won’t be much detail but hopefully everyone will enjoy looking at some classic posters.
Today, The Man From UNCLE…
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

I hardly know where to start with movie posters, there are so many to pick from. One of the first things that came to mind was the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes series. So here is a small selection of posters that I've enjoyed from the Universal Studios Holmes films.
Good idea, CHB!
This is is the poster for the 1957 movie "Ni liv" (Nine lives") about the incredible survival story of SOE agent Jan Baalsrud.
"Kampen om tungtvannet" ("Operation Swallow: The battle for heavy water"). Most of the agents played themselves.
"Ung frue forsvunnet" (1953) ("Young madam missing")
"Mors hus" (1974) ("Mother's house". European art.
"Det største spillet" (1967) ("The greatest game") About a real life double agent during WWII.
Thanks for posting guys, those Holmes posters are really nice and it’s nice to see some foreign ones, too.
Charles Vine and Charles Bind are two secret agents not usually mentioned but the following 4 films, produced by Lindsay Shonteff, are enjoyable Bond rip-offs.
Matt Helm-
The last one strictly doesn't count, being for the TV series.
Excellent idea @CoolHandBond I'm already in love with this thread!😁
Force 10 From Navarone is one of my favourite film posters;
The lobby cards are also pretty cool;
Brian Bysouth, Frank McCarthy and Robert McGinnis are just unbeatable IMO (but I know I'm preaching to the converted here😁);
Hey, Red Kind
That one seems sort of familiar, somehow....
Thank you @Barbel and @The Red Kind for your contributions…fantastic!!!
Posters for the Flint and Palmer movies are below…
Bullet to Beijing and Midnight in St Petersburg @CoolHandBond don't make the cut then..?!😄 @CoolHandBond. I agree with you. Disappointing films and posters.
One of the poster artists whose work I particularly enjoy is Richard Amsel. His Raiders of the Lost Ark posters were my introduction, but I've gone on to discover plenty more that I really love.
As a segue from Michael Caine to another of my favourite actors Donald Sutherland. I love both these films;
Oh, and as a side, Jenny Agutter and Kate Nelligan..😍
Nice posters @Golrush007 The Shootist is one of my favourite movies.
@The Red Kind Sutherland is a fabulous actor - great posters!

Back in the good old days of the 60’s and 70’s cinemas would hold double bills of 2 great movies - what value for an evening out! Some
The Magnificent Seven is my favourite film of all time so here is the poster…
It was followed by a sequel 6 years later, although 10 years of time had passed in the film’s story…Yul Brynner returned as Chris, the leader, with Robert Fuller taking on Steve McQueen’s role and an unknown in Horst Buchholz’s character. Warren Oates and Claude Akins make up two of the new members of the seven. On its own it’s a decent movie, compared to the first one, it’s weak.
Two more sequels appeared with George Kennedy and Lee Van Cleef taking on the Chris role…these are best forgotten.
I’m not sure how the Harry O book cover got onto this post but please ignore it as I can’t remove it from my iPad and I haven’t the time to go onto the laptop to do it!!!
There's some very odd pairings on those double-bills. The Elvis Presley one isn't as odd as it appears as, when initially planned, Blue Hawaii was envisaged as a sequel to G.I. Blues, with the King portraying the same character in his post army days - original title Beach Boy Blues. I sometimes wonder if 1966's Paradise, Hawaiian Style was meant to complete an unofficial trilogy as his job role is so similar to that in Blue Hawaii.
Although the songs in PHS are so much weaker than those in the other two movies!
😄😄😄 A Dog's Life ? You betcha !
Peter Fonda starred in a string of violent action movies, often with the brilliant Warren Oates, and these posters are really good in attracting audiences into the cinema…
Clint Eastwood was the world’s biggest box office attraction for many years, great films, great posters…
You don't have to be an expert in Freud to know what they're trying to sell in that THUNDERBOLT AND LIGHTFOOT poster. . .
I don't know what you mean...?😉
The Matt Helm posters didn't go for subtlety, either.
I’m a big fan of 1950’s horror and sci-fi movies. Here is a selection of great posters…
Love those movies! I've got most of them on DVD. I see the last one starred Steven McQueen 😁
Hanover Street. An often overlooked war film, but I think it's alright;
Pre-revolutionary posters showing traditional Russian values! 😁
Being married by the satan (1917)
The Abyss
The mysterious murder in Petrograd
Did these Soviet movie posters leave the West behind?
Is the capitalism and free speech of the West stronger?
